Today’s event is the concluding part to the

BSAK 7’s

series with both netball and Rugby having been played last November. I am delighted to see that there are a large number of teams in all age groups and I am sure this will mean a fiercely contested competition.

Every team who has entered will try their best to be crowned champions, but only one will be successful in their age category. However, every team can demonstrate a positive attitude, warm camaraderie and an appreciation of opponents who try equally as hard to secure victory. It is these qualities that stand out far more than the victories and defeats that will inevitably happen throughout this amazing tournament.

To all those competing, have a wonderful tournament and please remember to not only thank the officials ensuring the games can run, but also yout teachers who have put in hours of work to make sure you are as best prepared as possible. Enjoy every minute.

After enjoying the wonderful rugby and netball tournaments, we now move to football. We will see both the boys and girls competition take place simultaneously involving our highest ever number of competing

The football tournament is the final event in the series of three sports with all schools competing to become overall BSAK Tri-Series champions. There are three schools in contention after November event to become champions this year: JESS, DC and DESC, the latter who are reigning Tri-Series champions.

The November edition of the tournament was a very special moment for myself, seeing so many students, parents and staff coming together in the right spirit to bring sport back to our community.

I hope today can be played with the same enthusiasm, honest work ethic and sporting professionalism from all players.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE SPORT RESPECT EVERYONE

BSAK 7s Series is a friendly Schools tournament and a celebration of sport and sportsmanship.

Win, lose or draw all players and coaches are expected to respect the opposition, the officials, tournament organisers and the rules.

COMPETE FAIRLY

Competing teams should look after each other and avoid causing injury to one another. No one likes getting hurt while playing sports.

SUPPORTERS

Parents, guardians and friends are thanked for their support and reminded that any encouragement on the side-lines should always be calm, controlled and positive.

WATCH THE CLOCK

Timing is the key to running this event, together we can make the day run on time. Being late for matches is not good team etiquette.

The rules are not just our rules – they are from National Governing Bodies of sport. If you are not sure of them, please read them.

HOW TO OFFICIALLY ENQUIRE ABOUT YEAR GROUP AGE

Opposing coaches can make an official enquiry with the Tournament Directors to clarify a player’s age. An investigation into the alleged over aged player will ensue. If found playing over aged players, the school will forfeit the match in question, losing 3-0 and that player will be removed from the Tournament.

MATCH OFFICIALS

If any player speaks to a referee in a tone or language that is unacceptable, the Referee has the right to tell the coach to replace that player. A high standard of respect must be maintained throughout the tournament. The Referee’s decision on the field of play is final. The Tournament Directors are available if there are concerns to raise. Where possible independent Referees will officiate games. These are BSAK teachers and from PASS.

There are three parking areas. Please park with consideration for other drivers and to allow the maximum number of cars to park. Signs will direct you to the Football Tournament parking.

FIXTURE TIMINGS

Teams must check in with the Pitch Marshall at least 15 minutes before the fixture. Referees will try and start and finish each match on the central timing bell. The Referee’s whistle is the signal for the start of the game, not the central timing bell.

Pitch Marshals will manage time-keeping.

If a game is stopped for a serious injury, the time will continue to run. Should the game not be able to be played due to treatment, the score at the time of the injury will be officially recorded. If teams turn up late, they will forfeit the game and the score recorded as 1-0.

GAME TIME- GROUP GAMES/SEMIS/FINALS

Each game will last for 12 minutes one way with only 3 minutes before the next game – please complete team talks off the pitch.

If the scores are level in the semi-finals or final at full time, there will be no extra-time . The game will go straight to a penalty shoot-out. If there is no winner after 3 penalties, it will go to sudden death.

PROGRESSION THROUGH THE TOURNAMENT

In the event of a tie in the Pool games, positions will be calculated in the following order according to: the result of the head to head, goal difference, goals for, goals against. If there is still no difference, a sudden death penalty shootout will be held.

All teams will progress out of the Pool groups to the next stage of the competition. Plate and Cup competitions will be knock out rounds.

TOURNAMENT

PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT AWARDS

Referees will be asked to nominate a standout player after each game for the Player of the Tournament Award.

SOCIAL MEDIA

BSAK has no control over spectators taking photographs or videos or where they are shared on any social media.

There will be a variety of food and refreshment options available.

HOW TO DEAL WITH AN INJURY TO A PLAYER

If you think that your player has a suspected serious injury please contact the closest Pitch Marshal who will notify the Emergency Response Team.

FOR A MINOR INJURY, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

• Make initial assessment pitch side – Note a runner can collect ice from the First Aid Tent.

• If additional medical assistance is required call for the designated First Aider for your area.

• If you feel the injury requires medical attention, please visit the Nurses.

• If any students, from other schools, require medication (paracetamol or ibuprofen) they need to be accompanied by their coach/parent for consent.

ICE FOR INJURIES

Cool boxes containing ice and plastic bags will be close to each pitch. Please help yourself but also use appropriately. Thank you.

PLEASE NOTE

Nearest Hospital to Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium is NMC Royal Hospital, Khalifa City A, 16th Street Abu Dhabi.

If a player is taken in an Ambulance the Paramedics will confirm which hospital they are going to.

The British School Al Khubairat is not liable for any medical costs caused due to the event, all students and staff must have private medical insurance. The lead staff must have the appropriate funds available to pay for any treatment or deposits.

WATER FOR TEAMS ALL

Players will need to bring a refillable water bottle. Large water bottles will be available for players to fill their water bottles.

RULES FOOTBALL

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Each game will last for 12 minutes one way with only 3 minutes before the next game – please complete team talks off the pitch.

• The tournament formats are all different due to the number of teams entered. Please see specific knockout pathways for each age group.

• All rules are to be adhered to - remember it is meant to be a friendly School tournament.

THE NORMAL RULES OF FOOTBALL APPLY EXCEPT FOR NO OFFSIDE AND THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIVES:

• 7 players per team with a maximum of 12 in the squad.

• All free kicks will be direct. Opposing players must be 5 paces from the ball when defending a free kick or corner.

• Goalkeepers cannot pick up a back pass. A free kick from the balls point of entry into the box will be awarded.

• The first named team will have kick off and second team will decide which end.

• Opposing players must be 5 paces from the kick off.

• Unlimited use of substitutes applies. Substitutes are on a roll on/roll-off basis but only during a break in play and with the Referee’s permission.

• Shin pads are compulsory. Players will not be allowed on the pitch without them. Jewellery, watches and any other valuable or dangerous items must be removed.
