Families in Service

What is Families in Service?

Families in Service is our Family Camp weekend at Buckhorn. This weekend is a special chance to get away and reconnect with family, friends, nature, and this year, with your own servant’s heart. We know how sacred your time away from the hustle and bustle of every day life is, and

how many things pull you in varying directions each and every day. We also know that people are looking for ways to give back, to participate in projects that offer personal fulfillment and do good for the communities around us. With Families in Service, we are offering guests the opportunity to take a weekend to give in and give back. Give In: to reconnecting, indulge in family time, spend time relaxing and enjoying all our beautiful camp has to offer. In addition to spending time around the grounds, we will have the following activities available for our family campers: sluice boxing, paddle boarding*, rock climbing*, slack lining, Gaga ball*, human fooseball*, arts & crafts, and more. Give Back: to God’s creation by helping with a variety of service projects available at Buckhorn. Projects will take place during a window of time on Saturday, with options available for every age and activity level. Projects may include helping in the camp garden, planting ground cover & greenery on the property, helping with fire remediation projects, and projects that help the camp remain safe and handicap accessible.

More information and registration is available at: BuckhornCamp.org/family-camp.html

SPRING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Summer camp season will be here before we know it, but before that starts we have roughly 6-7 weeks in the spring that would be perfect for volunteer groups to get on the calendar! Starting NOW and going through midMay, Buckhorn is scheduling groups who want to retreat to the mountains and serve.

THANKS, TEAM RUBICON! Earlier this month, Team Rubicon came up for the first of two disaster relief operations. They spent the weekend doing restoration work to Buckhorn Creek, and in June will be working around Buckhorn Camp & surrounding areas during Operation Burnt Tree 4. We are so grateful for Team Rubicon’s work at camp and around our community!

From the Director As the snow melts and the earth around camp begins to show, we get excited to see the thousands of saplings springing forth throughout Buckhorn’s landscape. It is a reminder for us that out of the ashes of the 2012 High Park Fire, life is blossoming in new and exciting ways. Another way we are seeing growth around camp is through all of our building projects. Buckhorn lost a total of 13 structures, including most of our “Miner’s Camp”,

Cabin 5, the barn, the shop, and the arts If you value the experience of camp and crafts building. Countless man hours and would like to help give someone have been poured into restoring Buckhorn else the opportunity to come to camp to its pre-fire operations and there is still this year, please consider donating to much left to do. The darkness of Lent our Camper Scholarship Fund. and the optimism that Easter brings us are great parallels for the future of BuckTo donate, use the QR code below horn. We are looking forward to bringing or visit www.BuckhornCamp.org Bear Paw Barn, the Miner’s Cabin, and and click “Donate to Camp” our office to occupancy and completion, creating new opportunities for giving back through Families in Service, and offering new activities like our Escape Rooms and bike trails. Our summer staff apartments above Buckhorn Lodge are also receiving a much-needed facelift from our volunteers, including new paint, flooring, and storage. Growth is happening at camp, and we are so thankful for our faithful volunteers and donors who are invested in the mission of this place.

Now is the time to book Fall Retreats The camp schedule fills up FAST and now is the time to start booking retreats for the Fall! Whether you’ve got a church group, small group, or youth group, or are looking for a business or leadership team retreat, Buckhorn provides the perfect setting. Enjoy the beautiful changing colors, crisp mountain air, and soak in the quiet, away from the hustle & bustle of city life. Along with offering a pretty spectacular location, we can also help you coordinate team building exercises, mountain hikes, rock climbing, and escape rooms...all at camp!

Communication Difficulties

BUCKHORN CAMP CONTACT INFORMATION

Austin Hubbard, Camp Director director@buckhorncamp.org office: 970.484.2508 381 Old Camp Rd. • PO Box 125 Bellvue, CO 80512

We are trying to resolve the phone-based communication issues that have been happening at camp, and appreciate your grace as we work on solutions. Our current phone lines are Internet based, and when the power goes out (a semi-frequent occurrence with 70-80 mph wind storms!), we lose our phone lines. If you have called or call in the future and leave a voicemail, we ask that you please follow that phone call up with an email to director@buckhorncamp.org to ensure no messages slip through the cracks. The multi-faceted needs of camp work often require the director to be outside of the physical office, another reason to follow up via email since the telephone is not always within reach. Thank you for understanding!
