The Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center features monthly exhibits showcasing a variety of artists. Artists’ receptions provide an opportunity to meet the artists. Each exhibit is approximately three weeks. Come and enjoy the fabulous shows the gallery has to offer.

GALLERY SHOWS November 3-16, 2017 Burbank Art Association I Opening Reception: November 3, 7– 9pm The Burbank Art Association is a nonprofit volunteer organization serving artists and the community since 1950. Members consist of artists at all stages from beginner to professional level. Although the majority of the members are painters of all types, a variety of visual art mediums and styles are represented. The purpose of the organization is to stimulate and encourage creative expression and provide a showcase for members’ talent.

January 5-25, 2018 Art Instructors’ Exhibit I Opening Reception: January 5, 7– 9pm The Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center will host the “Art Instructors’ Exhibit” showcasing art instructors who teach pottery, painting, jewelry making and weaving. Pottery will include a variety of techniques, featuring functional as well as sculptural forms. Paintings will consist of various media, including watercolor, oils and acrylics. Jewelry will also include various materials and styles.

February 2-22, 2018 Sunny Apinchapong-Yang I Opening Reception: February 2, 7– 9pm Sunny Apinchapong-Yang was born in Thailand to Chinese parents, studied art in the U.S. at Art Center College of Design and California State University, LA; and later studied with the renowned RussianAmerican painter Sergei Bongart. He went on to become Bongart’s assistant at his L.A. school as well as at his summer workshops in Idaho. Apinchapong-Yang has worked for several animation studios like Disney, Dreamworks, Sony Animation and Don Bluth, Apinchapong-Yang is a Signature Member of the California Art Club and a member of the Oil Painters of America.

CULTURAL ARTS FINE ARTS FEDERATION Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center I 818.238.5397 I CACMail@burbankca.gov The Fine Arts Federation (FAF) is a non-profit organization who support arts within the community and is a valued supporter of the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. The FAF helps support the Annual Youth Art Expo, Art Experiences Camp, and art classes and workshops held at the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. Membership includes announcements for monthly gallery shows, opportunity to participate in the annual membership show held in March, and the opportunity to participate in the annual holiday boutique. Membership dues are $25 for individuals, $20 for seniors, and are valid for one calendar year.

The Level 2 program is constructed to give students success with fundamental swimming skills. Students will learn to swim on their front, back, and side using alternating and simultaneous arm and leg action with independent forward progression at least 15 feet from the wall. This course will prepare students for swimming 25 yards across the width of the pool, with the instructor providing aid until the student builds endurance for completing the skill independently.

The Level 1 program is constructed to build introductory swim and water safety skills for participants while promoting comfort and enjoyment in the water. Students will learn to swim on their front and back, including floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression at least 5 feet from the wall. The Level 3 class builds on the skills learned in Level 2, working towards gaining endurance to swim 25 yards continuously using front and back crawl. Students will learn breathing and timing for front and back crawl, as well as introductory leg movements for butterfly and side stroke. AQUATICS TEAMS YOUTH SWIM TEAM The youth swim team focus on honing skills in the freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly. Coaches also teach swimmers appropriate starts and turns for each stroke in a competitive setting. Swimmers will be encouraged to swim in meets throughout the winter. Students must have passed Level 3 or qualify for Level 4. Students must be able to demonstrate 50 continuous yards in both the freestyle and backstroke. YOUTH WATER POLO The Water Polo team is a recreational team where participants are eligible to play in games against other recreational teams throughout the winter season. Daily practices include dry-land work outs, swim sets, and water polo fundamentals training including positioning, passing, and shooting. Students must be able to demonstrate 50 continuous yards in both the freestyle and backstroke and the ability to tread in deep water for 1 minute. Lap swim hours are subject to change without notice. Please check City website for unannounced pool closures. Lap swim hours will be run in conjunction with other programs. Short Course is 25 yards. Long Course is 50 meters. Lap Swim Pass Refund Policy A $10 refund processing fee will be assessed for each pass refund. A refund will not be issued for any pass with a remaining balance of the pass less than $10. Refunds on passes are prorated based on the time/amount remaining on the unused portion of the pass.

SENIOR ACTIVITY CARD 2018 BSAC cards are available at the Joslyn Center for $15 (Burbank residents) and $20 (non-residents). Cardholders receive discounts on programs/classes at select Burbank businesses, and more. Individuals may request a free Activity Card (“AC”) to allow access to our activities, however, they will be required to pay full price for each program/class. Scan your BSAC card when you attend activities or pay for classes/day trips.

WINTER DAY TRIPS 2018

The Joslyn Travel/Recreation Office offers day trips for adults 55 or older. Winter trip registration will begin on Monday, December 12, at 9:00am. Priority numbers will be given out beginning at 8:00am. Trips leave from the Joslyn Adult Center. BRAILLE LOW VISION REHABILITATION VAN This monthly van features a wheelchair lift, LCD televisions for instructional videos, and demonstration areas for the latest low vision devices. Visitors can receive free lowvision rehabilitation consultations, learn more about Braille Institutes’s Library Services, and qualified patrons can sign up to receive talking books. Please bring a referral from your eye doctor. HEARING SCREENING / TELEPHONE PROGRAM When: 4th Wednesday of each month I 9:00-11:00am An Audiologist will examine your ears, check your hearing, and if you have hearing loss, issue a form for a free amplified telephone from the California Telephone Access Program.

The DeBell Golf Club is an 18-hole facility which features 5,608 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 68.9 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Kikuyu grass. Designed by William F. Bell, William H. Johnson and Richard Bigler; the DeBell Golf Club opened in 1959 as a bright, new addition to LA Golf. DeBell Golf Club also offers four clubs to be a part of: The Burbank Men’s Golf Club, The Burbank Senior Men’s Club, The Burbank Women’s Club and The Lady Duffers. For more information on these clubs please contact the Pro Shop for details. This club offers a regulation 18-hole course and a Par-3 course. The regulation course is very tight and hilly making it challenging for the more seasoned golfer yet still enjoyable for the beginners. You will receive a series of 4 one-hour lessons taught by PGA or LPGAProfessionals. These lessons are taught in a maximum of ten juniors per group. For one low price, your youngster will experience all the different aspects of the game. Golf equipment and range balls are included in each class.

If you have ever thought about playing golf, then Get Golf Ready is for you. Whether you are a beginner at golf or returning to the game, the Get Golf Ready Program is designed to teach you in five short lessons. These classes will teach you everything you’ll need to know to step onto a golf course and get out to play with confidence. YOUTH SPORTS YOUTH SPORTS

The Youth Sports Program provides various instructional camps, sports leagues, and special programs throughout the year. Recreational competition is provided for both boys and girls. Teams are coached by volunteers who share their time and talent The City of Burbank is a member of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) which advocates positive and safe sports and activities for children.

YOUTH TEAM REGISTRATION Youth sports league registration is accepted on a “team basis.” Individual players’ names will be added to a Free Agent List. Players’ names are distributed to existing teams expressing an interest in adding new players or to new teams that are forming. For those players not contacted and placed on a team, their parents are required to attend a parent’s meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to recruit new coaches. Staff will make every attempt to recruit coaches for these players, however there is no guarantee of placement on a team. Individual players interested in playing these sports should contact the Sports Office. League

VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED All teams are coached by volunteers looking to make a difference in the lives of children. Volunteers do not have to have a child enrolled in the program. Training and certification is provided.

SCOREKEEPER TRAINING Earn $10 and up per game! The Youth Scorekeeper program is available to youth in 7th grade and above. Scorekeepers are needed for youth baseball (February), softball (February), and basketball (September/October).

YOUTH OFFICIALS TRAINING Earn $14 - $15 per game! The Youth Officials Program is available to youth in 8th grade and above. Youth Officials are used to officiate youth baseball (February), softball (February), and basketball (September/October). Contact the Sports Office for additional information.

ADULT SPORTS ADULT SPORTS The Adult Sports Program offers men and women an opportunity to participate in organized leagues in a recreational setting. Registration is accepted on a “team basis” only. Individuals may put themselves on a player referral list but there is no guarantee of team placement. Divisional classifications range from top-flight play to low-level recreational leagues in a variety of sports. The adult program offers play in basketball, roller hockey, slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball, and volleyball.

REGISTRATION League registration takes place for a two-week period online and at the Sports Office during the regular business hours. Teams may pay to secure their spot with payment online or in the Sports Office, and submit all required paperwork by the end of the registration period. Players may only play for one team per league and may play in multiple leagues. The $25 resident discount applies to teams in which 75% of the team lives or works in Burbank with proof required by registration deadline. Teams registering in the Corporate Coed Slow Pitch league must maintain 66% of players working for one company. Non-resident fee applies to all others. Officials fees are paid in cash by each team at the beginning of each game. Softballs provided. Registration is on a first come first serve basis, and space is limited in each league.

CLASS REGISTRATION INFORMATION GENERAL INFORMATION • • • • • •

All class registration will only be accepted through the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply. Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $10 per person, per class. Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis. All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met. Class schedules are correct up to the date of publication, however may be subject to change without notice. Guests of Enrolled Participants: Permitting classroom visits are at the discretion of the Instructor who has the responsibility to protect the learning environment and develop rules and procedures to maintain a safe classroom setting. Classroom visits are arranged directly with the Instructor under any rules that the Instructor may establish.

REFUND / TRANSFER POLICY The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class (if space is available) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests. • Class lasting 3 or more weeks - A request for refund/ transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting. No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting. • Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks - A request for refund/transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date. • Material/Supply fees are non-refundable. • Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

Jazz and Lyrical Dance Level 7

Bellyrina focuses on learning the basics of bellydance, which is great for developing coordination, concentration, strength and balance, as well as grace and poise. Upbeat choreography and fun use of props, such as veils will be taught. Wear comfortable clothing, and preferably a soft dance shoe, but bare foot is ok.

Painting with Watercolor

This class is for anyone with a love for creativity. We will learn a drawing technique that will simplify and produce beautiful original paintings. Whether this is your first time, or you are already into it and want some guidance, this will prove to be a space for you to practice. Acrylic paints and oils are accepted, all supplies will be discussed at first class.
