NOVEMBER UPDATES

As we move into the holiday months, we are reminded of what we are thankful for. It can be our health, family, friends, and of course, our Veterans. We here at Joslyn and Tuttle are thankful for a wonderful and supportive community. You keep us going and give us the inspiration to want to do more. At Joslyn, we will have a paper cornucopia on a wall in our lobby. We would like for all of you to add something you are grateful for. All you need to do is ask for a post it at the front desk and write down something you are grateful for, no need to add your name. Get your dancing shoes ready! Optum will be sponsoring a 1950’s Sock Hop Dance on November 7. Come and break out your 50’s attire. There will be refreshments, a photo booth, giveaways, and medicare resource info. We hope to see you there.

The holidays can be a challenging time for some. Dr. Haydeh Fakhrabadi will be at Joslyn discussing strategies to recognize and combat feeling of the “holiday blues”.

Do you love indulging in delicious food during the holidays and regret it later? If that’s the case, Dr. Alvin Lewis will be at Joslyn to help you learn more about maintaining healthy eating habits during the holidays. He will even show you how to modify some recipes to make it healthier. We want to thank Optum for sponsoring this presentation.

Since our center will be closed on the last Friday, the T-Shirt Painting class will be moved to Friday, November 18th. Bring a light colored shirt, apron, or canvas bag and give it a little touch of paint. Virginia can help you create something amazing.

On behalf of the Joslyn and Tuttle staff, we would like to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

KUNDALINI CHAIR YOGA WITH CHARLEEN

Mondays at Joslyn 9:00am-10:00am

Kundalini yoga is an ancient yoga that is referred to as the Yoga of Awareness. The asanas are based on moving the Kundalini Energy throughout the spine, enhancing brain function and intuition with movements and breath. This practice includes Reiki Self Healing Energy work as we check in with Self and then move back into balance the mind, body, and spirit. We end with meditation to open our intuitive self and re-wire our brain connections

creating a deep sense of relaxation in our Central Nervous System. This yoga is intuitive and that means “TRUST YOURSELF “. No experience is needed for this class.

National Gratitude Month

National Gratitude Month was started by Stacey Grewal, who believed gratitude to be an essential ingredient of a happy and fulfilling life. Gratitude changes one’s perspective from focusing on the positive rather than the negative aspects in our lives. Gratitude has been proven to generate a positive impact on psychological, physical, and personal wellbeing. Life can get stressful and chaotic. However, practicing gratitude or reflecting on what you are grateful for is an effective way to deal with those moments.

National Gratitude Month Activities

1. Start a gratitude journal

It’s not something you have to buy from the store; just a simple notebook is fine. Write down a few things you are grateful for every day. It could be something as simple as the delicious meals from our Nutrition program, our amazing instructors at the center, or even just the cooler weather. When you look back at all the things you’ve written down in your journal, you will reflect on all the amazing things you’ve been missing out on.

2. Spread gratitude

Share gratitude with other people. Tell them how much you appreciate their services, care, friendship, etc. Tell your favorite exercise instructor how grateful you are to have them at Joslyn. Let them, along with your family and friends, know how grateful you are to have them in your life.

3. Give back to the community

Giving back to the community is a great way to show your gratitude and appreciation. Volunteering in the community is a way to give back. You can do your part by signing up with our Burbank Volunteer Program. There are many opportunities in the city that can use your help.
