System overview
The Predator, a 300m depth-rated inspection class ROV has been developed to meet the demanding markets for rugged and reliable underwater viewing systems. The ROV uses the latest technology for maximum operating efficiency in marine operations. Reliability has always been foremost in the development of the ROV package and with the inclusion of a network control system and a comprehensive diagnostics system, the functional design will assure continuous performance in all operations. Added to this efficient control system, all vehicle functions are monitored by high capability diagnostic electronics - diagnostics generally found in more costly work-class ROVs, which will identify fault sectors that may be problematic, without loss of control to the ROV. Basic cabin-fit system The basic cabin-fit entry level system is for users who will rack-mount the Surface Power Console (SPC) and Surface Display Console (SDC) in their own permanent or semi-permanent cabin or enclosure. 150m umbilical is suitable for shallow water applications without the need for a deck lead or cable reel. Lights, cameras and video recording are standard features across all three system variants.

Standard system The standard system is as per the Basic Cabin-fit system as detailed above but comes supplied with a 300m umbilical, cable reel for fully portable and mobile operations, and a rugged, waterproof, anti-vibration enclosure. Elite ‘dynamic positioning autopilot system’ In addition to the Standard system as detailed above. The Elite system includes SeeByte’s CoPilot (www.seebyte.com) software and is fitted with a tooling skid, and all relevant equipment for the automated pilot control system to enable ‘stop and hover’, and dynamic positioning operations. The software enhances any ROV operation by increasing efficiencies when travelling to and returning to pre-defined way points, holding station, or fighting against currents. This system includes a BV M900 sonar and a TRDI Doppler Velocity Log.

System overview
The thrusters are assembled using high efficiency brushless DC motors with direct drive to the propeller blades fitted with high quality bearings, seal cartridge, rotary seals to minimise any sand entrapment, a wiper seal provides overall protection. The seal cartridge houses the rotary seals and bearings and is designed to be maintenance free. In the event of a failure the cartridge can be easily replaced within minutes minimising downtime. In order to reduce drag and improve the ROV performance, the electronics housings have been designed to fit under the buoyancy module on the vehicle frame. The 16mm diameter tether significantly increase the vehicles manoeuvrability and versatility. The Pilot's hand controller houses the control joysticks, potentiometers and membrane pad buttons in a splash proof, illuminated, rugged housing. A powerful, stable and reliable platform, that can travel over 4.0 knots and bollard pull up to 45kg in a forward motion. A maintenance and tool kit is included as standard with the vehicle consisting of O ring kit, fuse kit, seals, propeller, fasteners and hardware. An additional operational spares kit and remote spares kits are available on request.

SeeByte’s CoPilot is the world’s most advanced, easy-to-use, plug-and play software that makes piloting any ROV a much simpler task. Through a straightforward and intuitive point and click interface, CoPilot has led the way in the offshore oil and gas industry. CoPilot permits pilot controlled auto-transit and stop-and-hover, whilst providing automated sonar tracking and movement relative to a target. The control and flexibility offered on-survey allows for un-planned intervention with minimal error and down-time. Better plans: pre-plan the survey and have the ROV automatically follow it. Leave no room for error. An ROV equipped with SeeBytes CoPilot maintains excellent heading and position control even when in transit. The performance of the ROV far surpasses the performance of an ROV pilot (up to 10 times better). This means you will be getting a good distribution of data points all over your survey area, no need to interpolate or extrapolate.

Predator’s Surface Control Console is designed to withstand the extreme environment of offshore operations while still being lightweight and portable.
Ergonomically designed for fatigue-free operations. High quality joysticks, switches and potentiometers are used for ROV control, camera and lighting functions. The hand controller is rugged, splash proof and can be lap, table or shelf mounted. The backlit keypad eases low light operations and reduces pilot fatigue.
Predator’s Power Console is designed to withstand the extreme conditions experienced offshore. The robust, waterproof case houses a 400 Volt DC supply and the ground fault/line insulation monitor.
The reel provides a storage and deployment solution for up to 450 metres of Kevlar reinforced 16mm soft umbilical. Constructed from polypropylene and stainless steel, the reel benefits from a user-friendly, collapsible handle and progressive brake.

The ruggedised 19-inch rack is suspended on anti-vibration mounts and attached to a robust, waterproof case which is interstackable with the equally durable power supply console. The console is fitted with a 19-inch industrial PC, built with durability, ease of support and undemanding operation in mind. A pull out 19inch tilting HD monitor allows for an ergonomic operating angle for the operator.

All connections between the Control Console and Power supply are conveniently stored and located at the rear of the unit. The single connector on the front panel is to the ROV or umbilical winch to ease mobilisation. The power console additionally benefits from an external surge protector to protect the system, operation and operator from dirty power supplies often found offshore.

The Predator is designed to accommodate a number of options and accessories via its RS232/485 and Ethernet protocols. In addition to it’s standard factory-fitted lights and cameras, an HD camera option, imaging sonars from Teledyne or Tritech, USBL beacons, navigation aids such as Doppler Velocity Logs and SeeByte’s CoPilot can be installed. An ROV Toolkit, a simple grabbing arm and a cutter can be interfaced also. The wide variety of options makes this the most versatile inspection class ROV of it’s type.

Functionality normally used in large work-class vehicles but transferring to smaller ROVs enables the ROV Pilot to ‘click and go’ directly to a sonar identified target or seafloor object, allowing mid water stationkeeping where ROV altitude allows, (stop and hover), automatic target tracking, seabed mapping and mosaicing, cruise control, autopilot, repeat track, ultimately making pilot tasks simpler and more efficient.
The new Explorer DVL is the long awaited solution to high quality navigation aboard small underwater platforms such as the Predator ROV. The Explorer DVL has been designed specifically for this next generation of shallow water platforms requiring Teledyne RDI’s proven precision and reliability in a compact and versatile package.
The industry’s most compact, full featured 2D Multibeam Imaging Sonar available. Engineered to fit in small, tight spaces the M Series is 30% smaller than the popular P Series, and delivers the same crisp, real-time sonar imagery. The 130 degree field of view makes it ideal for the pilot to ‘see’ in video-like imagery a panoramic field of view, even in zero visibility waters. The sonar makes up the 3rd component of the SeeByte CoPilot ® system.
Teledyne BlueView's M900-2250 series includes a 900kHz with 130 degree field of view and 2250kHz with 130 degree field of view in a compact package. The M9002250-130's field of view has been increased by over 125% from the previous dual frequency model.
The skid is quickly and easily fitted to the Predator utilising the same high quality contoured Polypropylene as the Vehicle. The Tooling Skid is designed to carry any of the optional grabbing arm or sensors, while maintaining a clear, un-obstructive flow generated by each of the five thrusters.

The Bowtech Products LED-GSERIES underwater LED lights are available with 800, 1,000 or 1,600 lumens output and various colour temperature options. The 800 lumen model is designed to operate in wet and dry conditions.

HydroC™ Mobile Early Leak Detection System is a combination of three different detection technologies, for identification and characterization of hydrocarbon pollution in water with a low false alarm rate.
The Super SeaPrince has been developed from the industrystandard SeaKing and Micron sonars. The Super SeaPrince utilises the same Digital Sonar Technology (DST) composite transducer and Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse (CHIRP) technology, offering exceptional clarity and resolution as a dual frequency mechanical scanning sonar.
The Super SeaKing DST is a digital CHIRP dual frequency sonar capable of operating in Low Frequency or High Frequency modes. When operating in Low Frequency mode the sonar has a true operational range of 300m. Switching to High Frequency mode the same sensor is capable of providing a high definition image at shorter range.

The RTS CP System is a complete key solution for Cathodic Protection Measurements. The system is based on a standard Tip Contact probe, the RTS CP AD-Converter and the RTS display & logger software. Easy ROV interface, only one RS232/422/485 compatible up link and 24V DC supply required.
Specifically designed for underwater remotely operated vehicles. Gauges again benefit from the multiple-echo technology found in all Cygnus’ ultrasonic measuring devices. They are truly versatile and designed to measure metal thickness through coatings in the harshest operating conditions.
The Bowtech Products ST6K, Xenon submersible strobes are selfcontained, compact, high intensity xenon beacons, designed for use as a visual aid to locate submersible vehicles or instrumentation packages when they surface for recovery. They can also be used to mark underwater objects, vehicles, divers or work sites.
The Stainless Steel Deployment cage offers a secure enclosure to prevent damage during Launch & Recovery to the ROV.
Tritech PA200 and PA500 Digital Precision Altimeters are based on the same high performance electronics found in the well-proven, industry standard Tritech SeaKing sonar and profiler systems.
Weights can be added to assist deeper deployment allowing the ROV to be "garaged" safely, whilst at depth.
The range of compact Tritech PA200 and PA500 Digital Precision Altimeters provide exceptionally accurate height off seabed and subsea distance measurements. The 500kHz PA500 Altimeter is supplied with Tritech’s 700 series bathy.

Signature1000 and Signature500, two advanced five-beam current profiling systems, are made with the most demanding scientific user in mind. Built on the advanced AD2CP platform, Signature1000 and Signature500 are designed for unprecedented performance in high energy turbulent environments, while also giving users the freedom to employ two measurement schemes at one time. Altimeter data provides the user with a highresolution distance measurement to the surface or the bottom.
The Seatronics SeaFMD ROV flooded member detector is used on ROV’s to determine if a subsea void is filled with a liquid or gas (up to the inspection point). The main advantage of the SeaFMD is to determine whether a leak has occurred within subsea enclosures.
The WBMS-series are ultra compact sonars designed specifically for use on even very small platforms. With low power consumption, the system may be operated for a full day on a single battery. NORBIT’s wideband multibeam technology allows long range real-time data collection, whilst simultaneously achieving very- high range resolution.

A flexible and highly versatile suite of tools provides ROV operators with a modular set of tools that allows them to perform common tasks with greater ease and efficiency whilst reducing operational time. Tool heads mount onto a common clamp and post system, allowing them be changed and repositioned within a matter of minutes, requiring less downtime between different jobs. Launch and recovery system (LARS)
A compact self-contained launch and recovery system for the Seatronics Predator ROV, allowing the ROV to be safely launched and recovered from vessels where personnel access to the waterline is restricted or impossible. The Predator has successfully completed a wide variety of tasks. These include, but are not limited to, the following: Rig Positioning - The Predator was tasked to support the pin-point positioning of a jack
up drilling rig in close proximity to existing seabed architecture. Seebyte software allowed the Predator to remain on station for extended periods of time in close proximity to the legs as well as being able to autonomously return to pre-marked locations/ launch point.
Power Plant Inspection - The Predator was used to visually inspect Hydro-Electric Power Plant intake gates along with the power plant under-water infrastructure. The ROV also completed a Highway bridge structure inspection in the USA. Hull Inspections - The vehicle has been utilized to complete numerous hull inspections, both visual and multi-beam SONAR.
Search & Recovery - The ROV was deployed in Indonesia to locate, identify and aid in

Marine Biology - A team of Marine Biologists are using a Predator, equipped with Distance Measuring Lasers, to measure mussels in their natural habitat in the Baltic Sea. The Predator was specifically chosen because of its portable nature and ability to be operated with minimal training.
Treasure Hunting - The Predator was successful in performing identification on a sunken historical vessel & verification inspections working in high current area (3-5Kts +) at depths of 600ft off the NE coast of the US.
