OUT OF THIS WORLD AWARD WINNERS

Best in Show TK - 5th Grade - Carter Wardzinski Teacher: Emilie Coyne School: Providencia Elementary

This is a painting that is captivating in its simplicity. The artist uses only three colors: The red sand, orange sky and the gray rover. The Mars rover catches your attention with the big eye. The sand is carefully painted so it resembles sand with plenty of rocks. It gives a feeling of a rover on the go!

Best in Show 6th - 12th Grade - Rain Buchanan Teacher: Jonelle Pickett School: Burbank High School This little statuette is very powerful. It is very delicate and small, so it requires the viewer to look carefully. The deferential posture of the figure, the offering of the crown, and the black color which is surely intentional. It all grabs your heart. The artist has an immaculate technique and understanding of anatomy. Impressive work.

Three Dimensional - TK- 5th Grade - Simone Crist Teacher: Rosanne Longtain School: Washington Elementary

The artist uses many different materials to make the alien world. This is a happy party where everyone is enjoying themselves. The little Earth on a string is a nice touch.

Three Dimensional 6 - 12th Grades - Emily Henschel Teacher: Jonelle Pickett School: Burbank High School This gives a fun but clear message how it is to be a teenager: The angst and worries that comes with it. The technique is very good. The face, hair and all the details are just perfect. A lot of work has gone into this art. Good job!

Photography - Natalie Coughlin Teacher: Joanie Fenstermaker School: Providence High School

This photograph is very good. It has a relaxed but spontaneous feel to it. The black and white is a good choice and lets the background be part of the picture. I like the choice of having the light entering from below.

TK - K Grade - Elise Johnson Teacher: Wyomi Fernando School: Saint Robert Bellarmine Elementary

A bright and eye catching painting. It is cleverly executed with the rocket soaring through colorful dots instead of dark space.

1st Grade - Bob Watson Teacher: Emilie Coyne School: Providencia Elementary

A fun painting with lots of action. The artist has a good control of the brush and colors. The colorful and detailed hermit crab gives the scene its focal point.

2nd Grade - Sydney Oomens Teacher: Joy Rostomyan School: Jefferson Elementary The artist’s peacock has lots of expression in its face. The soft colors of the artwork enhances the nice linework.

3rd Grade Abigail Criswell Teacher: Kristina Albarian School: Washington Elementary With few colors and lines, this little artwork shows the emotions of the little girl. The artist has a good control of the digital art media.

4th Grade Elin Sepanian Teacher: Lisa Carr School: Emerson Elementary This artwork is original and well done. It is full of details, the more you look, the more there is to find. A fun and engaging drawing.

5th Grade - Mathew Araujo Teacher: Marie Coyne School: Providencia Elementary

The art is well planned and executed. The artist manages to include many colors and still keep it balanced. It has a selection of unusual colors, which makes it interesting.

6th Grade Mia Sondag Teacher: Mina Ho School: Luther Middle School

The artist captures the dog’s personality perfectly. The work is impeccable. The shading technique in the white areas is very good.

7th Grade - Emily Robinson Teacher: Rebecca Platner School: Luther Middle School The artist’s coloring technique interests me. The vibrancy of the stars or nebulas are great.

8th Grade - Lizeth Barajas Aparacio Teacher: Tamara Fiola-Rini School: Dolores Huerta Middle School

This painting has a wonderful feeling of movement. The artist uses few simple colors, and fills the canvas with flowing grass and dancing fireflies. Simple but elegant.

9th Grade - Gabrielle Fleury Teacher: Dena Williams School: John Burroughs High School

Excellent composition and linework. The balance of colors is good. I like how the warm colors of the background travel into the dresses. The multicultural statement and hopeful feeling completes the picture very well.

10th Grade - Hannah Shavit-Weiner

School: John Burroughs High School This landscape is split into two canvases. Interesting. Good quality of brushwork. The painting is well composed. The forest has a real sense of depth, and the waterfall feels like it is flowing. Good work.

11th Grade - Sosie Berg Teacher: Pamela Zimny School: John Burroughs High School This is an eye-catching and intriguing drawing. Very good work with colored pencils. The composition is fun. Is the face disappearing into the nebula or coming out of it?

12th Grade - Uliana Kmit Teacher: Jonelle Pickett School: Burbank High School

The artist has a fantastic control of the media, ink. The composition is well planned and executed with a powerful message
