INFINITY AND BEYOND ENGLISH

MATHEMATICS

English this term will have both a reading and writing focus. We will be reading the texts Beegu Look Up Here We Go Chocolate Cake (poem)

This term we will be revisiting concepts taught in Term 1 as well as extending and introducing new mathematical concepts.

Our writing focus will include shape poems, letters, recounts and stories with a familiar setting. We will also continue to focus on the following skills: Forming uppercase, lowercase letters and digits 0- correctly. Hold pencil with a comfortable grip. Begin to understand which letters belong to which letter families. Use a capital for their own name. Use personal pronoun I. Compose a sentence orally before writing it. Begin to use capital letters, full stops and leave finger spaces between words. Phonics and spelling will be continuing with the Extended Code, using the Sounds Write phonics programme.

SCIENCE The Science focus this term is Materials and revising Plants. Our materials topic will include: • distinguishing between an object and the material from which it is made. • identifying and naming a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock. • describing the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials. • comparing and grouping together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties. In our revisiting of Plants, the children will build on their knowledge of garden and wild plants, recognise evergreen and deciduous trees and label the main parts of a plant and explain their functions.

ART AND DESIGN In Art this term we will be focusing on 3D sculptures and textile art. The children will learn that sculptures can be made out of many different materials and experiment with clay to make their own sculptures. During textiles the children will learn that different materials, such as fabric, wool and beads can be used to create art work. In DT the children will be following on from structures and constructing models using a variety of different materials. Enhancements will be added to the construction areas to encourage the children to combine and use different materials when building their models. They will also be introduced to sewing and will learn the correct tools used for sewing and how to join fabric together using a running stitch.


WATCH US GROW COMPUTING The children will be introduced to coding using the website code.org. They will learn simple codes and algorithms. The children will work through set challenges, using more complex code as they progress. The children will use imovie and green screen to create a video based on a country in the UK.

MUSIC To sing songs about the topic ‘Space’. learn the order of the planets through song. Listen to Holst’s Planet Suite, John Williams Star Wars. Compose own theme for the planet Mars using classroom instruments. Record and perform Space songs and compositions.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION This term, the children will be preparing for their sports day. For their PE lessons, they will be taking part in Athletics and practicing all the events that they will be doing on the day. They will experience a range of running, jumping, and throwing activities.

HUMANITIES

History this terms will focus on Significant People. The children will learn about the lives of Neil Armstrong, Mae Jemison , Tim Peake and Hazza Al Mansouri - significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Geography this term we will be learning about the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Following on from that we will be learning about the 4 countries in the United Kingdom, including their capitals cities and the seas that surrounded the UK.

Ball Games will focus on the Children’s throwing and catching skills, working as a team, and developing their ability to pass and move into space.

ARABIC (NON-NATIVE)

For swimming, the children will continue to focus on their stroke development for freestyle and backstroke.

The children will learn how to use adjectives to describe animals and will apply feminine and masculine adjectives (long, short, big, small). They will also be introduced to colours (to ask about the colour of things and use yes or no questions).

MORAL EDUCATION Year 1 will continue to work on Little Spots of Emotion and supporting the children to recognise different emotions that they may feel. Throughout all our interactions we will be looking a relationships and teach the children to treat everyone with kindness and respect
