It’s always best to approach engagement ring shopping as you would any other key aspect for your wedding. Bring as much information as you can about what is important to you and a list of questions. If you’re sure about what style you like, then it’s always helpful to bring photos. However, if you’re unsure and want to see options, then simply arrive open-minded and ready to voice your opinion. Timing of your visit: We absolutely recommend that you make an appointment as you would for gowns, cakes, etc. The more time that you allow for the process, the happier that you will be with the outcome. Your jeweler wants to be certain that you select a ring that you will treasure for a lifetime, so it’s important that there is lots of time to review options with you.

What are the basic rules of engagement ring shopping? Here’s the best news: there are no rules! You can mix metals, opt for nonmatching bands, select a colored gemstone, design your own ring, plan to wear your wedding ring on your right hand, and so on. Don’t feel rushed or pressured to adopt any custom or tradition if it doesn’t fit your lifestyle. Most important tip: Be sure you are working with a trusted and reputable jeweler. Ask questions and be certain that you feel completely comfortable with the entire process. A respectable jeweler will always take time to answer your questions and address any concerns. These helpful tips are provided by Hamilton Jewelers, www.hamilton jewelers.com, 1-800-5-HAMILTON, 92 Nassau St., Princeton, NJ.

WHILE 1.9 BILLION PEOPLE WATCHED PRINCE HARRY MARRY Meghan Markle last year, Bucks Countians Ranee Ann Henry and Edwin Peter Moor had a destination wedding, they dubbed as “Vermont’s version of the royal wedding.” Friends and family stayed at Edwin’s ski house in Killington Vermont, which was a perfect location for guests to, not only enjoy the wedding festivities, but also to see some of what Central Vermont has to offer during the spring. Events leading up to the wedding includes a welcome barbeque on Thursday and a marshmallow toasting on Friday. The wedding took place on Saturday, May 19 at Riverside Farms, a private and exclusive 84-acre property located in Pittsfield Vermont. Riverside Farms, which happens to be along the Appalachian

CENTRAL VERMONT

Trail. It has three unique barns, a groom’s cottage and a bridal cottage. For this Vermont style Royal Wedding, the bride got up at 4 a.m. As the sun came up, she went to the bridal cottage and with her maid of honor and best friend watched Princess Megan as she was getting out of her Rolls Royce, about to marry her Prince Charming. Soon it would be time for this Doylestown Bride to marry her very own Prince Charming. Even though there were torrential rains in Doylestown, a pocket of sunshine hovered over Central Vermont, providentially until the very last outdoor photo was taken. Even though the bride was disappointed it rained at all, the rain made for some really romantic umbrella pictures, taken near a 1930s’ Ford truck with a Doylestown directional sign in the background. The ceremony, which was officiated by the couple’s dearest friend, took place in the Red Barn in front of 140 guests. During the ceremony Ranee played two songs on the piano for the groom. During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed cheese, scrumptious hors d'oeuvres such as shrimp and beef skewers, butternut arancini balls, mini cheeseburgers and fried artichoke with aioli sauce. All this while being entertained by an acoustic guitarist. After the cocktail hour, the guests were shuttled over to the Brown Barn, which was decorated with gorgeous floral arrangements, lanterns, chandeliers hanging from the vaulted ceiling and 1000 lit tea light candles. Table names were named after the Edwin’s favorite Black Diamond trails. A New York City renowned Chef, who moved to Vermont with his wife, are the preferred caterers for Riverside Farm Weddings, and peo-

ple are still talking about the delicious and expertly prepared buffet provided. Winter Wonderland was the theme for the wedding cake and dessert table, that included a snowflake embossed three story cake, matching sugar cookies and cupcakes, made by a local baker. And a Vermont Wedding wouldn’t be complete without a Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Bar, accompanied with all the toppings made by the bride’s sister. A parade of sparklers sent off the couple, and guests grabbed their authentic maple syrup favor and traveled to the local snowmobile tavern, and danced the night away while having, you guessed it, more food. This how Doylestown royalty gets married in Vermont. O

WEDDING Celebrations long the Delaware River in the quaint village of Lumberville you will find the historic Lumberville 1740 House Country Inn. Originally a working farm in the 1700s, it was later purchased by Harry Nessler in 1968 and turned into a motor lodge, with rooms having views of the river and the Lumberville-Raven Rock Pedestrian Bridge. In 2010, new owners Joe Luccaro, owner of HollyHedge Estate, and his partner Dr. Neil Cohen purchased the 1740 House. The partners have restored and preserved the lengthy two-story inn—and established the 1740 Club on site at the Inn. The private Club is open to members only five days a week for private, riverfront dining and cocktails. But, can also be made available for private functions like bridal showers and rehearsal dinners to none members. According to General Manager Tim Luccaro, the 1740 House is ideal for small intimate parties, particularly riverfront rehearsal dinners. “We have recently overhauled our menu, partnering with great local purveyors like Shady Fox Farms in Solebury, to create some amazing catering menus under Executive Chef John McGrath. The biggest draw of the property, though, continues to be the gorgeous views of the Delaware River from throughout the dining room, bar and patio areas. While the 1740 House has a limited capacity. In the winter, the maximum party size outdoors is 32 people. When we can make use of the patio and outside area, it can go up to as many as 65 people for a cocktail style event. We think the space and staff offer a really exceptional Bucks County experience for small private events,” Luccaro says The 1740 House is a sister property of HollyHedge Estate. Meaning the wedding coordinators at HollyHedge work with the 1740 House to plan all rehearsal dinners and private events. The 1740 House has its own catering staff, and executive chef John McGrath has overseen the recent menu updates. Both properties offer wedding packages that include the cake, ceremony, reception, flowers, and linens. Bridal showers and rehearsal dinners at the 1740 House

Holly Hedge Estate Bed & Breakfast

B

uilt in the 1780s and originally part of the William Penn land grant, HollyHedge Estate is situated on 21 bucolic acres just north of downtown New Hope. The estate’s rustic charm has become a premier Bucks County wedding destination. According to General Manager Tim Luccaro, his family has been committed to preserving the elegance and natural beauty of their 18th-century farm and estate since taking over in 1994. “We are really proud of our historic and environmental stewardship at the estate. We really believe that we are responsible for mitigating the ecological impact of our weddings, and ensuring that the rich history of the property is preserved for future generations,” Luccaro says. His family has refurbished many of the historic buildings, restored the estate’s architectural features, and rejuvenated its land. They have a number of acres of land that were put under cultivation to grow various items that they can use in the preparation of food for weddings and their inn guests. “We are taking farm-to-table and sustainability to a new level. Really striving to be an industry leader in corporate responsibility. The food we can’t grow on site, we try to obtain from local sources,” Luccaro says. The estate has several areas of interest for brides and grooms to utilize during their weddings. There is a classic fieldstone bank barn, which is popular for wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours. “The Old Barn’s” original construction highlights exposed fieldstone and wood beams

with massive vaulted ceilings. Adjacent to it is a classic English garden. On the property there also are two small ornamental ponds, seasonal gardens, wildflower preserves and various historic outbuildings that offer unique backdrops for wedding pictures. A newer pole barn was constructed for receptions in 2002. This space has all of the modern amenities needed for a celebration. The estate’s original manor house has 15 guest rooms. Inn guests are invited to enjoy a full-service breakfast on weekends from Chef Krystal Weaver. HollyHedge Estate has garnered numerous awards over the years including annual Couple’s Choice Awards from Wedding Wire and The Knot. They were recently inducted into The Knot Hall of Fame. The estate can host up to 200 guests for a wedding. Couples have access to their full-time onsite wedding planners. All of the catering at HollyHedge Estate is done in-house. Executive Chef Jose Calderon and Sous Chef David Fry offer a large menu characterized as Nouveau American cuisine with French, Asian, and Spanish influences. Pastry Chef Janine Harrison does all of the baking on site as well. There are several wedding packages as well as completely customizable options. You can contact the wedding coordinators at HollyHedge Estate today to reserve your wedding date or schedule a tour by appointment only. Barley Sheaf Farm

I

magine your guests entering through the large white gates of the estate, past the bronze horses, down the tree-lined country drive. They pull up in the cobblestone paver courtyard beside the bronze fountain in the lotus pond. Staff greet them at their cars, welcoming them to the estate, and escorting them into another world of historic elegance.” This could be part of wedding at The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm according to Owner Mark Frank. The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm is a 300-year-old historic Colonial estate situated on 31acres of conserved woods and meadows. The historic home was once owned by American playwright George S. Kaufman. “Our manor house, gazebo, barns, gardens, pastures, and wildflower fields offer unique and beautiful backdrops for your celebration and photos,” Frank says. The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm was recognized Philadelphia Magazine as one the Best Barn Venues in PA, and by Brides for one of the best venues in PA. In addition, the restaurant at the Inn has been awarded “3 Bells” by noted critic Craig LaBan, as well as being named as one of the top 100 most romantic restaurants in the country for 2 years and one of the Best Places for brunch in the country.

According to Frank, all the details are taken care of for your Wedding Day. There are many locations on the property to hold ceremonies and cocktail hours. Your dining reception can be held in the newly expanded Stonebank Barn—which can accommodate up to 200 guests and in a beautiful tent for weddings over 200. There are 16 suites on the property for those interested in a destination wedding. Don’t forget the important bridal suite for wedding day preparations. Guests also can enjoy spa treatments or breakfast the morning after the wedding. “We offer a number of packages. We can design a wedding for every style, plan, and budget,” Frank says. The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm has its own staff of chefs that use local farms and purveyors for sourcing. Beyond the ceremony and reception, The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm can do the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, a hot air balloon launch, after party with food trucks, or a bonfire gathering complete with marshmallow roasting. The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm is located at 5281 York Road in Holicong. You can schedule a visit to The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm by contacting the Events Manager at 215-794-5104.
