T
he year 2018 is a very special one for us, as we are quietly celebrating our 130th anniversary. Fitter than ever, supported by a loyal clientele and motivated workforce, we are optimistically and bravely facing the multifaceted challenges of the future. Increasingly, our family business is active on an international scale, constantly reaching new and passionate watch lovers and jewellery wearers with wonderful creations. The current edition of our magazine takes you to the international metropolis of London, where we have been present since 2017 with several boutiques in exclusive locations, such as Covent Garden or in the Wonder Room at the world-famous Selfridges department store. In addition to the latest creations of many well-known watch manufacturers, we also present the exclusively available Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS collection, which was created in close cooperation with some of the most prestigious watchmaking houses. It symbolises Bucherer’s extremely close and innovative spirit of collaboration with the watchmaking industry. In our photo series on watches, we take a look at the world of motorsport, which has always inspired the creation of timepieces. The fascination for aesthetic watches in the environment of finely tuned sports cars from times gone by remains unbroken to this day. Our jewellery brand Bucherer Fine Jewellery is also attractively presented. The newest Peekaboo collection really comes into its own as the days warm up. Spring and summer are very popular for wedding parties. We show what to look for when buying the perfect engagement ring. This piece of jewellery accompanies an entire life, so it must be selected with great care. There are also some cool, charming or simply fascinating jewellery creations from Bucherer Fine Jewellery to discover. I wish you an inspiring read. Chairman of the Board of Directors

SPECIAL REVIEW FROM
THE BEST OF THE SIHH — Innovative movement by Baume & Mercier as well as new editions by Vacheron Constantin and Cartier. TEXT: MARC- ANDRÉ DESCHOUX
News from the Geneva watch salon from the viewpoint of Marc-André Deschoux, who as a reporter for #BuchererLive got to the bottom of this year’s motto, “QuickChange Strap Systems”. The first proprietary Baumatic movement by Baume & Mercier, which was developed in its entirety by the company, is impressive. A total of four core areas have been renewed to improve accuracy and longevity. These innovations led to better performance (fiveday power reserve), better shielding against magnetism and longer intervals between servicing. Our customers with active lifestyles will appreciate the improvements. The Vacheron Constantin manufacture is known for its simple designs, which are refined in fine gold and pink gold. Recently, an entry-level version in steel has been made available for the first time. The design is inspired by the classic model from the 1950s, which was the main source of inspiration for the modern design of the Fiftysix. Cartier begins 2018 with its completely reworked and redesigned Santos de Cartier collection. The watch is avail-
able in two different sizes, whereby the larger version of 39.8 to 47.5 millimetres also offers a date display. One particular highlight: thanks to the patented QuickSwitch system, customers can easily and quickly replace the additional leather strap themselves. New edition of Polaris by JaegerLeCoultre and completely new Piaget Possession collection
Exactly 50 years ago, the first Memovox Polaris from Jaeger-LeCoultre entered the market. The diver’s watch from the 1960s is being reissued as a whole new collection, from the simpler edition
with automatic movement to the chronograph featuring world time. Our customers with a taste for the classics should not overlook this gem. Piaget presented its women’s watch collection, Possession, in playful combinations of gold, diamonds, steel and gemstones. Of special note are the rotating bezels and the colourful, easily interchangeable wristbands. The Possession collection embodies an ode to the joy of life and the art of living life to the fullest.

SPECIAL REVIEW FROM
HIGHLIGHTS OF BASELWORLD — New Rolex and Tudor GMT ranges in “Pepsi” colours and a world first for Carl F. Bucherer. TEXT: MARC- ANDRÉ DESCHOUX
The largest watch trade fair in the world from the point of view of Marc-André Deschoux, who was there as a reporter for #BuchererLive on the lookout for trends.
The rumours were true: In Basel, Rolex presented a new GMT-Master II “Pepsi” with a 24-hour graduated two-colour Cerachrom bezel insert in red and blue ceramic. The most important innovations: the watch is now completely in Oystersteel, for the fi rst time in a long time combined with the classic Oystersteel Jubilee bracelet and an absolutely new movement (calibre 3285) with a 70-hour power reserve.
ROLEX, Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II,
Oystersteel, 40 mm, automatic movement, second time zone, date display, bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel with Cerachrom insert, CHF 8 800.–
The next highlight is the simultaneously released fi rst GMT version of the Black Bay collection by Tudor, also in “Pepsi” colours. Tudor is expanding its Black Bay collection, which has become popular over the past few years, by introducing a model with multiple time zones. This watch also stands out with the distinctive blue and Bordeaux colours of the bezel. Just like the Rolex GMT-Master II, the Tudor GMT has a power reserve of 70 hours. Matching wristbands in brown leather or black fabric are
available for this watch. With the launch of these two new products, the Rolex and Tudor brands once again manifest their leading position in the fi eld of GMT timepieces. In Basel, Carl F. Bucherer demonstrates the innovative power of the company. The brand presents a world fi rst with the Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral. The new CFB T300 movement, which was completely developed at Carl F. Bucherer’s factory in Lengnau, Austria, is the only one of its kind in the world: a peripheral selfwinding mechanism is combined with a peripheral tourbillon that seems to fl oat.
Anniversary for the Chopard Happy Sport line and new quartz precision at Longines
It’s been 25 years since Chopard launched the Happy Sport line. In 1993, Chopard dared to be the fi rst brand to combine diamonds with stainless steel. The guillotined dial is protected by two layers of sapphire crystal, with seven free-moving diamonds in between. A new manufacture movement, which was specially developed by Chopard for the 36-millimetre rose gold case, has now been added. The Conquest V.H.P. by Longines sets a new milestone in quartz watch technology. V.H.P. stands for “very high precision” and combines absolute precision, high technicality and a sporty design. The annual deviation of the movement is no more than 5 seconds. Also new: the Conquest V.H.P. models are now also available with a second time zone.

ONCE LONDON, ALWAYS LONDON! Whether pop culture or bold fashion, trends are emerging in London that are changing the spirit of the times and are becoming iconic. Adrian Marronneau, Purchasing Director, Bucherer UK TEXT: SABRINA KAISER-KOSSMAYR
London – a city that has more to offer than fish and chips, Buckingham Palace and Madame Tussaud’s. The British capital is not only one of the most popular cities in the world – it is also considered a mecca of culture, fashion and fine food. London’s unique and cosmopolitan charm attracts travellers from all over the world. In the metropolis on the Thames, you’re spoiled for choice. Whether you fancy culture or want to immerse yourself in the British music scene, we’ll show you the best hotspots in London that you shouldn’t miss! “It was love at first sight,” says Adrian Marronneau of London, the city where the native Frenchman
lives and works. London has something unmistakably its own. A very special aroma, a unique atmosphere, a hustle and bustle on the streets. Modern skyscrapers next to traditional brick-built pubs. The one does not exclude the other. Many things have contributed to Adrian Marronneau’s love for London: modern-designed department stores, countless museums, as well as cocktails enjoyed at night at trendy bars or tea time scones in five-star hotels. For you, Adrian has put together a list of his favourite locations in the British metropolis. His collection of restaurants, hotels, luxury shopping and tourist attractions will captivate your senses with their zest for life as they invite you to linger, shop and discover. © Getty Images

VISION & TRADITION
PEEKABOO
shop. bucherer. com When New York jewellery designer Yunjo Lee designed the Peekaboo collection for Bucherer Fine Jewellery last year, she had in mind a vision of a woman who was as confident as she was feminine, as coquettish as she was determined, and modern without ever losing sight of her own style. A woman who loves the playfulness in fashion and likes to try different styles while remaining true to herself. France’s legendary queen held up as the reference. This is not so much to adorn the project with the mantle of history, but because Marie-Antoinette fascinates us to this day – and her myth lives on in contemporary art and culture. Wishes of the customers Yunjo Lee’s considerations rise to meet them. The women in the Bucherer target markets delighted over the delicate pink, light blue and yellow gems with the diamond sparkles as soon as they saw them in the display cases last autumn, and they took an active part in playing with the various wearing options. Some wanted the pieces to be even finer, others wanted them to be more distinctive. Others, in turn, encouraged even more combination options. “The popularity of the Peekaboo jewellery was great, but the wishes of the customers were still heard,” says Catherine Sackmann, Category Manager of colour jewellery at Bucherer Fine Jewellery. The fresh pastel tones of the Peekaboo collection – in addition to pink morganite and light blue aquamarine, there is also the delicate yellow beryl – were right in step with the trend, says the expert. Therefore, none of the colours
B B u c h e r e r T h e M a g a z i n e — I s s u e 1-2 018
were changed for the expanded range. However, the cut of the stones and the type of gold were switched up, and two ways of wearing were also added: 2-in-1 stud earrings and flexible bangles, which sync perfectly with today’s new style of wearing jewellery. New in white gold While Peekaboo was exclusively available in rose gold last year, Bucherer Fine Jewellery is now offering new white gold versions. Catherine Sackmann explains, “We did this primarily at the suggestion of customers who wanted something bold, and furthermore, we at Bucherer Fine Jewellery have a great deal of expertise in white gold jewellery.” However, that does not mean that the Peekaboo customers would now be forced to choose between conventional rose gold or the new white gold. “The two shades of gold go together perfectly. This creates a very sophisticated interplay, especially with the finger rings, where the ring band is so delicately made that you can wear several rings together,” says Sackmann. The new cut also complements the existing one perfectly. New cut The classic round cut is complemented by the elegant, square cushion cut with rounded corners in the Peekaboo line extension. Bucherer uses both cuts in a specially designed version. They are tried and tested and they have 58 facets that give the delicate pastel tones of the stones a mysterious intensity and a seductive fire. They com-
plement each other perfectly when both variants are worn together. The ability to express personal and individual style is highly important to many customers. Catherine Sackmann also sees a growing interest in coloured engagement rings, made popular by the likes of English princesses Catherine Middleton and Eugenie of York. The Peekaboo version with the pink morganite has been sold several times for just this romantic occasion. Colours and variations The quality of the subtle Peekaboo colour spectrum of morganite, aquamarine and beryl is overseen by Bucherer’s chief gemmologist Martin Julier. This example shows just how demanding Julier’s eye is: Out of 1 000 raw gemstones, 600 are selected for sanding. And of these, 400 polished specimens pass the next level of control. Ultimately, Julier will select only 300 stones as Peekaboo gems. A rigorous selection of materials, but a wide range of refined jewellery: this is Peekaboo 2018.

What exactly can you buy in your e-boutique and how many brands are there?
With the opening of the new distribution channel on the Internet, we’re particularly responding to customer needs that can’t be ignored today. But in doing so, we’re also taking a decisive step in confirming our leadership position in the industry and consolidating it across all channels. In the spring of 2017, Bucherer acquired the English watch retailer The Watch Gallery, a company that already has many years of experience in e-commerce. We were able to draw on this experience, initially in the implementation of our online boutique for the Swiss market, in spring of this year for Germany. We are now also implementing another online shop for our customers in France.
We offer a wide range of watches and high-quality jewellery in our e-boutique. Depending on the country, there are currently 25 to 45 different watch brands available online. In England, we offer the most comprehensive range of watches. There are over 3 500 different watch models available online. Depending on the country, there are between 450 and 600 pieces of jewellery online in the jewellery area. Here, in Switzerland, we offer the most comprehensive selection. However, we are in the process of expanding our jewellery offering in all countries in the coming months.
Are you not worried about a group-wide cannibalisation of the business and a weakening of the existing actual boutiques?
No, business in the actual boutiques will continue to play an important role in the future – especially in our industry. However, customer behaviour has changed significantly in recent years. Today, most customers first find out about our products online via the Internet and then come into our stores with clear ideas. How are you responding to this trend?
We clearly understand and design our e-boutique as an information tool. The customer can get a comprehensive picture of our product range here. They can compare different models of watches and jewellery and make a

selection. They are completely free as to when and where they do this; there are no shop opening hours. If they want to buy something, they can have their selected product delivered to their home. But they can also visit a Bucherer boutique to hold the product in their own hands and try it on. Does the opposite also happen?
Of course, we see that all the time. The customer looks at an article in the boutique and can’t immediately make up their mind to buy it on the spot. Then, if they make the decision later, the selected watch or piece of jewellery can be conveniently ordered online from home. With the online shop, we also reach a new clientele, people who previously might have had to overcome a bit of an inhibition to enter a traditional shop. Of course, those inhibitions don’t exist online. Where do you see the potential in the medium term? At 5, 50 or more than 50 per cent of total sales?
We shall see. The purchase of a beautiful watch or a fine piece of jewellery is not something you make every day. Most customers want to get expert advice. They want to take their time in deciding on the purchase and also celebrate this special moment. In ad-

dition, we have higher prices in the luxury watch and jewellery business than in other products, which presents a natural inhibition to e-commerce. We strongly believe in the future of boutiques, but we’re also promoting online sales. Has the Internet really in f lu enced shopping habits?
Above all, digitalisation has fundamentally changed information behaviour. Today’s customer is more informed than ever. Many customers have already gone through a large part of the buying process when they come into a boutique. Where the purchase decision is finally made, either online or in the boutique, will vary from case to case. But we can say the following for sure: In the early stages of the buying decision, digital communication channels are playing an increasingly important role, no matter if it happens on corporate websites or social media channels, or through independent information platforms. This trend will certainly intensify in the next few years as younger generations come along. There are many other online boutiques. What makes Bucherer different than the others?
Bucherer offers by far the largest selection of first-class brands online. There is also real advice upon request: Our customer service team is available to customers from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm – by phone, e-mail and chat. Watch and jewellery experts can answer questions, advise or even arrange appointments. And of course you can view and try on everything you see online in our stores. Thanks to our extensive network of branches, the nearest store is certainly not that far away.

PERFECT TIMING
Today, the fact that the online market for vintage models and watches works for the entry-level segment seems to be clear. But what about the luxury segment?
The online sale of luxury watches is still young and can definitely be developed. But we clearly believe that; otherwise we wouldn’t be so heavily investing in this area.

The Perfect Match — Meant for each other After the engagement comes the wedding. So it is critical that the engagement ring goes with the wedding ring, as both are often thereafter worn together. At Bucherer Fine Jewellery, engagement and wedding rings are designed for each other right from the start. Matched in design and fi t, the Joy engagement rings nestle perfectly with an alliance ring or a classic wedding ring made by Bucherer. Worn together, the rings stand as a beautiful symbol of the symbiosis of two loving people. But even worn separately, every single one of these seductive and elegant rings is stunning in its perfection.
There are endless possibilities for variation – there are as many as 1.4 million options for combining the rings and their numerous designs, alloys and thousands of stone qualities, cut shapes and carat sizes, and putting them together according to your personal wishes and individual ideas. Whether simple and discreet, playfully romantic or elaborate with a diamond pavé – the rings accentuate the uniqueness of the chosen ones through their diverse combination possibilities. At the same time, each ring from the Joy collection represents the passion and most precise craftsmanship with which the traditional Swiss company Bucherer has been creating jewellery since 1888.
— The perfect ambience An engagement ring is one of the most emotional pieces of jewellery in the world, so buying the ring is a very special event. Bucherer therefore offers its customers in its boutiques a special feelgood ambience, where they can be inspired by the tempting selection with a glass of champagne or a coffee. The Bucherer diamond specialists are excellently trained and support and advise on choosing the perfect ring for the beloved. At its headquarters at Schwanenplatz in Lucerne, Bucherer has come up with a very special highlight for its clientele: A Romance Lounge built into the jewellery department with an elegant interior and a wonderful view of Lake Lucerne and the mountains – the perfect ambience for choosing jewellery for the great day of love.

— The new star of the Joy collection Diamond rings with a six-prong setting are among the all-time classics. With the launch of the new Joy Six, ladies will now also find this option in the Joy collection. The magical Solitaire Joy Six ring in 18K white, yellow or rose gold and a brilliant cut diamond can also be perfectly combined with alliance or wedding rings without creating a gap between the rings. Like every ring from the Joy ring collection, the Joy Six can be individually composed in terms of size or alloy. What remains at the end is simply the sweet agony of choice. ASK THE EXPERTS — Many men are at first a bit overwhelmed by planning their marriage proposal and purchasing the engagement ring. Fortunately, there are experts who provide skilled and helpful support. A conversation with Tobias Lanz, Head of Diamond Purchasing at Bucherer Fine Jewellery and Regula Fankhauser, Diamond Specialist and Sales Consultant in the Lucerne Romance Lounge, about choosing the right engagement ring and what to look for. Ms Fankhauser, men often feel inhibited about going into a wedding lounge at the jeweller’s. How would you advise them?
RF: Buying an engagement ring is very emotional and a very special moment. Often men come with a companion who knows the future bride very well, which is very helpful in choosing the right ring. Do you recommend a personal conversation or can you order a ring on bucherer.com?
RF: Of course, you can order a Bucherer solitaire ring or other jewellery on our website, but I recommend a visit to our Romance Lounge, as we can advise and support the customer even more individually in a personal conversation. Where is the engagement ring worn in Switzerland – on the left or the right hand?
RF: The selection of the side is an individual matter. Both are possible.
What are the engagement ring trends for 2018?
TL: An absolute highlight and guarantor of success is the recently introduced Joy ring variation with a diamond in the cushion-shaped cut. A new trend is the processing of fantasy cuts, which prompted us to add emerald cut diamonds to the Joy family towards the end of this year. New to the range is the Joy Six, so that the customer looking for a six-prong solitaire can have one. Despite the addition of two prongs, this solitaire, like all other versions of the Joy line, fits perfectly with the alliance or wedding ring. Can you define more exactly what is meant by the fifth C?
TL: The trust seal of Confidence is a very important feature. It represents the fifth C in addition to the other four Cs (Carat, Cut, Clarity, Colour). This allows the customer to fully trust that we know the source of our diamonds. We only work with trustworthy suppliers over many years who can prove this fact at any time in writing. How do you ensure the quality of the stones at Bucherer Fine Jewellery?
At the Bucherer Fine Jewellery Studios in Lucerne, every single stone is tested, as is the GIA certificate
provided for stones of a certain size and the information contained in the certificate. Today, we only buy stones that are excellently cut and that meet the strict internal Bucherer guidelines. Ms Fankhauser, what makes Bucherer Fine Jewellery special?
RF: Bucherer has a long tradition and a great deal of expertise in the field of romantic engagement jewellery. In addition to one of the largest selections of engagement rings in Europe, we also offer high-quality materials, quality with many seals and a unique design at an attractive price-performance ratio. In addition, customers appreciate the elegant ambience in the Romance Lounges, where they can be inspired by coffee or champagne, and where trained staff can tell the story about every piece of jewellery.

A TREASURE IN TURQUOISE — With their variety of colours, tourmalines are among the most popular gemstones. A special rarity among them is the Paraiba turquoise. TEXT: MARIANNE ESCHBACH – ILLUSTRATIONS: JESSICA DURRANT
Its colour varies between that of a tropical ma rine lagoon and a luxurious swimming pool. This deep turquoise tone is the reason for its desira bility, as Bucherer Fine Jewellery chief gemmol ogist Martin Julier knows. “In the world of gems, noth ing compares to the Paraiba tourmaline”, he gushes. Bucherer was one of the first jewellers to offer the exceptional gemstone discovered in the Brazilian state of Paraiba in the 1980s. Nearly 20 years ago, a Paraiba-like tourmaline was discovered in Africa, more precisely in Mozambique and Nigeria. The African Paraiba-like tourmaline differs from the Brazilian in its colouring – it is slightly less in tense – but the African Paraiba is bigger. With this
as the centrepiece, Bucherer Fine Jewellery has high hopes for success with the Peekaboo collec tion: The Peekaboo Paraiba has a weight of over 20 carats. The rarity in the square cushion cut sparkles in an incredible turquoise blue. The ring band and platinum frame are set with diamonds of over 1.2 carats. In the jewellery studio of Bucherer Fine Jewellery in Lucerne, the pro duc tion of this masterpiece demanded a maximum of craftsmanship from the master goldsmiths and jewellers. Bucherer Fine Jewellery has succeeded in creating a unique piece of top quality jewellery that could not have better embodied the joie de vivre of summer.

BLUE — In literature, this colour stands for distance, longing and clarity. It is considered calming, moderating and pleasant. And it is the raison d’être for the Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS collection. Piaget Polo S Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS
Chopard Happy Sport Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS
When Piaget launched the Polo S in 2016, they made a statement: A sporty watch with a pillowshaped dial in a round case. As a watch with a steel case, the piece was a brand premiere and represented, as Piaget said, an approach to “new territory”. The modern, youthful and attractively priced watch was launched with a special communication concept. Game changers, people who have made a difference and represent a new generation, showed the clock in the right light. In Switzerland, it was the successful author Joël Dicker. For the Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS, the watch is available with a guilloché dial in noble dark blue, with subtle red gold accents. The rotor of the automatic movement with engraved brand coat of arms is also dark blue.
The parent of this watch was born in 1993 and made a rather audacious first appearance: The first steel watch in the world with diamonds – which were only allowed to move playfully under the glass on the dial. What was revolutionary at the time soon gained cult status and has now become a classic. For the Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS, the watch now comes first appearance: steel and red gold. And, to match the theme, with two blue, freely moving sapphires next to the traditional white Chopard diamonds. The indices and the noble alligator strap are also blue, while under the diamonds, the automated mechanical movement ticks away.

REBIRTH OF A LEGEND — History writes the future. This is also the case with the Polaris collection by watch manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre. Inspired by the 1968 Memovox Polaris, the Grand Maison now sports timepieces that are as sporty as they are elegant. TEXT: SABRINA K AISER- KOSSMAYR
The heroes of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection are timepieces with character and esprit – and intended for the strong and independent man who has time to enjoy the finer things in life. Inspired by the 1968 Memovox Polaris, the watches in the collection not only bear the spirit and history of the former icon, they also impress with their contemporary translation into the modern age. Five-time comeback The new collection consists of five exquisite stainless steel models that represent the finest watchmaking and perfect design. The dial design encompasses three finishing variants as well as the complete redesign featuring a sports watch case and threepiece metal bracelet, which can be optionally replaced by an alligator or calf leather strap. The Memovox Polaris model is released in a limited edition of 1 000 for its 50th anniversary and also features the legendary alarm function that made the former Memovox Polaris famous. The basic model of the collection, the Polaris Automatic, is sporty and timeless, while the Polaris Chronograph with its tachymeter bezel is inspired by motorsport. Other highlights include the Polaris WT,
a world-time complication and perfect travel companion, and the Polaris Date with its modern vintage charm. Star in red gold The only model of the collection in precious metal is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph in red gold with an alligator strap: a perfect liaison of sophisticated sporty charm and sheer elegance. The red gold case with a diameter of 42 millimetres has an anthracite-coloured dial with sunburst, grit and opaline finish, as well as a tachymeter scale and a revolving mass made of red gold. Perfected craftsmanship, heritage, precision and aesthetic beauty: the Polaris collection by Jaeger-LeCoultre – entirely created according to the motto “Made of Makers”.

TIMEPIECE WITH SPEED — Roger Dubuis is the brand with the “Dare to be Rare” image. With a creative collaboration with Lamborghini and Pirelli, the Geneva-based watch manufacturer is rapidly speeding ahead with its new models from the Excalibur series this year. TEXT: SABRINA K AISER- KOSSMAYR
The name Roger Dubuis has always stood for precision watchmaking and staying faithful to its principle “Dare to be Rare” for contrasting materials, revolutionary high-tech designs and a penchant for adventure. With the legendary brands Perfect Fit Pirelli and Raging Mechanics Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Roger Dubuis not only combines the same spirit, but also the aspiration to create truly superlative products. The Titan Bolide Since 2017, there has been top-class cooperation with the premium tyre manufacturer and exclusive Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli, which, like Roger Dubuis, has always dedicated itself to the highest level of technical and industrial innovation. Following on from last year’s coloured timepieces, the Excalibur Spider Pirelli series now has the new black titanium body Excalibur Spider Pirelli automatic skeleton – exceptional design inside a 45-millimetre, skeletonized titanium case. For contrast, in the limited edition of 88 pieces, there is white stitching on the rubber strap, which is made of used Pirelli tyres, as well as a crown covered with white rubber.
The DNA of the highest performance Also limited to 88 pieces, the Excalibur Aventador S Blue Edition is hereby presented. The result is the spectacular timepiece from the sensational cooperation with the Squadra Corse racing department of Lamborghini. Top performance, high-tech materials and a line that is as charismatic as it is aesthetic are the common denominators of both companies, for whom nothing counts as much as the highest performance. The powerful “engine” of the 45-millimetre model is powered by its 312-piece duo-calibre RD103SQ with dual balance. The case, which is made of the same C-SMC carbon as the Lamborghini cars and the crown, is rich in contrast with blue rubber coating. A thoroughly successful performance!

DARE TO HYBRIDISE — Audacity has a name: Black Bay Chrono. This timepiece is not only the first Tudor chronograph with a manufacture calibre, but also a hybrid that combines Tudor’s diving heritage and its legacy in the world of motorsport. A watch made for darers like David Beckham! TEXT: SABRINA K AISER- KOSSMAYR
Tudor timepieces stand for heritage, high quality and sportiness. Closely linked to motorsport since the presentation of the first Oysterdate chronograph in 1970, Tudor has also nourished a strong connection with diving since 1954 and the introduction of its first diver’s watch. In the Black Bay Chrono, both areas now merge exquisitely, powered by the manufacture calibre MT5813 complete with column wheel and vertical clutch. Seductive in aesthetics and superior in its performance is the motto of this chronograph made of stainless steel with a diameter of 41 millimetres. The fixed bezel with engraved tachymeter scale, the domed, matt black dial with excellent readability, the 70-hour power reserve and the Snowflake hands – a Tudor signature design since 1969 – are further finely finished features that define this model. The Black Bay Chrono comes in three configurations: fitted with a stainless-steel bracelet, a navy blue denim-style textile strap or a tobacco brown leather strap.
The Black Bay Chrono is a sporty chronograph that not only garnered the “Petite Aiguille” Prize 2017 at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, but was also designed for men who dare to go a little further in life. “Born to Dare” is the credo that virtually no one could better embody than Tudor ambassador David Beckham, who as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and style icon, became a role model for millions, inspiring others far beyond the football world.
