erky and fun loving are the best adjectives to describe Chris Houwen, one of several cake decorators for McCaffrey’s Market. Cakes can be decorated with butter cream, light whip, whip cream or fondant in any colors imaginable. Fondant allows for more elaborate decorative elements because of its texture and ability to be formed into shapes, almost like clay. Chris is teaching others in the bakery to decorate and it is not necessary for her to take the order, since all the employees are able to take the order and present it to Chris. long the Delaware River in the quaint village of Lumberville you will find the historic Lumberville 1740 House Country Inn. Originally a working farm in the 1700s, it was later purchased by Harry Nessler in 1968 and turned into a motor lodge, with rooms having views of the river and the Lumberville-Raven Rock Pedestrian Bridge. In 2010, new owners purchased the 1740 House, including Joe Luccaro, owner of HollyHedge Estate. The partners restored and preserved the lengthy two-story inn. The 1740 House is a sister property of HollyHedge Estate. The wedding coordinators at HollyHedge work with the 1740 House to plan weddings and rehearsal dinners. The 1740 House has its own catering staff, and the executive chef at HollyHedge oversees the food quality and production. Both properties offer wedding packages that include the cake, ceremony, reception, flowers, and linens. According to General Manager Tim Luccaro, the 1740 House is ideal for small intimate weddings, as well as rehearsal dinners. “The 1740 House has a smaller capacity. In the winter, the maximum party size outdoors is 40 people. When we can make use of the patio and outside area, it goes up to 65 maximum. We can set up a package where we have the rehearsal dinner at the 1740 House outside and along the river. The next day, the wedding ceremony takes place at HollyHedge. You also can have the ceremony outside of the 1740 House along the waterfront, and the reception takes place in The
1740 Club. This members-only club features a bar, and a dining room with an old stone fireplace,� Luccaro says. uilt in the late 1700s and part of the original William Penn land grant, HollyHedge Estate is situated on 21 bucolic acres. Located near the Delaware River in New Hope, the estate has its own rustic charm and has become a premier destination for Bucks County weddings. According to General Manager Tim Luccaro, his family has been committed to preserving the elegance and natural beauty of their 18th-century farm and estate since taking over in 1994. They are stewards of their estate’s history and the pristine land on which they are located. His family has refurbished many of the historic buildings, restored the estate’s architectural features, and rejuvenated its land. They have a number of acres of land that were put under cultivation to grow various items that they can use in the preparation of food for weddings and their inn guests. “We are taking farm-to-table and sustainability to a new level. There is a classic fieldstone bank barn, which is popular for wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours. “The Old Barn” has all exposed fieldstone and wood beams throughout the barn. Adjacent to it is a classic English garden. On the
property there also are two small ornamental ponds, which are popular for pictures. There is a newer pole barn that was constructed for receptions. This space has all of the modern amenities. At the estate’s original manor house, there are 15 guest rooms. Inn guests can enjoy a full-service breakfast on weekends. Lambertville Station Restaurant & Inn
ituated along the Delaware River in New Jersey, you will discover the Hunterdon County landmark of The Lambertville Station Restaurant & Inn. For over 30 years, happy couples have been choosing the romantic venue for destination weddings. According to Owner Dan Whitaker, they are a one-stop facility. You can have a rehearsal dinner at the restaurant. There is a chapel for ceremonies by the newly designed inn ballroom. From the ceremony venue, you walk about 20 steps into the Riversedge Lounge for the cocktail hour. It has open arches, and is on the ground level next to the river and Swan Creek. Then you can take the elevator or climb the glass enclosed spiral staircase to the Riverside Ballroom. It opened in the spring of 2014, and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Kanoff, Graduate Gemologist, GIA, explains that at Michael’s Jewelers there are a large selection of rings in the store and getting the ring off the rack is the most cost effective way to buy. However, if you don’t find a ring in the collection, he has the ability to have it custom made. First the customer has to come up with a concept or design, which Michael’s can help with by showing a lot of different styles and seeing how the customer would like them altered or by a drawing or picture that the customer brings into the store. Michael takes notes and then submits everything to CAD (computer assisted drawing) and emails the CAD to the customer. It is very detailed and shows all the sides. If it isn’t exactly what the customer wants, changes are sent to Michael and he submits the changes to CAD.This continues until the customer is 100 percent satisfied.When approved, Michael makes a wax mold for the customer can see and try on for size. All changes are made and then after the final approval and the mold is cast in gold, silver or platinum. After that it is finished and polished and the diamonds or are set into the ring. Besides silver, gold and platinum, Michael’s has a large selection of alternative metals: tungsten, titanium and cobalt.
