MIKAYLA EATON ’19 ALUMNI PROFILES

Butler wasn’t on Mikayla Eaton’s radar until the winter of her senior year of high school when she heard about the University from a friend and decided to come for a campus tour. “As cliche as it sounds, I fell in love with Butler halfway through the tour. I could picture myself there for the next four years, and that’s when I knew I had to enroll.” As a Marketing major with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Eaton served as the CEO for two student-run businesses through the Lacy School of Business’ First-Year Business Experience and Real Business Experience. “I had the opportunity to develop leadership, sales, and presentation skills that set me up for real-life business scenarios.” Her experiential learning opportunities didn’t stop there. Eaton also completed a sales co-op with Johnson & Johnson in Chicago during the fall semester of her senior year. While there, she helped develop and launch digital microsites for Walgreens Beauty Advisors, created sales dashboards, and analyzed data to build sales stories. Eaton earned a full-time job offer with Johnson & Johnson during her senior year after finishing her co-op. She now lives in Chicago and works as a sales analyst for the company’s top consumer brands: Neutrogena, Aveeno, Listerine, and Johnson’s Baby.

“I have so many memorable experiences from my time at Butler, and it really does fly by so quickly. I tried to take every opportunity I was given, and know that all of it—my experiences in the Lacy School of Business, my involvement in various student organizations, and even all-night study sessions with my best friends—contributed to my success post-graduation.”

NICK HUANG ’18

Nick Huang decided on Butler, due to its emphasis on experiential education and real-world experience. “The fact that I could take an internship early on in my academic career was a game changer for me,” he says. Huang completed five internships during his time at Butler, including participating in the Butler in Asia summer internship program and interning with a senator in Washington, DC. He also studied abroad in Southern Africa through Butler’s Global Adventures in the Liberal Arts program. Those domestic and global experiences prompted Huang to research and pursue the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, an extremely competitive program that funds American citizens to study, conduct research, or teach English abroad. After a lengthy interview process, Huang was awarded the Fulbright and served as an English teacher in Macao. After finishing his Fulbright experience, Huang moved back to the States and secured a job at Google as a Product Manager, where he helps develop features for Google Voice Assistant.

“I can’t tell you the number of courses I had at Butler that required me to get in front of class and present, speak to large audiences, or collaborate and problem-solve with different people. Butler’s emphasis on teaching those soft skills—along with its focus on experiential learning and a true global education—has really made the biggest difference in my career.”
