This past week Mallory Mareski, Buddy-to-Buddy Program Assistant, shared some valuable information on VA and community resources for veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. PRESENTATION HIGHLIGHTS: VA Resources for Housing and Homelessness Veteran Community Resource and Referral Center (VCRRC): One stop shop for veterans who are homeless/at risk ofhomelessness to provide information about community-based, multi-agency services topromote permanent housing, health and mental health care, career developmentand access to VA and non-VA benefits. Housing andUrban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUDVASH): providesrental assistance vouchers for privately owned housing to Veterans who areeligible for VA health care services and are experiencing homelessness. Program available to those who are VA eligible and meet definition of homelessness. Read more about that definition here! Non-VA Resources for Housing and Homelessness SupportiveServices for Veteran Families (SSVF) program awards grants to private non-profit organizations andconsumer cooperatives who can provide supportive services to very low-incomeVeteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. Grantees provide eligible Veteran families withoutreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefitssuch as health care services, daily living services, transportation services,legal services, child care services, housing counseling services, etc. Click here to view a list of Michigan SSVF grantees by county Eligibility: (1) Member ofveteran family = veteran must be head of household or spouse of head ofhousehold; (2) "Very lowincome" (household gross annual income does not exceed 50% of area medianincome)--click here to view 2017 AMI table for Michigan; (3) Imminently at-risk of literal homelessness = losing primary nighttimeresidence, have no other residence, do not have sufficient resources/supportnetworks Michigan 2-1-1 is a free, confidential service that connects you with local
community-basedorganizations across the state offering thousands of different programs andservices for people seeking answers. Access by dialing "2-1-1" on your phone. NationalCall Center for Homeless Veterans is a freeand confidential resource available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
