HELP WANTED
Question: How does one get picked by the Bowie State Sports Hall of Fame?
The BSU Sports Hall of Fame Alumni Chapter is looking for members to serve on various Committees. We have provided contact information for each Committee in the article/update provided by that Committee. So, join us as we build an exciting and fun Alumni Chapter to be associated with. All Bowie State Alumni are WELCOME!
Answer: First, it is a misconception that anyone is “picked” by the BSU Sports Hall of Fame. Every current Sports Hall of Fame (SHOF) Inductee has had to follow the same protocol. Someone must nominate them. No self-nominations are accepted. Anyone interested in nominating a former Bowie State Varsity Level Athlete for recognition by the BSU Sports Hall of Fame must complete and submit an appropriate BSU SHOF Application. As noted above in this Newsletter, are the specific applications and the names of the folks you can request a BSU SHOF Application from. Next, the application will be reviewed by the Selection & Induction Committee and the nominee may be asked for an in-person interview. After that, the nominee may be recommended by the Committee to be recognized by the SHOF for an award. Finally, the nominee will be contacted by a Committee Member about their selection. That’s the process. Question: Is anyone counting the number of Endowments and there worth either being started or exist by Bowie State Alumni or Alumni Groups? Answer: You know, that’s a good question. We don’t have any idea. We know that several individuals and groups have established a few Endowments within the past 5 years. We will try to get the answer by our next publication in October 2021. Thanks.

I RANT the other day i attended an event at which someone starting speaking about the bowie state sports hall of fame, which i’m a member. i didn’t think much about it at the time, until they mentioned that people are “picked” by someone to be recognized by the hall of fame for an award. they, had to be “picked” by someone, it what got my goat! well, at that moment, my hair was on fire because it was clear that the person speaking didn’t know what they were talking about. just for the record, no-one is “picked” by anyone to be recognized by the hall of fame. the bsu sports hall of fame has a rigorous selection process. ask any current bsu sports hall of famer how grueling the process was. the bsu sports hall of fame has a process by which selections for recognitions are awarded. if you don’t know how it works, ask somebody! btw, they never defined who the person was that “picked” people for the bsu sports hall of fame. This feature of our Newsletter was adopted from the hit TV show Big Bang Theory. At the end of each show, flashes a commentary or rant, we like to call it, that someone has provided. If you would like to submit your commentary or rant, please provide it to the Newsletter Committee. It is at the sole discretion of the Newsletter Committee which, if any, commentaries or rants are published. We will not publish crude, rude, racist, foul and/or inappropriate language.
