YIELD GRADE (YG):
CALVING EASE DIRECT (BW):
CARCASS WEIGHT (CW):
Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.
WEANING WEIGHT (WW):
Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to the age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.
Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio. Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint.
RIBEYE AREA (REA):
Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.
MARBLING (MB):
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW):
Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.
MILK (MK):
The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.
Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.
FEEDER PROFIT INDEX (FPI)
An economic selection index designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on grade and yield. Well ranking sires for FPI have higher marbling and carcass weight than their contemporaries.
GENOMIC ENHANCED EPDs All Bulls in this sale have been DNA-tested to produce genomic enhanced EPDs (GE EPDs). The major benefits of GE EPDs are: risk reduction through improved accuracies, value of time to assess breeding stock at a younger age, increased rate of genetic progress, and obtaining data on economically important traits which are expensive or difficult to measure.

In locating a herd sire, we seek those who deliver on the total package of performance, EPDs, and, most importantly, they must have “the look.” Our leadoff bull, LEGACY, certainly checks those marks and shows the rare promise to be a breed-changing sire. It comes as no surprise that Legacy is a son out of CCRO Carolina Leverage 3214A, the Gelbvieh breed’s first $100,000 Bull (sale/ semen revenue). Just as with Leverage, Legacy’s true separation point is the unique ability to command your attention in the pasture as well as he does on paper.

When we partnered with Coach Mike Ditka, this is the type of Bull that we envisioned Ditka C85 would produce. Dynasty is an embryo calf out of the Donor Dam, JKGF Miss O’Reilly Z096, and certainly has the EPDs, performance, and “the look” to be an AI Sire. Ditka C85 was recently sold to French Farms in Big Clifty, Kentucky (full possession and 2/3 semen interest) for $50,000. Since he sold at the Genetic Power Sale in March 2016, Ditka C85 has generated more than $150,000 in revenue through his initial sale, semen sales, and his recent sale. Dynasty has the potential to carry on and build upon Ditka’s remarkable legacy.

Sired by the legendary Black Impact and a natural calf out of one of our most influential donor females, Post Rock Enjerica 201P2. Purchased in 2010 at the White Brothers Dispersal Sale in Topeka, Kansas, Enjerica has produced our Highest Selling Bull Calf on three (3) separate occasions with her past two bull calves working as herd sires for Simon Wedel (Wedel Cattle) in Albertville, Alabama and Charles Koehn (Circle C Cattle) in Magee, Mississippi. Enjerica calves have a different look from the day they hit the ground – and this calf is no exception – John Henry will change the dynamics of a breeder’s herd in a hurry.

Four (4) Embryos from KCF Miss Fortune U490 and JKGF Ditka C85 In 2017, Kittle Farms was certainly pleased to acquire KCF Miss Fortune U490, one of the most accomplished donor females in the history of the Gelbvieh breed. Miss Fortune was the record selling $20,000 female at the 2014 National Gelbvieh and Balancer Sale in Denver, Colorado. Among her list of superlatives, Miss Fortune’s 2011 son, Bennett Y504, was the high selling bull in the 2012 Knoll Crest Farms Bull Sale and currently serves as the AI qualified resident Balancer herd sire at Knoll Crest Farms in Red House, Virginia. Miss Fortune followed with her 2012 son being the high selling Purebred Gelbvieh Bull to Flying H Genetics (Arapahoe, Nebraska) and Knoll Crest Farms in the 2013 Knoll Crest Farms Bull Sale. Following her purchase by J&K Gelbvieh Farm, Inc. (Ava, Illinois) in the National Sale, Miss Fortune again delivered in the 2016 Genetic Power Bull Sale in Springfield, Missouri. BUILDING A LEGACY Kittle Farms was built upon the dreams, aspirations, and hard work of my father, Johnny Kittle. While there have been cattlemen who managed larger herds and who operated farms for longer periods of time, nobody enjoyed the cattle business as much as Johnny Kittle. Dad got his start in the cattle business as a kid working on his grandparents’ Sand Mountain farm. The cattle market, at that time, was considerably different than the robust market we face today. In fact, Dad often told of his grandparents slaughtering their cattle and selling the beef just to survive in the business. In 1972, at just fourteen years of age, Dad used a government agricultural loan to purchase the first cows in his own operation. Eleven years later, in 1983, he along with my mother, Dana Kittle, purchased a small farm in Geraldine, Alabama where Kittle Farms is now located. My parents continued and built upon his cattle operation for more than 40 years. Outside of his family, there was nothing in this world that gave Dad more enjoyment and that he took more pride in than his cattle. Following his untimely passing in 2014, our family made a commitment to build upon the legacy Dad created in the cattle business. We dedicate this “Building a Legacy” Bull Sale to my Dad, Johnny Kittle, the greatest cattleman I’ve ever known.
