Lap Swim memberships and fees are valid at both the McCambridge Pool and Verdugo Aquatic Facility. Last day to purchase Summer Membership is July 1. Lap Swim Pass Refund Policy: A $10 refund processing fee will be assessed for each membership refund. A refund will not be issued for any membership with a remaining balance of the membership less than $10. Refunds on memberships are prorated based on the time/amount remaining on the unused portion of the membership.

RECREATIONAL SWIM PROGRAM Verdugo Activity Pool Pre-Sale - Burbank Residents only • Pre-sale will take place from 9 am - 10 am daily for same-day sessions. • Pre-sale purchases are available online only at www.BurbankParks.com. No in-person or over-the-phone purchases • Pre-sale wristbands are required for EVERY person that will be attending the session. • Activity Pool sessions are 2 hours in length. • All pre-sale participants will still be required to pay for general recreational swim admission upon arriving at the facility. • All patrons visiting the activity pool whether on deck and/or in-water must pay for entrance. No exceptions. • No refunds or transfers will be given for pre-sale purchases.

Recreational Swim Refund Policy: Refunds for the activity pool will only be issued in the event the area is closed within the first thirty minutes of the session. A pass will be issued in the event the activity pool is closed after the first thirty minutes and prior to seventy-five minutes of the session start time. Refunds for the 50 meter pool will only be issued in the event the pool is closed within the first hour of the session. A pass will be issued in the event the pool is closed after the first hour and prior to the second hour of the open hours. Closure of the pool after the second hour will not be compensated.

LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASSES SWIM LEVELS

GROUP SWIM LESSONS

If you are unsure what class level to enroll your child in, you may schedule to have your child evaluated by certified Lifeguard Instructors.

Our friendly and experienced instructors provide group swim lessons for ages 3–13 years old, from the beginner to the advanced swimmer. Classes are divided by age group. Preschool levels 1–3 are for children aged 3–6 years old. Youth Levels 1–5 are for children aged 7–13 years old. Please enroll in classes based on the appropriate swim level description and prerequisites. If your child does not meet the minimum requirements of the class every effort will be made to transfer them to the appropriate level. If there are no transfer options available, a refund will be processed and your child will be dropped from the class. All applicable refund fees will apply.

LEARN TO SWIM ADULT LEVELS | Ages 13yrs+ See page 7 NOTE: It is strongly recommended to register for classes that the participant qualifies for. Availability for transfers is based on space and priority. Specific times and locations for transfers are not guaranteed. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled. Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up and the date will be announced in class.

Private and Semi-Private lessons are geared for those that require one-to-one interaction with an instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills outside of a group setting. The objective of this class is to help participants feel comfortable in the water, enjoy the water safely and work towards swimming mastery. Instructors will cater the class objectives to each individual. Progress is based on individual needs and abilities. Please note that class space is limited. Class times are subject to change. Please note that flotation devices (lifejackets, water wings, etc.) are not permitted.

LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASSES LEARN TO SWIM - PARENT & CHILD Parent & Child | Level A The Parent & Child Level A class is designed to introduce young children to an aquatic environment by emphasizing a fun experience in the water. In addition to introductory skills to improve comfort in the water and swimming readiness, safety skills, and cues will also be covered. Parent & Child | Level B With adult supervision and aid, this class will teach children introductory swim and water safety skills similar to our Level 1 course. For children who have had limited exposure to aquatic environments, this class will work on improving skills and comfort in the water. The class is also designed for children who are not quite tall enough for Level 1 but have the ability to learn the same skills. The goal of the class is for the child to learn basic independent swim skills, such as floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression with support. This class requires one-on-one adult supervision at all times. Swim diapers must be worn by children who are not toilet trained. Instructor: Aquatic Staff Verdugo Aquatic Facility

LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASSES Level 3 | JELLYFISH In Level 3, instructors will build on the foundational skills taught in level 2 with the goal of developing fundamental stroke mechanics for improved swimming. Students will begin to learn rotary breathing and to swim longer distances. LEARN TO SWIM - YOUTH Intermediate/Advanced Swimming (Level 4/5) In Intermediate/Advanced Swimming, students will improve technical aspects and refine their strokes. Focus will be on increasing endurance and improving efficiency. New strokes will be taught, such as butterfly, breaststroke, and side stroke, as well as shallow angle dives. Aquatic Cardio Fit

This safe, fun, and effective workout uses water exercises to build muscle and reduce body fat with little or no impact to joints, all done in a heated pool, to fun and energizing music. The water offers a heavier resistance than air, so participants can experience a challenging workout while the buoyancy takes away most or all of the impact to bones and joints! Optional: bring water weights or aquatic fitness gloves to increase resistance, cardiovascular fitness and strength. With upbeat music to keep you motivated, Aquacise is open to all participants ages 15-99+. There is no minimum fitness level required.

AQUATIC FITNESS & SPORTS Swim Team Fundamentals Swim Team Fundamentals will provide additional stroke refinement as well as teach new or young participants the basics necessary to progress to the Youth Swim Team. CLASS REFUND/TRANSFER POLICY • Refund/transfer requests must be received by Parks and Recreation staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second-class meeting. • No refund/transfer will be issued after the second-class meeting. • All refunds will be assessed a $10 processing fee. • For classes/workshops lasting two weeks or less, refund/transfer requests must be received a minimum of five business days prior to the start date of the class/ workshop. • In the event that a session is cancelled by the Parks & Recreation Department, a full refund will be issued. • Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up and the date will be announced in class. Make-up classes will not be offered unless cancelled by the Department. • Medical exemption: In the event that a medical emergency results in a withdrawal, a full refund will be given with valid documentation from an attending physician. Refunds for medical exemptions will be prorated based on the amount of classes attended. Refunds for medical exemptions must be requested within two (2) weeks of the last day of the session. • Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled.

All swimmers should be fully aware of the risks and hazards inherent in participating in aquatic activities including swimming, utilization of diving boards, and use of the activity pool and waterslides. LAP SWIM RULES AND REGULATIONS Lap lanes are designated for organized swimming and exercise and are not to be used for recreational purposes. Recreation swim is not allowed. Participants not actively swimming will be asked to exit the lap lane(s). 1. Participants must be thirteen (13) years or older (with the exception of children who are members of a sanctioned swim team). 2. No standing in the middle of the lane(s). Rest must be taken on the walls, in either corner, not on the center tee. 3. Starting blocks are for competition and sanctioned practices only and are closed to the general public. 4. Professional or private coaching of any kind is not permitted. 5. Swimmers shall not stop on the same side of the pool. 6. Lap swimmers are limited to a 45-minute swim during impacted hours.

1. Permission to use the pool will be granted upon the condition that all swimming pool rules and regulations will be followed. 2. Final interpretation of these rules will be determined by Aquatic Staff. All decisions made by Aquatics Staff are final. All violations and formal appeals will be governed by rules contained within the Facility Rules of Conduct. 3. No one is permitted in the water unless a lifeguard is on duty. This refers to having a lifeguard on deck or in the lifeguard tower assigned the specific duty of observing the pool and its users. 4. Children under the age of seven (7) must be actively supervised in the water by an adult (18 years of age or older), at all times. Limit two (2) children per one (1) adult. Accompanied means holding onto or being within ten (10) feet of the child; parents may not abandon a child in the shallow end of the pool in order to swim in the deep end, dive, or sun bathe on deck. Children under 47 inches tall must be within arm’s reach of a supervising adult at all times. 5. Swim diapers must be worn by infants and children who are under three (3) years old or who are not toilet trained. 6. No foreign objects are allowed in the pool, such as toys, fins, inner tubes, inflatables (including water wings), rocks, weapons, and kick boards. 7. Outside food and drink are prohibited. Ice chests and coolers are prohibited. Individuals bringing in outside food will be asked to either place it in their vehicle, consume items in the park, or dispose of it. 8. Food purchased on site must be consumed in the snack shack area. 9. Personal flotation devices (PFD) in the swimming pool are prohibited unless U.S. Coast Guard approved. This PFD must be clearly labeled as U.S. Coast Guard approved for the weight of the specific user. 10. Deep Water Swim Test: Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) wishing to swim in deep water must submit to and pass a deep-water swim test. This test will be initiated by Aquatics staff. This test must be passed on a per visit basis. The Deep Water Swim Test consists of twenty-five (25) yards of front crawl. Swimmers must display proper form during the entire length of the test. This includes swimming face down, with rotary breathing, and appropriate arm and leg movements. Doggy paddling, sculling, underwater swimming, breaststroke, backstroke, or any other form of swimming are prohibited and are grounds for disqualification.

FACILITY RULES OF CONDUCT We welcome you to our Facility.

In order to maintain the Facility's peaceful atmosphere, facilitate usage, preserve ease of access to equipment and materials, and protect Facility property, we require all visitors to observe the following: • Demonstrate common courtesy to fellow participants, community members, and staff. • Maintain an environment where conflict and differences can be addressed in a respectful manner. • Treat public and private property, City facilities and equipment with courtesy. • Cooperate with City staff in maintaining safety, order, and discipline. • Observe program rules and regulations, follow staff direction, and abide by posted rules at all times.

THE FOLLOWING IS PROHIBITED AT CITY OF BURBANK PARKS & RECREATION FACILITIES: 1. Acts of discrimination and/or verbal, physical, or visual harassment based on any of the following protected characteristics: age, sex, race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, genetic information, marital status, religion, citizenship status, medical condition, military and veteran status, or any disability protected by State or Federal law; 2. Possession of firearms, weapons, and dangerous and/or hazardous materials; (BMC 5-3-804); 3. Possession or usage of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, or reporting to a program under the influence of drugs or alcohol (BMC 5-3-108, BMC 5-3-210, BMC 5-3-211); 4. Smoking (including the use of electronic smoking devices) inside the building. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas outside the building (BMC 4-1-704); 5. Sexual misconduct such as indecent exposure, touching, or harassing patrons or staff); sexual acts of any type; viewing child pornography or exposing a child to any pornography; 6. Conducting personal commercial activities without a City-issued permit, including but not limited to the unauthorized sale or display for sale of goods, tickets or services. This applies to any persons, firm, corporation or charitable organizations engaging in or to attempting to engage in any business, activity or act for financial compensation (BMC 3-3-801.1); or aggressive soliciting in the building, on the grounds or in the parking lot; conducting unauthorized events, demonstrations, or campaigning unless expressly allowed by law; 7. Unauthorized borrowing and/or tampering with another person’s property/belongings; leaving belongings unattended. Consult with front office staff regarding use of the Facility, including room reservations, set up, and use of equipment; 8. Damaging City property. Persons caught breaking, defacing, or destroying property will be required to leave the Facility and may be criminally prosecuted. In the case of minors, the parent or legal guardian of that minor shall be liable for payment of the fine; 9. Disruptive outbursts; use of loud, abusive, profane or threatening language; threatening or harassing behavior towards or around others; making threatening gestures, including prolonged staring at an individual; unwanted touching; or any behavior that could constitute assault; 10. Disruptive cellular phone conversations; the use of electronic devices without headphones or unauthorized use of amplified sound, such as: radios, music players, video games, and computers, that results in discomfort or annoyance to a reasonable person of normal sensitivity; charging personal electronic devices through the use of Facility resources; 11. Animals are not allowed in the Facility, with the exception of service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The owner must be in physical proximity and have full control of the service animal at all times; 12. Persons exhibiting illness, poor personal hygiene, and/or related conditions that may compromise the health of others may be asked to leave the Facility until the condition is remedied. This includes persons wearing scented products strong enough to be disruptive or persons bringing personal items with a foul odor into Facility; continued on next page

13. Commercial photography, videotaping, or recording of any kind without a permit issued by the City; non-commercial photography is permitted within reasonable community standards; 14. Loitering, laundering or preparing food in public restrooms; shaving, showering, or bathing in public restrooms with the exception of Aquatic patrons utilizing the pool locker rooms; sleeping for more than one hour inside a Facility; 15. Improper attire. Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times; 16. Allowing children to be left unattended; 17. Any inappropriate or unsafe behavior creating a disturbance in any manner that interferes with people’s ability to use the Facility or staff’s ability to do their job; any conduct that endangers the life, safety, health and wellbeing of others; 18. Any illegal activities prohibited by local, State and Federal law.

CONSEQUENCES Any violation of these Facility Rules of Conduct or the commission of other illegal conduct in the Facility may be addressed in the following manner:

• Verbal Warning. Notification of violation and reference to the Facility Rules of Conduct; • Immediate eviction from the Facility. Immediate eviction shall mean removal from the Facility, and banishment from any other Parks and Recreation Facility, for the remaining hours of operation for the day of eviction; • Suspension of Facility privileges. Suspension of Facility privileges may include, but is not limited to denial of access to the Facility and all Facility services for one or more days. The effective date and length of suspension shall be determined by the Facility Supervisor, depending upon the scope and severity of the violation, and notice of such suspension shall be made in writing; • Criminal Sanctions or any other remedy available under local, State, or Federal laws. • Permanent Suspension. In extreme cases involving illegal behavior or repeated suspensions with no positive change in behavior, a permanent suspension may result. THE ABOVE REMEDIES MAY BE CUMULATIVELY APPLIED.

APPEAL PROCESS APPEAL OF SUSPENSION. Anyone who has been suspended from the Facility for five or more days may appeal the suspension by submitting a written request within 7 days of the suspension to the Facility Supervisor and/or the Parks and Recreation Department located at: 150 North Third Street Burbank, CA • Appeals shall not be considered for suspension lasting between one and four days. • The written request for appeal should include the reasons for requesting an appeal and contact information. All appeals shall be heard by the Parks and Recreation Director, or a designee, within 7 business days of the receipt of the request. The suspension will be upheld until overturned. The decision of the Parks and Recreation Director, or a designee shall be final.

The Parks & Recreation Director or desginee reserves the right to modify these rules at any time.
