AUGUST UPDATES It’s hard to believe August is already here. If August goes as fast as the previous months, December will be here in no time. Those hot summer days are upon us. Joslyn and Tuttle are great places to cool down. Not only can you stay cool, but we also have great activities taking place daily. There is always room for you. If you thought July was great, we have a lot more planned for August. Dr. Hacopian and Optum are back at Joslyn with another “Doc Talks”. This time Dr. Hacopian will be discussing health maintenance and prevention. Welbe Health will be back for their monthly arts and crafts event at Joslyn. They will be teaching you how to create a knotted blanket. Burbank Recycling Center’s Amy will be discussing the city’s recently launched food scrap collection program. In September, we have James Grey performing some of your favorite Elvis songs plus more. You can find more information on all of these events on our Joslyn & Tuttle Events page. There is a new class coming to the Joslyn Adult Center. Beginner’s Line Dance Workshop will occur on the first Saturday of every month. This is an instructional class that will teach you the steps for the weekly Saturday Line Dancing class at 10:30am. You can find more information below on the new addition. Rock A Hula is making a return! Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 22. We have a new location for the event this year. It will take place at McCambridge Pool. We have some exciting things planned. More details will be coming soon. We hope to see you at one of our events or classes this month!

Did you know that each year over 1/3 of food that is grown in the US goes to waste? Not only are we wasting resources and money, but the majority of wasted food ends up in landfill, causing dangerous levels of methane emissions (a potent greenhouse gas). Food is NOT Trash in nature and together we can solve these problems and reduce food in landfill by moving it from the black cart (trash) to the green cart (organics) for composting. As of July 1st, food scraps are required to go in your green cart along with your yard trimmings! Burbank Recycling Center’s Amy Hammes will be discussing the City of Burbank’s recently launched food scrap collection program, in accordance with the new California law, Senate Bill 1383. SB 1383 is a statewide effort to lower emissions of methane pollutants by reducing statewide disposal of food, both by diverting organic waste from our landfill and rescuing leftover food from businesses for donation.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 23 12:00PM AT JOSLYN RSVP 818.238.5353 Free kitchen pail. Burbank I.D. required. Limit one pail per household.

The clients who have already informed us that they would like to dine at our linch room will receive disposable utensils and sit on disinfected tables (tables and chairs will be cleaned and sanitized before and after service). Clients will be recommended to bring a small cooler during picking up their meals. • Clients who prefer to continue the Grab and Go will recieve their meals and leave the premises. • Each site will have “Reserved” signs on the tables for cliets that would like to dine in. • Only hot, fresh, and frozen will continue to serce to cover the week days at Hybrid meal distribution Model. If we recieve additional funding from LA County, breakfast and weekend frozen meals will be offered to Hybrid Meal distribution.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Keep hydrated-fluid counts for health and nutrition Drinking 8-ounce glasses of water is a good place to start. Fluid needs vary but women need up to 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids daily, and men about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) daily. Adding fruit infused water made with fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs to your daily wellness plan can help boost your immune system, increase energy, aid with digestion, promote weight loss and more.
