English this term will have both a reading and writing focus. We will be reading the texts -

● There's a Rangtan in my bedroom

● The Tale of Peter Rabbit

● Where the wild things are.

Our writing focus will include letter writing, poetry and setting descriptions. We will also focus on the following skills:

Forming lowercase letters and digits 0-9. Hold pencil with a comfortable grip. Begin to understand which letters belong to which letter families. Match lower and uppercase letters. Use a capital for their own name.

Use personal pronoun I

Compose a sentence orally before writing it. Begin to use capital letters, full stops and leave finger spaces between words.

Phonics and spelling will be revisiting Phase 3 and phase 5 phonics.

MATHEMATICS

SCIENCE

The Science focus this term is Animals including humans. The children will learn to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, including pets) and finally to identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense.

Geometry & Measures

● Begin to measure length, capacity, weight

COMPUTING

This term the children will continue to work on their coding skills, creating simple programs using code.org. They will use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content including the use of seesaw, wordwall and kahoot. The children will be introduced to Book Creator and create their own book.

MORAL EDUCATION

This term the children will explore the concept of friendship, This includes the meaning of real friendship, the importance of maintaining good friendships, and the importance of tolerance and respect in friendships. In the second half term the children will learn about heritage and explore some examples of heritage in the UAE and beyond.

MUSIC

African djembe drumming, songs from west and South Africa. Reading and performing graphic musical scores using voice and classroom instruments.

HUMANITIES

This term in Geography we are building on our knowledge of the world and continents. The children will be learning about the equator and hot and cold countries on the Earth. They will learn that hot countries are found near the equator.

They will identify where the North and South Poles are located and compare and contrast them.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SWIMMING

The children will have the opportunity to develop fundamental skills related to striking and fielding and cooperative games such as throwing and catching. While swimming, the children will continue to develop their stroke proficiency and water based skills. They will also begin to develop their water safety skills, such as floating, travelling and the water safe position.

ART AND DESIGN

The children will explore collage - creating collages to be used in habitat boxes. .They will also look at and explore different printing techniques and create paintings using the skills learnt. In DT the children will be looking at animal habitats and will design and create a 3D animal habitat that includes different joins and moving parts.
