collectors and enthusiasts looking for drawings on the London Art Week gallery trail can expect to find a broad selection of high-calibre works spanning many centuries. Some dealers will assemble a selection of stock drawings with outstanding highlights while others will present themed exhibitions. decorative art shown at London Art Week will include exceptional objects, some in themed exhibitions, while some galleries have relocated. Trinity Fine Art will be showing a fine selection of European sculpture, paintings and drawings in their new Bond Street gallery. To mark the opening of a new gallery space in St James’s, Tomasso Brothers Fine Art will be welcoming visitors to the exhibition Canova and his legacy. Important old master sculpture will be with Benjamin Proust Fine Art Ltd and the Daniel Katz Gallery, appropriately in the centenary year of Rodin’s death, will be staging The Romantics to Rodin. As always, the works of art category contains the biggest diversity of objects in terms of date and geography. Ancient works will be available at Ariadne Galleries (Ancient Greek Vases and Fragments), Oliver Forge & Brendan Lynch (The Ancient World – From Mesopotamia to Coptic Egypt) and Rupert Wace Ancient Art (launching a new catalogue). Raccanello Leprince will be showing early European pottery alongside contemporary sculpture in the show Shadows of the past. Continental decorative arts will be offered by Burzio and Brun Fine Art, while devotees of arms and armour will find exceptional pieces at the Duke Street emporium of Peter Finer.

MASTERPIECE LONDON 2017 South Grounds, The Royal Hospital Chelsea, London
SW3
| 29th June – 5th July 2017 | www.masterpiecefair.com
of Masterpiece London will see 150 international galleries assembled in a purpose-built structure in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Works ranging in period from prehistory to modern and contemporary will be offered for sale. The philosophy of the fair is to offer a fusion of old and new objects that are not grouped together by dealer specialism. By interspersing fine art with decorative pieces and luxury design the intention is to encourage ‘crosscollecting’. Notably absent from the fair this year are exhibitors in the luxury category of cars, motorcycles and boats.
THE EIGHTH EDITION
Important old-master paintings, drawings and sculpture will be for sale with several dealers including Sarti Gallery, Robilant + Voena and De Jonchheere. The last will be showing the masterly Still life with an overturned basket of flowers by Johannes Bosschaert. Modern and contemporary art overwhelmingly form the largest share of the stands this year, reflecting current buying tastes. Those looking for art by household names will be delighted by the inclusion of works by Vincent van Gogh, Juan Gris, Pierre Bonnard and Pablo Picasso to name but a few.
Proserpine, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828–1882). 1878. Watercolour with bodycolour on paper mounted on wood, 77.5 by 37.5 cm. AGNEWS, LONDON
As well as a wide range of continental decorative arts, there will be a strong representation of 18th- and 19th-century English furniture shown by a cohort of thirteen London-based dealers including Mallett, H. Blairman & Sons Ltd, and Ronald Phillips. Antiquities, ceramics, modern furniture, Asian art, clocks and jewellery will also be well represented. There will be plenty on offer for seekers of contemporary art and design. Newly created jewellery will be available on the stand of Boghossian and large-scale works of art and sculptural furniture will be presented by a team of artists and designers under the banner of Based Upon. A new feature of the fair will be Masterpiece Presents, whereby an exhibition space at the fair’s entrance will host a site-specific installation. This year’s artist is Iván Navarro.
