Art Experiences is a unique half-day camp that offers a rotating schedule of one-hour workshops comprised of art, dance, music, and theatre. Students will enjoy a variety of visual and performing arts activities designed to enrich, excite, and inspire. Activities will be integrated by a thematic approach, which adds special focus to these exciting experiences. Children are supervised by City staff while specialized instructors offer their expertise in their respective fields. Our staff to child ratio is 1:10. Students must bring their own snack and drink every day, as well as wear closed toed shoes at all times.

Calling all Jr. Campers! Enroll your child in a fun summer camp designed for ages 3.25-5. Our summer camp is a great place for your children to enjoy fun recreational and learning activities in the summer. Activities include arts & crafts, sports, music, science, nature, and special events. Tot Summer Play Daze Camp is a similar version of our popular, sold out Elementary and Middle School camps (minus bus field trips and swimming)! Daily snacks will be provided. Campers will need to bring their lunch each day. This is a drop-off program. Parents are welcome to wait in the center, or outside the classroom. All campers must be potty-trained and able to use the bathroom unassisted. Our staff to child ratio is 1:10.

The Little Rangers Club and the Verdugo Mountain Explorers will participate in nature hikes, crafts, science, experiments and nature activities. Campers will learn a variety of topics with nature and the environment as the main theme. Camp is held at the Stough Canyon Nature Center where campers will learn all about the local animals, plant, maps and much more. Campers will leave with knowledge on hike safety and an understanding of the Verdugo Mountains. Each day campers will learn about something on the trail and work on a related craft and/or activity in the classroom. Our staff to child ratio is 1:10. Campers should bring a full size water, a snack, comfortable clothing and appropriate hiking shoes on a daily basis. Sunscreen and/or hat are highly recommended. All campers must be potty-trained and able to use the restroom unassisted.

LEGAL ADVOCATE SERVICES When: 2nd Thursday of each month I 9:00am-12:00pm A legal representative from Bet Tzedek (House of Justice) Legal Services is available to assist low income individuals, 55 years or older. LIFE CARE PLANNING: ADVANCE DIRECTIVES When: 2nd Friday of each month I 12:30pm Cost: $2 (free with BSAC card) Learn how to complete an Advance Directive for health care and other pertinent forms pertaining to health care wishes. Objective: Water Adjustment In Level 1 instructors focus on encouraging students to be comfortable in the water and teach skills which are fundamental to the swimming process. Skills include: blowing bubbles, putting face in the water, supported floats on front and back, and supported arm and leg actions on front and back.

The Parent & Child Level A class is designed to get young children introduced to an aquatic environment by emphasizing a fun experience in the water. In addition to introductory skills to improve comfort in the water and swimming readiness, safety skills and cues will also be covered. Parent & Child: Level B Prerequisite: None Objective: Water Adjustment With adult supervision and aid, this class will teach children introductory swim and water safety skills similar to our Level 1 course. For children who have had limited exposure to aquatic environments, this class will work on improving skills and comfort in the water. The class is also designed for children who are not quite tall enough for Level 1 but have the ability to learn the same skills. The goal of the class is for the child to learn basic independent swim skills, such as floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression with support. Objective: Private lessons are geared for those that need one-to-one interaction with the instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills outside of a group setting. The objective of this class is to help students feel comfortable in the water, enjoy the water safely, and work towards swimming mastery. Instructors will cater the class material to each individual. There is no skill prerequisite for this course.

Objective: Completion of Level 1 OR the ability to front glide for 2 body lengths + float independently for 3 seconds on back. In Level 2 instructors will focus on preparing students to swim independently by propelling themselves through the water on their front and back using glides, as well as alternating arm and legs actions.

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 5 OR the ability to swim continuously using a combination of front or back crawl for 5 minutes, then tread water immediately after using combined arm and leg action for 5 minutes.

Youth Level 3: Sea Otters Prerequisite: Completion of Level 2 OR the ability to glide on front + back AND swim on front + back for at least 3 body lengths. Maximum Class Size: 8 students Objective: Beginning Stroke Development In Level 3 instructors will build on the foundational skills taught in Level 2 with the goal of developing fundamental stroke mechanics for improved swimming. Students will begin to swim longer distances, learn rotary breathing, elementary backstroke, and treading water.

Maximum Class Size: 40 students Objective: Fundamental Water Polo Skills & Game Strategy The Water Polo team is a recreational team whose main goal is to teach young athletes the fundamental skills of water polo including: positioning, passing, shooting, goalkeeping, and game strategy. Practices consist of dry-land work-outs, swim sets, various water polo drills, and scrimmaging. Athletes may have the opportunity to participate in competitions based on availability. The first day of practice will be reserved for a formal evaluation and parent meeting. Note: classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled. Prerequisite: Completion of Youth Swim Team – Silver Level OR the ability to swim 100 yards continuous freestyle using appropriate turns, 100 yards continuous backstroke using appropriate turns, 25 yards breaststroke, and 25 yards butterfly.

The Youth Swim Team – Gold Level is for young athletes who are interested in competing at the recreational level or who are looking for a more advanced workout. Participants may not hold a USA Swimming card within the past 12 months. The first day of practice will be reserved for a formal evaluation and parent meeting. Note: classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled. Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up and the date will be announced in class.

The Youth Swim Team – Silver Level focuses on honing skills in the freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly. Coaches also teach swimmers appropriate starts and turns for each stroke in preparation for swimming at the competitive level. The Commission extended an open invitation to all artists in the surrounding community to participate in this month long juried “Hidden Jewels” artist showcase. Our goal is to celebrate and promote the City of Burbank as a vibrant and enticing regional arts center. The juried exhibit will include both 2 and 3 dimensional pieces. The Fine Arts Federation (FAF) is a non-profit organization who supports arts within the community and is a valued supporter of the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. The FAF helps support the Annual Youth Art Expo, Art Experiences Camp, and art classes and workshops held at the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center. The DeBell Golf Club is an 18-hole facility which features 5,608 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 68.9 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Kikuyu grass. DeBell Golf Club also offers four clubs to be a part of: The Burbank Men’s Golf Club, The Burbank Senior Men’s Club, The Burbank Women’s Club, and The Lady Duffers. For more information on these clubs please contact the Pro Shop for details. This club offers a regulation 18-hole course and a Par-3 course. The regulation course is very tight and hilly making it challenging for the more seasoned golfer yet still enjoyable for the beginners. All class registration will only be accepted through the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply. Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $10 per person, per class. Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis. All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met. Class schedules may be subject to change without notice. Guests of Enrolled Participants: Permitting classroom visits are at the discretion of the Instructor who has the responsibility to protect the learning environment and develop rules and procedures to maintain a safe classroom setting. Classroom visits are arranged directly with the Instructor under any rules that the Instructor may establish.

REFUND / TRANSFER POLICY The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class (if space is available and is prior to the second class) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • Class lasting 3 or more weeks - A request for refund/ transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting. No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting. • Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks - A request for refund/transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date. • Material/Supply fees are non-refundable. • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests. Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

As you and your child participate in our fun activities together, your child will be developing their large motor skills and socialization skills. Tumbling & trampoline skills are taught using mats and progressions to make learning fun and successful. In-ground foam pit, 30’ long tumbling trampoline and spring floor help those in dance, cheer and other sports learn to flip and fall safely. This free event is designed to provide S.T.E.A.M. and team building opportunities for Burbank residents of all ages while also raising awareness for environmental pollution and waste. Contestants will have the opportunity to design, build, and race their own boats made from recyclable materials at the Verdugo Aquatic Facility.
