IN THIS ISSUE 2018 Summer Theme Spring Volunteer Groups Summer Camp Info Seasonal Summer Jobs & Volunteer Opportunities Director’s Note

COMING SUMMER 2018: THE ELEMENTS OF FAITH Without giving too much away, we wanted to share the design and theme of our camps this summer: The Elements of Faith. The elements of nature (earth, wind, fire & water) are the divine inspiration behind our upcoming summer programming. If you know much about Buckhorn Camp, you know it is a place of beautiful, abundant earth, was greatly impacted by the High Park Fire in 2012, and because of the loss of tree cover and protective wind breaks, experiences some incredibly harsh 80 MPH winds in the winter. Combine that with the ample snowfall, natural stream, and two ponds, and the elements of nature are pretty befitting of camp! This summer, campers will explore how God is at work in each and every element of nature, and how these elements are at work in their personal lives and faith journeys.

New Volunteer Group Pricing The camp has received an influx of emails from groups who want to come to Buckhorn solely to serve around camp. We are so thankful for these requests, and volunteer labor is a necessity to keep camp in safe, working order! To help streamline these requests, we’ve developed reduced pricing that simply covers the cost of hosting (lodging/food/overhead) in exchange for the generous labor our volunteer groups provide. If you are part of a church, youth group, small group, or any other group that is interested in scheduling an intentional mission-based retreat, please let us know! We would love to help you craft a week or weekend of service (and fun!) in God’s beautiful creation. Contact Austin Hubbard at director@buckhorncamp.org for additional information!

SPRING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Summer camp season will be here before we know it, but before that starts we have roughly 6-7 weeks in the spring that would be perfect for volunteer groups to get on the calendar! Starting mid-March and going through midMay, Buckhorn is scheduling groups who want to retreat to the mountains and serve.

Maintenance projects continue in Buckhorn Lodge

John Fialko, Jerry Svboda, Fred Rosa and Jeff Johnson have been steadily working through projects in Buckhorn Lodge. They’ve installed new trim around the ceilings, floors and doors (left & top), and refinished the beautiful wood floors in the main room (right). We are so lucky to have talented hands on deck!

Communication Difficulties

BUCKHORN CAMP CONTACT INFORMATION

Austin Hubbard, Camp Director director@buckhorncamp.org office: 970.484.2508 381 Old Camp Rd. • PO Box 125 Bellvue, CO 80512

We are trying to resolve the phone-based communication issues that have been happening at camp, and appreciate your grace as we work on solutions. Our current phone lines are Internet based, and when the power goes out (a semi-frequent occurrence with 70-80 mph wind storms!), we lose our phone lines. If you have called or call in the future and leave a voicemail, we ask that you please follow that phone call up with an email to director@buckhorncamp.org to ensure no messages slip through the cracks. The multi-faceted needs of camp work often require the director to be outside of the physical office, another reason to follow up via email since the telephone is not always within reach. Thank you for understanding!
