Week 10 Journal On Site (Take 2) The white wires have also been installed in the roof structure. These are used for utilities and services which run through the ceiling.

For the site visit, we returned to the Oval Pavilion to see the progress made over the past weeks. From the visit, we observed that the foundations and main steel frame structure of the building have been constructed. The timber rafters for the roof structure has also been constructed.

For the timber planks used on the side of the spectator benches of the Oval Pavilion, the material of Oregon Wood was chosen. This choice of material was made mainly for the aesthetic appeal.

It was interesting to note that the steel beams supporting the roof structure are joined onto timber columns for vertical support, instead of keeping the same steel material. This is a purely aesthetic choice, as the exposed timber would keep in theme with the overall appearance of the building interior.

The components of timber decking and metal studs were also explained. In particular, the concept of tongue and groove in the timber decking pieces was demonstrated here.

It was also interesting to see the internal structure members of the walls, and observe how the load is distributed through the vertical members into the footings.
