Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have a dream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just that. A dream. Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case.
My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content... She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true. Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty. Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen.

Narrative Essay About Having A Dream
What is globalization? It can be simply defined as worldwide integration and development, but if asked to be defined by the world's citizens it's simply referred to as conflict. As you continue to read further, you will see how globalization and the north– south global divide play a key role in our nation's economy. From the wars on European soil and increasing poverty in Africa, to the booming technological abilities in Japan, this one word will be an understatement to all things to come. I'll explain how the global divide started and how globalization plays a key role in the world's own destructive nature. As the gap between the two divides grows further and further apart, the one question still remains; could this gap ever be closed?...show more content...
These allies who fought with one another became sworn enemies for world supremacy based on their political ideologies and intense urge for national interest and global power.
The Cold War was the cradle to two nations savagely competing with one another for hegemony over other countries and military preparedness. During the years between the Renaissance and the industrial Revolution, the Americas, Africa and Asia were colonized by the Europeans. After freeing itself from the British's grip, the pioneering spirit of its immigrants and immeasurable natural resources gave the U.S the democratic future it has today. By the middle of the 20th century, United States had collaborated with the European industrialization and overtook the rest of the world. Independent Latin American countries were plagued with internal conflicts and military dictatorships like Brazil, which isolated them from the rest of the world.
The "north" divide didn't stop with just the exception of the United States economic growth, but with the remaining countries of the northern hemisphere also including Australia and New Zealand. The countries showed the world that they could grow in population, wealth, and GNI. The "south" on the other hand, comprised of weaker countries whose claims to development lingered in comparison. Volleyball, one of the world's greatest sports. From the hot and muggy gym, to sweat dripping down each players face, volleyball is not for the faint of heart. This sport requires a single–minded desire: to win. It takes more than just teamwork to win. Volleyball has always been one of my favorite sports. I would always meet a new friend anywhere I would go. Believe it or not these situations are how you could meet your life long best friends.
One day when I was in fifth grade, my volleyball team traveled to Trinity Clinton Township to oppose them in a volleyballgame. They had the brightest gym in the universe! Playing volleyball there was like trying to play inside the sun. Everyone was more focused on the sun in their eyes than...show more content...
The water had spilt everywhere on the gym floor. I was so embarrassed, but luckily the other team was kind enough to help me clean up all the water I had spilt. I made a couple of jokes by comparing the big spill I made to "the flood on Noah's Ark," I somehow managed to make everyone around me laugh. I made a lot of new friends that day all due to a simple act of kindness towards others.
As my heart grew for the love of volleyball, I took my talents to harder competition, Great Lakes at the end of my sixth–grade season. This is a very well–known team and they are very superior at volleyball. That was one of the scariest tryouts I have ever attended because there were over three hundred girls trying out for the volleyball team! The first thing everyone was tested on was "hitting". Every girl got in a line and tried their best to hit the ball over the net. Well, I was still in sixth grade at the time along with many other girls and most of us were all still fairly short. I was the next girl in line to hit, I had butterflies in my stomach like no other. I walked up to the ten–foot line and did my approach. Boom! The ball goes screaming over the net! I never knew I had such great power in my arm. Next up in line was the girl behind me her name was Megan, she was also short. Megan goes up to the line and swung at the ball but missed. The girls in the gym were laughing at her because the ball went under the net instead of going over. Suddenly Get

Dystopian Setting
The city that once had homed thousands and been the most economically successful country ever, was now a contaminated wasteland. The land looked dry, destroyed and lonely. The morning breeze felt like crying sorrows, and the grey deceitful sky awed down at us. In the deepest corner of despair lies dystopia where hope dies. As someone looks through the eyes of the devil, they see his utopia. Only visible by the dim light of the moon was the great wall. Beyond the wall? No one knew. Stretching away from the wall was a humongous bridge that towered the wall. Standing tall on the bridge was a tower, which had two circles that almost looked like eyes. Those mysterious, creepy and dangerous looking eyes stared down at the city giving away a haunting look.
The reek of death hangs in the air throughout the land. Filling the mouths of those who lived in this abandoned land was the taste of burnt garlic. The screams and cries of terror undistinguishable between beast and human fill the ears of the last ones living. The sky, which was lit by the glow of fires, is grey and empty. As I carried on walking, I noticed that the small fraction of light was getting smaller and smaller, until it had been engulfed into a think black ash like smoke. Aggressively, the wind walked past the building with its cruddy feeling, blowing away all signs of life. Deeper and deeper into the land was a burning car door. The fire roared and crackled. The roaring and crackling of the burning car door merged with the aggressive air and created the loudest sounds ever heard on land. Growing darker, the skies made me feel nauseous. The fear of not waking up if a human fell asleep towered

Gatsby creates an identity for himself as a wealthy man, who lives a glamorous life by throwing huge parties, and is known by the most prestigious figures in New York. What the partygoers don't realize is that the parties and his wealth is all in the hopes of rekindling with his love from the past, Daisy. In the novelThe Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgeraldtells the story of a young man named Jay Gatsby, who came from nothing, and built up to be everything that he had hoped and dreamed of being. However, his one dream did not become a reality due to misfortunate events. All the money in the world couldn't make Gatsby happy, as he died as his true self, not the identity he created for himself. There are different identities that Gatsby creates for himself, with all of them relating to each other in the end. The identity that he creates for himself is a wealthy man, who lies about his history to get to the top. He appears to be likeable by most New Yorkers because so many people attend his outrageous parties that he throws. The reason Gatsby throws these parties is all for one person, Daisy, as he "half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some night, but she never did" (80). Because she never attended one of his parties, he sought out Jordan Baker to help him find a way to get together with his previous lover. For years, he worked hard to become successful in his "business". With all of the money that he gained from this, he "bought a house so that Daisy would be just across the bay" (79). Gatsby hoped that Daisy would notice him and his wealth, and therefore, leave Tom. He believed that if he was perceived as the "better" man, she would go back to him. In order to attain his wealth, Gatsby creates this identity by bootlegging. There are multiple rumors and stories that go around about his previous life, and what he has done. People who have never even met him say that "he's a bootlegger" (61). However, to cover up his confidential business, he is deceived as an enhanced version of his actual self. Instead of telling the truth, he tells people that he "was brought up in America but educated at Oxford" (65). Gatsby says this so that he sounds more important and successful. People aren't supposed to

If one individual fakes a report or document this can cause lack of trust in ones ability to complete a valuable report or document causing the mission to be a failure or worse causing some one to lose their life, because of a false or miss leading document. In the end this can lead to very negative affects among the group. This can cause the leader to not pick such individual that will cause the team to fail. It might also cause trust issues amongst the group with will ultimately cause them to fail and struggle and not have a successful relationship and fail the to meet end goals. Now let's say some one leaves classified documents unsecured this later on lies about leaving them out to a commander. The commander then realizes that this individual is lying after he or she has found them. If the commander had not found these documents could have fallen into the enemies hands, the documents could have caused and very negative affect and used against which could cause loss of life depending on the situation. Now how can it positively affect the mission. Integrity is something gained or earned never given. One must achieve credibility by first making credible documents or reports. This will effect the mission because it can cause trust to be gained with in the group. This can cause people to trust each other to get the job done and have accurately and deadly affects against our enemies foreign and

Great waves toss and turn with great force. Rushing as they collide with the earth soaking the soft sand. The ocean seemed to be howling as every wave grew as tall as a mountain. Slowly, the water creeps forward, then lazily seeping back in the vast ocean, only to do the same over and over again. The deep sea is a mysterious place where sea creatures lurk beneath the waves. Blue, sparkling water is everywhere you look with no end. The humming waves seem to whisper as if telling me the most confidential secret. You can never really hear them clearly until you dive in deeper and deeper. I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I'm not even certain I've seen all it's beauty that lies beneath. I can see the shadows of tiny fish swimming above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and run my hands through the wet substance that is so thick that my muscles grow tired the deeper my hand goes. As I lift my hand up, the sand makes a cloud of powder, slowly drifting through the water. The waters are so calm as though nothing could anger them. The Power Of Vulnerability, By
Brene Brown
"The Power of Vulnerability" is one of BrenГ© Brown's "most popular talk" in TED ("About | BrenГ© Brown, Ph.D.," n.d.) Here, she discussed what she have found and learned from her long research in human connection, specifically about the concept of vulnerability and its essential role in our everyday life. Brown (2010) started off with the idea that we relate vulnerability to negative emotions and towards the end, she showed that it is the "birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging, of love" as well and the "way to live." Moreover, she suggests that if we "let ourselves be seen," we expose ourselves to the different things in life that give "purpose and meaning" to us and live a better life out of it (Brown, 2012, par. 1). In the talk,...show more content...
She mainly emphasizes the thing that instead of going with the flow, we protect ourselves from it because we are afraid to experience such negative things without realizing that it is also an essential part of developing as a person. From her research, she found out that there are people willing to risk themselves to such experience, and these people realized that by enduring vulnerability, they can develop themselves into something better and live their life to the fullest (Brown, 2010). Brown does not just merely discussed the concept, but she turned the concept into something that people can think to reflect themselves. In general, what Brown did is significant in helping people who experience vulnerability due to the different problems that pressure him or her. It is true that nowadays we are experiencing different kinds of struggle in life, probably due to the fast–changing phase of our everyday life and changing beliefs, and because we are overwhelmed and tired of these struggles, we now tend to avoid these things because we want to give ourselves some form of relief out of it, but it turns out that we are just retaining it for long. From here, it makes sense that according to Brown (2010), "the way to live is with vulnerability." The work of BrenГ© Brown about the concept of vulnerability is truly remarkable and her talk about it truly gives a meaningful thought to all of us. With her optimistic view, her long–time experience, her wide knowledge, her simple style of delivery, and her emphasis on the reality, she successfully made her discussion meaningful, inspiring and encouraging to all. From here, she showed to us that vulnerability should be considered as something positive and essential to our everyday

About two years ago; we were in the keys on the southern tip on Florida, and had just boarded a fairly homely dive boat for my first ocean dive ever. My Father and I had been planning this trip for months, and today was the day it would happen. As we made our decent in the crystal blue water I looked to where we would be visiting in a few moments and saw what looked like the Sahara Desert; only it was underwater. It haddunes shaped by the current of the Atlantic Ocean, just as the Sahara has dune shaped by the winds of Africa, amidst these dunes I saw a reef jutting out, still remaining even after the endless years of water swirling around it. We finally ended our decent to the seabed, which was some hundred feet below the surface. I looked up and could make out the outline of the boat's bottom. This was to be a magnificent dive! The first thing I came upon when I hovered above the reed was a beautiful Angelfish. It's vibrant colors shining at me, enticing me to take a closer look. Golden yellows, deep and dark blacks, and warm blues were all over it's body. Turning away from his gaze, I scanned the many crevices and crannies of the reef. Out of one of these holes I saw a lobster. It had its sharp, probing antenna poking out of its hideaway. I chose not to disturb it however, since I did not have a tickle stick and bag with me at the time; nor was it lobster season.
I closed my eyes for a moment, listening to the singsong rhyme of the air bubbles coming from our tanks. I exhaled slowly and listened to them flow from my mouth. Along with this sound I heard everyone else

This paper is a literary analysis of a select passage from page 151 of Daniel Defoe's, Journal of the Plague Year. The focus of this passage is the narrator's feelings about the plague's relationship with human nature. In this passage H.F. (Defoe) asserts that another plague year would reconcile all destructive differences between people. Consequently, this passage does not correspond with the expected perspective of a plague survivor. The original intent of Journal of the Plague year was to be a realistic account of the plague from the prospective of H.F., a man living in London during the great visitation of 1665. The intention of the book does not match the content of the passage from page 151 because in this passage Daniel Defoe repeatedly...show more content...
This section of the passage also highlights the passages theme of the individual versus the collective. Specifically, through the perspective of H.F., Defoe asserts that religious sects should combine into one overarching religion. In that, the Anglican church should bind with dissenting religions and therefore absorb more of their characteristics. Although H.F. has this opinion, he believes that it is not feasible. He claims, he has, "no mind to enter arguments" (151), but again his persuasive language contradicts this claim. Defoe continues to cover up his opinion, which further illustrates how he is trying to hide how his personal perspective is influencing his writing. In summary, the authors perspective as someone is not a survivor of the plague heavily influenced the content of this passage. The passage's bias shows Defoe's insertion of his own opinion. His detached perspective is evident through H.F.'s emotional distance, use of persuasive language, and attempts to conceal his own opinion. This passage contains the inappropriate bias of the author, which deceives the reader who believes this is the opinion of a survivor of the plague of Get more content

January 27th, 2015. This is the day that would change my perspective of the Christian faith forever. Let me take you back to the day before. It was a long day and I had just completed yet another day at the prestigious Saint Thomas Academy. Later that evening I had planned to attend tutoring, lift and head home for a prolonged night of study, but this was not the case. As the final bell rang, I became drowsy, nauseous and extremely light headed, and I did what any other cadet would do: take a trip to the nurse's office. It was here where I fell asleep for a little under an hour, and the nurse contacted my mother and I made it home safely. My mom then took my temperature, provided me with aspirin, and sent me to bed. Now, to completely understand the story, I need to describe myfamily. On my mom's side of the family, we were and are still very close to each other. My cousins and I take tremendous pride and passion in caring for, and spending time with our grandparents. We were especially fond of our great–grandfather, Robert Glockner. He was a WWII veteran, and had German blood, making all conversations interesting! We spent extended amounts of time with him, especially during his later years, but it was I who had the opportunity to build a extravagant relationship with him. We spent countless hours together, him in a comfy bed, and me seated right beside him in an arm chair. He would relive stories from his time in the Navy, and the times when we were young. Though,

Reflection About Volleyball Experience
Volleyball season this year has been a whirlwind of emotions. Volleyball is an outstanding sport where the best of the best athletes come together and play a great game including a ball and net. The three biggest things of the season were the tryouts, practices, and the very last game of my middle school career. In this essay I'm going to talk to you about my 2017–18 volleyball season experience. This essay is in memoir form, so it will go back and reflect on the season. As I was getting ready for my second year of volleyball tryouts my heart was pumping so fast in my chest. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. Tomorrow was going to be the first day of tryouts, and I was so excited yet hesitant. Annika my best friend, and I were practicing with our Volleyballs outside of her house. We were doing most of the drills we remembered from the season before. After a couple of hours we decided we should stop before we pulled a muscle or injured our bodies, and rest up for tomorrow. My mother had cooked me a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup, my absolute favorite meal ever. She made it, so I can get me ecstatic for tryouts and to settle my butterflies. Once I finished my delicious meal and proceed to get ready for bed, Annika and I called each other and talked for a while about what we were going to do tomorrow. We hoped we would get on the team again. I dozed off shortly after we hung up. As I rose the next morning my father had made me a slice of toast with Get more content

Major Depressive Disorder Essay
Major Depressive Disorder or MDD is a very common clinical condition that affects millions of people every year. According to the Agency for Health Care Policy & Research, " depression is under diagnosed & untreated by most medical doctors, despite the fact that it can almost always be treated successfully.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM–IV); A person who suffers from this disorder must have a depressed mood, or have lost interest in things that would have normally brought them pleasure; for a minimum of two weeks. This must be different then the person's normal behaviors, and it may not be caused by a general medical condition. (American Psychiatric Association, 1994) ...show more content...
The treatments for depression can be antidepressants, psychotherapy, or a combination of both. Treatments using anti–depressants is well documented, but there are very few studies documenting only the use of psychotherapy. However, in one study done using the Cognitive–behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) as a maintenance treatment, the overall findings show that psychotherapy in itself can be successful. " There were 82 patients who were treated with CBASP long term. Patients were chosen at random to reduce their treatment to monthly or to an observational status. The patients, only treated monthly with CBASP, showed a smaller amount of reoccurring symptoms then the patients in the observational status. These findings support the use of only CBASP as a maintenance treatment for depression." (Klein, 2004)
Psychotherapy itself comes in many forms, and is based on many different psychological models. Adlerian therapy on the growth model, Gestalt therapy integrates the body and mind, psychoanalytic therapy focuses on the first six years of life, Reality therapy teaches people to control the world around them, and Rational and Cognitive therapy, deals with the cognitive and moral state of the patient. Any one of these could be chosen as a treatment option, but for the purpose of this paper, I will focus on a form of Humanistic Therapy.

Deviance can be defined as an absence of conformity to the social norm. Not all deviant behavior is necessarily illegal or harmful to individuals, these behaviors can range from standing in another's personal space to murdering another individual. In some cases, it can be looked upon as a positive change or a unique and favorable act. Although, considered deviant because it is not the social norm, it still can have a very positive social aspect or lead to social change. Abnormal behavior in one society appears normal in the other society (Nairne, 426). Deviance is weighed by the society's reactions to the particular behavior, also it is measured by the society's way of life so that it defines the unwelcoming behavior. It ignores the social order and some organizations believe, the reality in society. The violation of the social norm can be meant to be utilized as a way of sustaining power, position, and influence of a specific group of people or organizations. In most cultures, the idea of deviance is based on the values, deeds, and beliefs that are achieved through interaction among people that have influence in the society and from the understanding that culture is passed on from member to member. Societies are also comprised of the subculture and the culture itself. The huge cultural forces depict what deeds are appreciated and which are unaccepted or discouraged. On the other hand, the subculture in a certain setting creates a resistance to the dominating culture and in doing so, they give a hand in the behavior that violates the large culture social norms. Therefore, the deviation from the cultural norms can be attributed to the social classes and financial classes. For example, prostitution in regions of the developing world is deviant in most cultures, however poverty pressure pushes young girls toward it for survival. Another reason deviant people take a
