Heroes on the Water is a national charitable organization and is licensed under a 501c3. Michigan chapter was started in 2016 Plan to have 6-8 event in Oakland county state parks To participate you must be a first responder or veteran; verification checks completed with valid ID or DD214. Proven to reduce stress by 56%, hypervigilance by 62%, and avoidance behavior by 63% Served close to 30,000 veterans and their families since 2007. Professional fishermen and kayakers are used, safety briefing and waiver required. Areas of improvement getting help from VA to transport veterans who do not have transportation and increasing the number of veteran participants.

Depth of the water depends on the state park and what is available, safety equipment is available and used for all participants.
