WATLINGGlobally, people are averaging nearly seven hours of screen time per day. QC Terme is the Italian spa, resort, and wellness brand encouraging you to disconnect.
With 12 facilities across Europe and in New York, USA, the family business has developed a wellness-driven, aesthetically beautiful, and sustainable offering to the health and wellness space.
CEO, Andrea Quadrio Curzio discusses with Business Enquire the unique QC Termemilano Wellness centre, as well as the business plans for the future.
Discovery, Knowledge, And Play
Milan is a busy, up-and-coming tourist destination, rivalling its Italian competitors for footfall such as Rome, Venice and Lake Garda.
Visitors can lose hours in Milan, from stepping on to Duomo Square to take in the breathtaking, 600-year-old gothic cathedral, to shopping until you drop in Quadrilatero d’Oro. So, you may just need some time to relax and recuperate.
There’s no better place to do so than the QC Termemilano Wellness Centre, which offers over 30 different wellness practices.
Located in the heart of Milan in Porta Romana, the facility is found in an art nouveau complex, where elegant architecture blends with technology.
“QC Termemilano is built on discovery, knowledge and play,” shared Andrea. The facilities in Milan include a water and salt room, which utilises the relaxing effects of a marine microclimate, as well as a bio-sauna inspired by Milan’s historic hay quarter, featuring a balsamic, relaxing fragrance.
Ensuring it embraces technology in a beneficial way, the QC Termemilano offers a multi-sensory treatment room in its Monte Tabor room, as well as Cinema Pool -where guests can immerse themselves whilst being captivated by endless projections running above, bringing to life the most evocative scenes.
And whilst guests may have experienced something similar, you will be hard pressed to find a rival for the wellness centre’s Porta Romana tram bio-sauna. That’s right, a sauna inside a historic Ventotto tram carriage.
For those wanting some fresh air, QC Termemilano’s facilities expand to the outside, too.
Guests can take a scenic walk along the Darsena Garden, the architecture of which follows the contour of the Spanish walls in which the QC Termemilano is inside. “Our outdoor ‘thousand blue bubble pool’ is encompassed with glass walls to reveal the Ancient Spanish walls, it’s a really unique and beautiful experience,” explained Andrea.
And once your feet are suitably rested, challenge your soles to a walk along Carrara stones, fir cones, volcanic lava stones and bark, to reactivate your blood circulation and inspire a feeling of wellness throughout your body.
Mill with the Milanese
With such a vast, premium, offering for its guests, it’s easy to see how the QC Termemilano has risen in popularity.
“When creating the centre we used the building’s surroundings such as the Spanish Wall and the landscape as an asset, to create a fully immersive experience,” shared Andrea, “I think one of the reasons the wellness centre has been successful is because of the encompassed feeling created by the walls”.
Of its guests, 40% visit thanks to a gifted experience to celebrate events such as birthdays and anniversaries. 93% will bring a guest along with them.
Whilst traditionally the facility was used by the Milanese, Andrea now sees opportunity within the tourism sector. “With up-coming events like the 2026 Olympic Games, and being situated so close to the alps, we are forecasting increased uptake by tourists,” he said.
Wellbeing for You and the Planet
Whilst you focus on taking care of yourself, QC Termemilano and the wider QC Terme group will take care of the environment.
QC Terme has made significant investment in sustainable measures across its venues, including QC Termemilano. “We’ve implemented small changes in our day-to-day that can make a big difference. This includes reducing waste water by reusing it in our heat pumps and for plants,” explained Andrea.
The brand has also designed a collection of disposable products that are fully biodegradable.
“We are providing some wellbeing for mother nature too, making our planet a more hospitable place for us and for generations to come,” he continued.
Collaborating with Colleagues
Whilst the attraction for guests to QC Termemilano is obvious, what about its staff?
Firstly, Andrea and his leadership team refer to colleagues as “collaborators”, which gives a clear indication of approach.
“Prior to establishing QC Terme, I was a lawyer, a far cry from this industry. So, I consider my colleagues as collaborators. Everyone has the opportunity to present ideas and have them listened to, and I learn a lot from them,” he said.
According to the Milan Tourism board, the Milan Metropolitan Area saw an increase in tourist footfall by 4.4% to 17.6 million in 2022, compared to prepandemic figures. Meanwhile, the wellness sector also saw a considerable boom post-pandemic.
This combination means there is a fantastic potential for QC Termemilano and its staff for longevity.
“With tourism being a key sector in Milan, a lot of jobs are seasonal,” said Andrea, “we give the opportunity for long-term careers, which are stable and growing”.
QC Terme is seeing growth opportunities in other regions too. Recently, it opened its QC Termegarda in Lake Garda. The resort and wellness centre draws inspiration from its 15th-century building and offers its own unique set of treatment areas.
Additionally, the business is currently in phase two of developing QCNY, its spa based in New York, USA. The development will see the facility double in size.
Ensuring tranquility and wellness from the offset, guests of QCNY even have access to a spa-only ferry from Manhattan.
Expanding over the border, QC Terme is working on the launch of its latest wellness venue in Pontresina, Switzerland, too.
“The new venue is very exciting. There is the opportunity to add some hotel rooms at this spa, so will extend our hospitality offering,” shared Andrea.
QC Terme, Andrea and his colleagues pride themselves on bringing an exceptional quality of life to guests.
“It’s a privilege for us at QC Terme to be able to provide this to customers, and it’s fantastic that our collaborators come to work driven to bring value,” he said.
