A provincial government task force aimed at improving tenancy laws may not be enough to protect renters in Metrotown, advocates say. B.C. Premier John Horgan announced the rental housing task force earlier this month. It will be headed up by Vancouver-West End MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert with a mandate to review existing rental laws and how they apply to different housing models, and how other jurisdictions have addressed similar housing issues. The group will consult with the public, including landlords and tenants, on their experiences with tenancy laws and the rental industry, and look at improving security and fairness for renters and landlords with a focus on affordability. But Zoe Luba, with the Alliance Against Displacement and Stop Demovictions Burnaby, thinks the government should only be listening to Continued on page 4

Homicide investigators have released a criminal profile of the person believed to have killed Burnaby teenager Marrisa Shen. Shen was reported missing by her family on July 18, 2017 and was later found dead in Burnaby’s Central Park. Police deemed her death to be a random

killing. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now consulted with the RCMP behavioural sciences group to develop a criminal profile of the person believed to be responsible for Shen’s death. They believe the killer may have lived near Central Park and may have demonstrated any of the following behaviours after Shen’s death: they may have unexpected-
