Aimlessness

aimlessness

In youth we often found ourselves at loose ends, wandering neighbourhoods without plan or goal. A lack of ready cash and direction would ensure our own devices and concerns were primarily what occupied us.

This project seeks to remind us of those times we spent alone and how this presents itself in different people – and at differing times. Think of it as a catalogue of basic human activity lacking direction.

three simple questions We asked all six guys in aimlessness the same things...

3

Where would you most like to wander aimlessly?

In my free time I like going to the gym, conducting psycho-physics research and reading into evolutionary psychology. I’m a massive fan of m-theory too. The last time I wandered around aimlessly was last night, I was walking around Leeds at 3am. Something happened. I want to fly aimlessly over the Atlantic ocean – I’m betting there’s more than water out there!

I don’t really have all that much free time between my jobs - my second job combines business with pleasure and involves photography - me wandering through a crowd looking for a target. Aimlessness isn’t really my thing - the nearest I recall is pacing up and down waiting for a mate who’d promised me a lift; I think he thought we was onto a good thing with a girl he met! Getting time to be aimless is a bit of a dream itself maybe when I’ve earned my fortune!

Tell us about the last time you wandered aimlessly

What do you like to do when you have free time?

I go to the gym, have a lot of family time or just write and record my own music. It was a field, I walked around it just to think! I used to always play around that area as a kid and it brought back a lot of memories, so it was a happy place to think. I’d love to walk around New York City, just to see what happens and what I see, I think it would be a great experience.

I either train at my local gym, study martial arts or rock climb – basically anything to get the adrenalin pumping. I don’t usually have the time! But on a run to my local country park, I saw a boy come off his bike face first onto the ground. Being first aid trained I knew what to do so sorted him out and took him home. After all that I had no energy to continue on my run. The Playboy Mansion, think of the sights! ;) on a more realistic note it would have to be a nice sunny beach in the Bahamas.

Chillin’ out, watching tv or films, driving or spending time with friends on nights out. It was in the city centre I had an hair appointment and had spare time on the parking ticket so I went to browse knowing that i had no money – even if i did see anything I liked lol. Otley Chevin. Although I am scared of heights there are lovely views and it’s spectacular to see the sunset. I hope to stroll a whole stretch of a hidden beach in California as the sun sets and to stay to see it rise in the morning.

Tattoos, shopping, drinking Doncaster - in the Frenchgate Centre doing some hung-over crimbo (Christmas) shopping. Megan Fox’s garden! – for obvious reasons.

so – when did you last wander aimlessly?

Ever taken the time to just wander aimlessly and see where your thoughts take you? Watch six guys meander through different environments as captured by photographer, Jon Eland, around West Yorkshire (UK)
