3rd Grade Sap Boiling

Mr. Haupert's long-running tradition of tapping thesugar maples and making maple syrup with thestudents continues! Over the course of two weeks,the third graders made the daily trek out to theBuckingham Friends Meeting cemetery to measureand collect the sap. Using their math skills tocalculate the volume of sap, the students had todetermine which tree yielded the most sap eachday. As a culmination of the project, Mr. Haupertand the kids enjoyed a bonfire and day outsideboiling down the sap. It took 5 gallons of sap tomake a cup and a half of delicious maple syrup. Thekids undoubtedly have a newfound appreciation ofwhat goes into that delicious pancake topping now!
