November 2018 - March 2019 The ‘Reaching New Levels’ Coaching Programme in association with The Performance Lab, provides opportunities for coaches, volunteers, leaders and officials to attain additional and/or new qualifications

Safeguarding / Child Protection 12th November Mid Ulster Sports Arena From: 6.30 – 9.30pm Cost: £10 Book via: attached form

This session will cover the basic maintenance, and usage information that is essential to ensuring the maximum effectiveness of an AED in the event of an out of hospital cardiac arrest, and maximise the chances of survival within the first vital minutes afterwards. Community based defibrillators have proven to be essential in areas where immediate paramedic intervention or ambulance response may be restricted.

This workshop aims to raise awareness of Child Protection issues in sport, it is particularly recommended for Coaches, Volunteers Leaders, Administrators and Officials.

First Aid 13th January Greenvale Leisure Centre From: 10am – 4pm Cost: £25 Book via: attached form By the end of this course candidates will be aware of the following: • Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) • Treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure) • Wounds and bleeding • Shock • Minor injuries • Choking • Preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions using the use of available equipment

*A First Aid Kit will be given to all those completing the course.

Field Sports Periodisation. Reducing Injury and Improving Performance 17th January Cookstown Leisure Centre From: 6.30 – 9.30pm Cost: £10 Book via: attached form Periodisation is a sports science method which allows coaches to develop and maximize the physical preparation of their players throughout a season. Using the latest research from our four local big field-sport games; Gaelic games, Hockey, Rugby and Football, the presenter will

The workshop will include; • On and off field fitness testing, Why you should test and what does it means? • Off season and Pre season programming and planning • The use of small and large sided games to develop game specific fitness. • On pitch speed and acceleration development through games • How to avoid fatigue and ensure long term fitness development • How effective planning and programming can reduce your teams injury risk.

Fundamentals of Coaching Hockey 27th January Meadowbank Sports Arena From: 9am – 4pm Cost: £50 Book via: link below: http://register.ulsterhockey. com/fundamentals_of_ coaching_hockey_course_for_ volunteers_27012019 This course is designed to be an introduction to hockey coaching for volunteers and parents.


Whilst still paying heed to the skills required to be taught to beginners the course will also look at the delivery and organisation of a coaching session. The course specifically looks at the coaching needs of those with a limited background in hockey who may also require additional coaching skills to impart their knowledge. The Fundamentals course is the first course in the hockey coaching pathway and is one of the requirements for candidates wishing to progress to Level 1 and onwards. The course focuses on delivering basic hockey skills to beginners and learners. The course will also focus on the way children learn sports reinforcing the Hockey Ireland coaching ethos of ‘we hear we forget’, we see we understand, we do we learn’.

Sports Performance Analysis 7th March Cookstown Leisure Centre From: 6.30 – 9.30pm Cost: £10 Book via: attached form Delivered by: Johnny Bradley Performance Analysis is a specialist discipline involving systematic observations to enhance performance and improve decision making, primarily delivered through the provision of objective data and visual feedback. Performance Analysis is driven by a need to understand and improve tactics, technique, and movement, achieved through the delivery of real and lapsed time objective feedback. This workshop will outline how best to use performance analysis within an applied setting, how to integrate technology innovations into the coaching environment and most importantly how to use performance analysis to make a performance impact. The course will be delivered by Johnny Bradley, a highly experienced performance analyst who


has worked with elite athletes at numerous major championships. Johnny was Performance Analyst at the Sports Institute Northern Ireland for 10 years before moving to work as a lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis at Institute of Technology in Carlow. He has provided support to elite athletes from a wide range of sports including hockey, triathlon, rugby union, gaelic football, hurling, netball and swimming.

Designated Safeguarding Children’s Officer Training 11th March Cookstown Leisure Centre From: 6.30 – 9.30pm Cost: £10 Book via: attached form This training is for anyone responsible with receiving concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people. Recommended for Coaches, Leaders, Administrators and Officials.
