MASTER DRAWINGS NEW YORK 2019 26 January – 2 February 2019 T H I S A N N U A L E V E N T , which is timed to coincide with the important New Year auctions, takes place in gallery spaces across the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Earlier incarnations of the fixture exclusively showcased drawings but over recent years it has evolved to include sculpture and paintings.
Thirty resident and visiting dealers will offer works spanning seven centuries from a multitude of international art movements and disciplines. While certain individual pieces will warrant special attention, other presentations will have a curated element and emphasise a particular theme or artist.

Colnaghi and Artur Ramon will offer: Spanish Master Drawings: from Cano to Picasso while Galerie J. Kugel will stage: Portraits from the French Renaissance; Paintings, Drawings, Enamels and Sculptures. More fine sculpture including Renaissance bronzes, nineteenth-century terracottas and twentieth-century pieces will be offered by several specialist dealers including Tomasso Brothers Fine Art, Stuart Lochhead and Benjamin Proust. Robert Simon Fine Art will be showing new work by Anthony Baus together with old-master drawings, while Latin American Master Drawings will be the theme at the Leon Tovar Gallery. Also of note is an exhibition of works on paper and paintings by French nineteenth-century painter Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, which will be on view at the Michael Werner Gallery. In tandem with Master Drawings New York will be a loan exhibition from the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, at the gallery of Carlton Hobbs. Entitled Figure/Study, the exhibition will feature drawings by masters including Abraham Bloemaert, JeanHonoré Fragonard, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Pablo Picasso. We are pleased to announce The Burlington Magazine scholarship for the study of French 18th-century fine and decorative art 2019.
The scholarship provides funding over a 12-month period to those engaged in the study of French 18th-century fine and decorative art to enable them to develop new ideas and research that will contribute to this field of art historical study.
Applicants must be studying, or intending to study, for an MA, PhD, post-doctoral or independent research in the field of French 18th-century fine and decorative arts within the 12-month period the funding is given. Applications are open to scholars from any country.
A grant of £10,000 will be awarded to the successful applicant.
