Magic was in the air from Andrew Storm’s slight of hand proposal to Liz Gingrich in New York to the romantic reception at her parents’ farm in Perkasie SPRING 2014

PERHAPS JOHN BECKWITH (ACTOR OWEN WILSON) SAID IT best in the movie Wedding Crashers, “True love is your soul’s recognition of its counterpoint in another.” Elizabeth Gingrich first met Andrew Storm in October 2009 at Professor Thom’s, a New York City bar on the Lower East Side. Over the course of the year, they bumped into each other here and there. The following October, Andrew commented on a Facebook status update, which led to some text messages, then some dates, and ultimately renting an apartment together on the Upper West Side, complete with a Corgi and a Golden Retriever. Andrew was clever in how he proposed to Liz. “A few weeks before the proposal, Andrew insisted that I stay in New York for a show and dinner and not go home to Perkasie to ride my horses. A few days later, Andrew asked me to meet friends at the Waldorf Astoria for drinks. As we were waiting for the friends to arrive, Andrew stepped out to go to the bathroom. When Andrew returned, he had Steve Cohen, The Millionaires’ Magician, with him. Steve Cohen is an amazing magician who performs in his apartment at the Waldorf. One of our first dates was attending a performance. The magician asked if he could pull up a chair and do a few tricks since we were fans of his. His final trick was a coin trick. For the final part of the trick, he involved Andrew. When Andrew opened his hand, there was not a coin, but a 2.3-carat, one-of-a-kind, hand engraved Jack Sutton diamond ring. He then got down on one knee and proposed. But the night did not end there. From the Waldorf, Andrew had a car take us to one of my favorite bars in the City, Imperial No. 9, where my parents, siblings, and closest friends were waiting to surprise us,” Liz says. Liz and Andrew were engaged in March of 2012, and started planning a marriage celebration for June 22, 2013. “I always wanted to get married on my

Top. Liz and Andrew strike a unique pose in the church’s ample windows. Center, the wedding invitations were custom designed by Katzzmcd Designs through Etsy.com to convey a farm formal theme in the couple’s color palette. The bride’s bouquet was by Mark Bryan Designs. parents’ farm in Perkasie. I envisioned a farm-to-table style wedding with tons of flowers everywhere, dancing under the stars, and horses in the background. I love horses, and have been riding hunter/jumpers since I was 5 years old. I still compete in the Tri-State area. I also love Lilly Pulitzer, and wanted to use pink and green as my colors, pulling in the green with more natural flowers, and pink as my main color. For the theme, we chose farm formal, which not only was to help guests determine what they should wear, but more importantly to pull together my whole vision of beautiful flowers and a gorgeous reception, all in the setting of a farm,” Liz says. Liz and Andrew compiled separate element lists and compared the findings. They found they both wanted great food, great music, and for the guests to have a great time. Favors, a wedding cake, videography, a limo, and smaller details were nixed for the band, food, drinks, and shuttles to safely escort guests. Another must was a dayof-wedding coordinator. “Allison Gottberg made the day an absolute breeze. She handled so many little things not just for me, but also for my family and the bridal party. She kept us all on schedule, and made it such an enjoyable day,” Liz says. Liz, Andrew, and 100 of their guests enjoyed a rehearsal dinner at the Joseph Amber Inn in North Wales. Special features included cocktail hour on the patio, and a groom’s cake in the shape of a Corgi, created by Lolly Cake Land of Hellertown. All of the guests and bridal party stayed at the Joseph Amber Inn and used shuttles. Andrew and his groomsmen got ready at the Joseph Amber Inn the morning of the wedding day. Their Vera Wang tuxedos were accentuated with custom Lilly Pulitzer bow ties. Andrew wore cufflinks by Thomas Pink. Liz and her girls prepared at Nancy and Kerry Gingrich’s home in Perkasie. The bridesmaids wore dresses by Kathlin Argiro, a custom dress maker in New York. The sweetheart, knee length dresses were made of pink cotton eyelet fabric similar to a Lilly Pulitzer style. matching thin pink belt added some flair. Liz wore a Jim Hjelm gown from New York’s Kleinfeld Bridal. A New York City dress maker created a custom veil for Liz. Her heels were by Badgley Mischka. For jewelry, Liz wore a diamond tennis bracelet, pearl and diamond earrings, and a blue bracelet borrowed from her mother. “I also wore a blue ring that Andrew’s mother gave me to wear. All of his cousins and all of the women on her side of the family wore it for their wedding,” Liz says. The girls had their hair styled by Duane’s Hair Designs in Souderton, and makeup applied by Make Me Glam of Langhorne. Farm formal invitations created by Katrina Labauch of KatzzmcdDesigns on Etsy invited family and friends to unite on June 22, 2013 at 4 o’clock at Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton. F. Hunter Hess, Lead Pastor, officiated the ceremony. “My mom grew up going to Zion, as did I. The church has a unique C. B. Fisk organ, which my grandfather was involved with commissioning. We had a brass ensemble by Peter S. Neu that played with the organist, Nancy Constanzer. Diane Daly, my horseback-riding trainer of 20-plus years, sang You Raise Me Up during the lighting of the mother’s candle, and The Gift of Love during the ceremony. And my aunt, Mary Lee Slemmer, sang The Daisies during the lighting of the unity candle. The couple exchanged special vows they discovered online:

The Matron of Honor (and bride’s sister) was Amanda Franek. The Best Man was Charles McCarthy. The bridesmaids were Christie Harris, Emily Stokes, Nicole Godley, Melissa McVaugh, Jocelyn Franek, Chelsea Markle, Kristen Scudder, Nina Rao, and Brittany Rush. The groomsmen were George Storm, Christopher Storm, Andrew Gingrich, Remi Poncelet, Josh Spector, Justin Reese, George Mueller, Zachary Hopkins, and Benjamin Phillips. The flower girl was Charlotte Storm, and the ring bearer was Mason Franek. All of the flowers were arranged by Mark Bryan Designs. “My bouquet was big, with lots of soft pinks and some white, in a tight ball. The girls had smaller and a bit looser bouquets with mostly pink and white roses. For the church, Mark used two low wooden troughs that he filled with flowers that spill out over. These

Liz and Andrew selected Hope.Joy.Photography of Yardley for their photography. he reception began at 5 o’clock at the Gingrich farm in Perkasie. “We had a oneand-one-half hour cocktail hour. The signature drink was Dark and Stormy. Since we were having a classic dinner, we wanted to jazz up the cocktail hour. Andrew and I wore cowboy boots for the reception. Andrew is originally from Amarillo, Texas, and I thought the boots fit well with my horseback riding background. Our guests enjoyed a fry station with fried oysters, a shrimp searing station with three sauces, and seared tuna,” Liz says. Jamie Hollander Catering created the cuisine for the reception. For the salad course, there was mixed organic field greens with strawberries, tossed with fresh goat cheese, candied pecans, and herbed Balsamic vinaigrette. For the main course,

guests could pick from pan seared red snapper with creamy risotto, thyme beurre blanc, and spring peas; wild mushroom ravioli served with sautéed forest mushrooms, sage brown butter, and creamy mornay; or roasted prime rib finished with au jus and crispy onions, served with garlic and thyme roasted potatoes and roasted local asparagus with white wine shallot sauce. A table of bite sized desserts, including macaroons, mini cheesecake, and mini chocolate mousse, was placed between the bar and the dance floor for all to enjoy. Mark Bryan Designs designed the floral arrangements for the reception. The Janis Nowlan Band provided the entertainment. Liz and Andrew’s First Dance was Keith Urban’s All For You. A special highlight of the night was a fireworks display for Kerry Storm as Katy Perry’s Firework played. “The evening was amazing. The fireworks. The shooting stars. The Supermoon of 2013. The white lights dotting the landscape. And the weather was perfect: 72 degrees and no humidity,” Liz says. SPRING 2014

The Monday after the wedding, Liz and Andrew went on an almost two-week honeymoon to Budapest, Hungary; Prague, Czech Republic; and Santorini, Greece. Moving ahead to 2014, what are brides in the Delaware Valley looking for? According to Karen Pecora, event designer and co-owner of Philadelphia Event Planners and Mainline Event Planners, there are some interesting trends. “Brides love technology. Create a unique hashtag and spread the word. Picture sharing on social media is a must. Offer a phone charging station with bedazzled phone chargers for your guests’ phones. Use Pinterest to share your style with Mom in another state, your girlfriend overseas, your florist down the street,” Pecora says. There are limitless options in wedding design. “Lighting is everything: images on the ceiling, uplighting on the walls, pin spotting on florals, even a lighted textured wedding aisle. Linens are bringing all glitz and luxury back in style with a sequin or faux fur 138

table overlay or even to the floor. For conservative flowers, branchy centerpieces with lots of lush flowers and a pop of sparkle. Flowers are in excess—large mounds of beautiful fresh cut blooms. For edgy flowers, incorporate statues within centerpieces, rather than just all floral centerpieces. Every table is different, yet the entire room is brought together by a monochromatic or cohesive element/pattern. Candy bars are here to stay, but out with penny and vintage candies. Color coordinated gourmet candy is instead displayed in unique shaped glass vessels,” Pecora says. “For fashion, we still see total romance. Dresses with long wedding veils and gowns with ethereal lace and floral embellishments are romantic and stunning on all body types. Bridesmaids are strutting down the aisle in mismatched dresses and loose styled hair. And 95 percent of our couples are falling in love with the concept of onsite ceremonies. We love showing our clients the benefits of having a ceremony in the round,” Pecora says.

The Knot offers a glitzy national trend for 2014—the all-nighter wedding. This wedding style is inspired by celebrities as well as the runway. When Avril Lavigne married Chad Kroeger in the South of France in 2013, their black tie fairy tale celebration went on for almost four days. Once the reception ends, the party continues. Couples keep the fun going by changing up the style and vibe and moving the party into another room or even an alternate venue. The after-party even has a completely different decor look with couture late night comfort food bites and custom drink pairings. For couples taking this route, transportation must be prearranged for guests. Whether your wedding is an allnighter, very Victorian, or farm formal, it always will be a special day to be treasured for years to come. O

rdering a wedding cake at McCaffrey’s is easy. According to Lori Amenhauser, the cake decorator at the Newtown store, all you have to do is come in and begin a discussion about what you want. If you have seen something in a magazine or elsewhere and have a photo, then bring it in and she can get make it happen. Trends are away from the traditional buttercream cakes and toward cakes with fondant molds and inedible decorations like rhinestones and jewels. Replacing the bride and groom on the top is often a heart or something else, although some do like the traditional decorations. Groom cakes, however, are simpler and tend to have masculine themes like fishing or sports. A dedicated staff of bakers and decorators in the McCaffrey’s stores produce high quality custom baked goods for all occasions.
