Thanks to our Sponsors and Cultural Partners

Thanks to our headline sponsor Committed to Manchester. As one of the largest commercial real estate owners in the city, our mission includes delivering work life balance through a best in class activation and lifestyle programme. Art & culture is a key element of this wellbeing agenda, which will be integral to our latest Grade A office development at Eleven York Street and a repositioned Atlas Business Park. These assets sit alongside similar clustered holdings in our portfolio at 201 Deansgate, 11 Portland Street and The Corn Exchange.

Committed to Manchester As headline sponsor and in line with our commitment to lifestyle, work life balance and wellbeing, Aviva Investors are honoured to partner with Manchester Art Fair. Following a successful 12 months, investing approximately £250m across in excess of 500,000 sq ft of office space, we hope our track record shows that we are Committed to Manchester. Underlining our long-term presence in the Manchester market, with commitments to schemes such as the Grade A office development at Eleven York Street and the repositioning/ redevelopment of Atlas Business Park, we feel Manchester Art Fair is an ideal event with which to align the work life balance for our office residents.

ELEVEN YORK STREET

55 SPRING GARDENS

The forward funding of 85,000 sq ft of speculative grade A accommodation. Eleven York Street will represent our best specified office asset in Manchester and adds to a strong portfolio of space diversified by micro location, design and flexibility. The marketing campaign for the scheme will launch imminently and break new ground in the viewing experience, enhanced by the building’s vertical design and resident lifestyle proposition.

55 Spring Gardens is a 55,714 sq ft refurbished Grade A office building that includes a best in class ground floor business lounge, concierge and lifestyle proposition. This purchase was the first for Friends Life under Aviva Investors management and presented the business with a different type of Manchester product, one that is targeted at growing relationships with SMEs in an environment that promotes creativity and innovation. Over the short to medium term, we will be increasing the building’s activation and interaction with the streetscape.

In an increasingly digital, interconnected world, with rising numbers of automated professional jobs, the sustainability of cities is a key driver of real estate investment decisions. Aviva Investors believes the Manchester office market is very competitively placed to prosper from the influence of the knowledge-based economy.

We look forward to continuing our commitment, further growing our presence and support of the Manchester community.

11 PORTLAND STREET

201 DEANSGATE

11 Portland Street, formally known as Westminster House is situated in the heart of Piccadilly, a short walk from the train station. The building extends to c165,000 sq ft and comprises offices over 8 floors with ground floor retail and leisure. In 2015-2017 the asset was completely repositioned as part of a £20m renovation that converted a tired building in to a high quality, modern office space. Aviva’s commitment to this area has attracted new and dynamic businesses in to the building, with occupiers including Lloyds Bank, ARM Ltd and ETC Venues.

201 Deansgate is a multi-let office property, with a ground floor retail. The acquisition is aligned to the fund strategy to invest in good quality real estate, in preferred centres, with the potential for improvement and increased liquidity. Neighbouring the St Michaels scheme, the medium term business plan will deliver improved office specification, complemented by best in class tenant amenity, to compete directly with the leading Grade A product.

ATLAS BUSINESS PARK

2 NEW BAILEY

The acquisition of the refurbished, multi-let Altitude building, signalled our intention to reposition, develop and regenerate this secondary business park asset. Following the successful extension of our relationship with Vodafone, supporting a significant injection of jobs in to the area, we have secured a total of 90,000 sq ft of new lettings over the past 15 months, including the relocation of four businesses to that area. In partnership with Property Alliance Group, this project represents our belief in the ongoing and long-term potential of the South Manchester market.

Forward funding of the development of Two New Bailey Square, a best in class 187,241 sq ft office building in Salford, Greater Manchester alongside Muse and The English Cities Fund. This transaction provides our investors with sustainable, inflation linked income, underpinned by a strong public sector tenant in a market with robust fundamentals, underpinned by our strong belief within Aviva Investors about the health and future growth of the Greater Manchester area. We are pleased to be working with ECf on this project and to be supporting the masterplan for the wider New Bailey area.

Welcome to The Manchester Contemporary

Welcome to The Manchester Contemporary 2018 The Manchester Contemporary, which takes place alongside the Aviva Investors Manchester Art Fair, is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Curator’s Message Now in its tenth year, The Manchester Contemporary takes a uniquely artist-focused approach, inviting the most exciting international and UK galleries to participate. With careful selection and bold curatorial vision, The Manchester Contemporary showcases the strength of the UK’s regional artists and galleries alongside key international presentations that can only be seen in Manchester.

I have concentrated on bringing back key previous exhibitors alongside some new galleries, offering the best from across the UK and internationally, with new exhibitors coming from as near as Wakefield and as far afield as Berlin, Rotterdam and Caracas. As curator, I am hugely excited to bring these galleries to Manchester, making this a more accessible fair for the audience, collector and gallery alike and providing a unique, critically-engaged environment for viewing and buying art. Nathaniel Pitt Curator of The Manchester Contemporary & Director of Division of Labour

This is a significant year for the fair, as it is my first as curator, giving me the chance to build on the fantastic legacy of the fair as it enters its tenth year. We have gone from strength to strength over the last ten years, and now we are presenting our strongest roster of contemporary art galleries and artists to date.

Drawing in Drag by Simon Grennan - Exhibition, book launch and queer book fair 12 - 19 October 2018, Chetham’s Library

Bound Art Book Fair 12-14 October 2018, The Whitworth Bound Art Book Fair is an annual celebration of artists publishing from the UK and Europe, taking place for the second year at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester. The fair features stalls from independent and artist publishers alongside a free public programme of talks, workshops, music and new commissions. Bound seeks to contribute to and develop networks of engagement extending outside of London, with a specific focus on supporting projects and emerging practices in the North of England.

Based on an illustrated Victorian novel from the collection at Chetham’s Library, the book focuses on the manners and habits of twenty-first century leisure culture, and its roots in the great cities of the nineteenth century. Artist and graphic novelist Simon Grennan reimagines Duval’s work from a contemporary perspective, adopting her name as a pseudonym and producing drawings in drag, as a woman.
