Joins Ffue Prcvention Campaign

San Francisco, July l-The American Red Cross will join in the nation-wide forest fire prevention campaign to call public attention to the seriousness of the fire problems and enlist its cooperation in preventing forest, watershed and range fires, according to joint announcement by S. B. Show, Federal regional forester in San Francisco, and DeWitt Nelson, California state forester, Sacramento. This request for assistance, made by the U. S. Forest Service in behalf of all forest protection agencies, has been approved by the national Red Cross headquarters in Washington, D. C., as a part of its long-rang.e relief program in times of floods, epidemics, fire and other disasters.

Former Lumberman Promoted

Lleutenant .b,. J. La Franchi, USNR, to Lieutenant Commander. He is now land of Samar in the Philippines, and 19th Special Battalion.

Lieut. Commander La Franchi is circles, having been formerly with Oakland.

Revised Lumber Statistics

A new edition of Statistical Summary, just compiled and issued by the Statistical Division of the National Lumber Manufacturers Association contains important revisions of previously published lumber statistics covering the period from l9D to 1944.

Estimates of current and past lumber production, shipments, new orders, unfilled orders, and gross stocks based on mill reports to the regional associations adjusted to statistics published by the Bureau of the Census are included in the publication.
