The Great Big Donco! 2
This year we’re delighted to work with new partners as part of the St. Leger Festival week and as part of the Without Walls Associate Touring Network – which means we can bring high quality touring outdoor performances to Doncaster town centre.
The DNweekeND this year kicks off with our locallymade Yorkshire Festival commission The Great Big Donco – hear stories told through spoken word and song about the myth behind this fabulous giant local creature and see it come to life before your eyes. The DNweekeND offers a wide range of performances throughout the weekend across our three venues. Be entertained by street theatre, dance, circus and local music in the Market of Marvels. Enter fun and intriguing worlds in the Village of Dreams, be taken on spoken word tours and hear choir performances in the House of Sound. The DNweekeND seeks to create a fun and entertaining environment where we celebrate local, international and culturally diverse voices. We also want to show off Doncaster town centre, its historic (and not so historic) architecture, its new developments and local businesses. DNweekeND has been programmed by a range of local people as part of Right Up Our Street – creating public events and activities across the borough throughout the year. We hope you enjoy the weekend. Set to a pounding electro-acoustic score, TROLLEYS will tease, thrill and move its audience. You’ll never go shopping in the same way again.

And on very special occasions, they may be persuaded to let their hair down and demonstrate some unrivalled disco moves to their favourite modern music. Plunge Boom // Smoke Market of Marvels/Baxtergate // Sun 12pm and 3pm Walkabout A man sits still amidst members of the public. Gradually, smoke begins to creep from out of his trouser leg. He crosses his legs and the smoke stops. Next it arises from his collar, then his sleeves. All the while he acknowledges this with a weary resignation, but what starts as a wisp ends up as an inevitable billow. Smoke is a visual, non-verbal show that offers an abstract, gently comic & understated physical performance. It begins as a meandering walkabout of public interactions before becoming an unstoppable plumage.
Gandini Juggling // 8 Songs Market of Marvels // Sun 11am and 2pm Juggling A series of choreographed juggling vignettes set to 8 classic rock and roll songs. A tribute to the mythical landscape of popular music.
