School of Dance & Movement

Dance Information

To find the best classes to choose for your athlete, classes have been broken down to specific levels for the School of Dance and Movement. You can find these listed below. During this time we are making adjustments to help prevent the spread of disease. This includes but is not limited to keeping class sizes smaller, practicing hand washing before each class, and providing at home videos and/or exercises to help prepare students for their next classes.

Pre Classes: Intended for the first time athlete to learn the very basics and be introduced to the class. These classes will introduce body awareness and work on motor skills as well as offer a learn through play approach. These classes range from 2-5 year olds, depending on the particular class. Level I Classes: Introducing students to the world of dance through classes with more structure and discipline. These classes will develop body awareness and placement. As well as the key points to making a routine and skills, students will learn to develop their individual passion for the sport. Level I classes are intended for 6-9 year olds. Level II Classes: As you move your way through the School of Dance and Movement, you will learn to master your skills as well as develop more challenging ones. Level II classes will be taught at a faster pace and students are expected to show discipline and enthusiasm for the sport they are continuing. Here you begin setting an example to other dancers moving up in the program. These classes are created for 10-14 year olds. Building Block Classes: These classes are made for all levels and intended for strengthening the core classes. You may take building block classes separately, or use them to challenge yourself even more. Created for the dancer who wants to take it a step further, you will find extra practice time and an opportunity to work on your individual skills.

Join Us for Dance Recital Season

Sunday, May 8 | 2-4P | Fenton High School, 1000 W. Green St.

The Winter/Spring season is dedicated to rehearsing for our annual spring Dance Recital when students showcase their best moves! Everyone is invited to cheer them on.

Note: An additional $35 will be required for the recital costume.

Ticket Sales & Pricing: Begin March 7 at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. Tickets are issued on a first-come first-serve basis. Students will receive one free ticket regardless of how many classes they are in. Free tickets will be distributed to the performers with recital packets the week of March 21. Ages 3 and up are $6 in advance, $8 at the door. Ages 2 and under are free. Children 2 and under must sit on an adult’s lap.

Dress Rehearsal and Pictures: On stage Dress Rehearsal and group photographs are set for Saturday, May 7 at Fenton High School.

BUILDING BLOCK CLASSES

Tumbling I

Tumbling will provide athletes an opportunity to learn even more about what they can do with their bodies. Increasing flexibility, strength, and balance are some of the many skills that will improve from taking this class. Learning the basics such as forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels will prepare students to take on even more challenging skills as they continue their education. No class the week of 03/28. Tumbling II

Tumbling II is for older students who are ready to flip into some trickier material. Each athlete will be able to work at their own pace and improve specific skills that will benefit them and what they are ready to accomplish. We will tighten up what you know and introduce the things you’ve been ready to try! No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max12. (LS)

Tumble Tots

Tumble Tots is designed for little ones who are being introduced to their first ever class. Learning how their body moves and what they can do with it will amaze their growing minds and muscles. Body awareness and play are what make this class so important and unique. Climbing, rolling, and finely tuning those motor skills trains little ones into the athletes they will one day become! PRE-CLASSES

Dance with Me

Parents and children will have a blast in this interactive class. Using props and each other to build strength, trust, and an incredible bonding experience is something you will never forget. Learning through play and expression will help you and your child get to know each other even better through movement. This is a non-recital class. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Fairy Princess Dance

All little ones dream of being a fairy princess in a world full of magic. This tot class will surely give them that experience. While being introduced to ballet, we will incorporate props to encourage creative learning and expression. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Hippity Hop

This tot class is intended for the first-time dancer. Your little one will have an opportunity to learn the basics of hip hop and groove to their own beat. Learning choreographed steps for the first time can be a challenge, but this high energized experience will leave them wanting to dance even more! No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Pre Ballet

This class is the introduction to the art of Ballet. You will learn important dance terms and how to apply them on the dance floor. This style of dance will build strength, flexibility, and precision. Starting here is the best place to begin your dance journey in the Ballet world. Starting at the root will help dancers blossom into the athletes they will soon be! No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Private Dance Lessons New!

Are you interested in taking your skills a step further? Perfect your technique, advance to the next level, and become the dancer you are ready to be. One-on-one instruction provides your dancer an opportunity to have all eyes on them. Private lessons can be done in conjunction with a current class, or to work on your individual goals. Lessons are by appointment only with select instructors. No class the week of 03/28. (LS)

Peppa Party New!

Get silly, giggly, and wiggly with songs galore! Your child will dance, play, and get social to their favorite Peppa Pig music with all their friends in this one of a kind class! Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Group Lessons

Just like our private lessons, we are offering an opportunity to work with an instructor but in a small group with your friends or siblings. No more than 4 people to a group. Lessons can be done in conjunction with a current class, or to work on your individual goals. Lessons are by appointment only with select instructors. No class the week of 03/28.. Min 3 | Max 12. LEVEL I CLASSES

Hip Hop I

Hip Hop is a style of dance that will be sure to keep you moving. If you like music that gets you out of your seat, this is the class for you. Created for dancers ready to work on their rhythm and groove. Hip Hop will be taught by individuals who know what it takes to make it to the top. This is not your typical dance class, because it’s more than choreography that makes a strong Hip Hop dancer. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Ballet I

You have made it here, and now starting in the heart of the sport itself. Introducing this technical style is a challenging but rewarding experience. Dancers will leave with proper posture, technique, and carry out beautifully executed Ballet skills. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Jazz I

If you are sassy and spunky, jazz is the class for you. This style of dance is all about showcasing “what you got!” Learn a style that will literally keep you on your toes. This class will be an introduction to the style of Jazz and be full of turns, leaps, and attitude. This style is sure to build aspects of a dancer you never thought existed. Musical Theater I

Want to be a performer in Broadway style shows? This class will introduce students to the world of character building and exploration as well as teaching them how to dance in styles like jazz and tap. From performances like musicals, to shows by the Rockettes, your dancer will surely want more! No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Lyrical I

Flow, elegance, and beautiful technique make Lyrical dance so special. This class will be filled with magic and grace for a dancer who is up for the challenge. Turns and leaps across the dancefloor will wow the crowd as well as the dancer who has learned how to properly execute them. Building flexibility and trust within a team makes a dancer who is preparing to be competitive and even do solo performances in the future. Learn the basics of lyrical and perfect your skills in this level I class. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Tap I

If you have rhythm that flows through you to the point where you can’t stop tapping your toes, you have found your perfect match. Different tap concepts will be introduced and built upon in this class. Perfect for those who like making noise, showing off their moves, and incorporating jazz and theatrical aspects. Kick up those heels and step out into a world full of a style of dance that focuses on many senses. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

LEVEL II CLASSES

Hip Hop II

Ready to take it to the next level? This class will have you hitting all the right beats and making a statement in the classroom. You will take on material that is more challenging and for an older group of students. If you want to continue improving your skills in a Hip Hop setting, this is the class for you. You will learn new skills as well as prepare to become a competitive dancer. No class the week of 03/28. Min 3 | Max 12. (LS)

Ballet II

Ballet II is designed for dancers who are serious in continuing this beautiful art. Combos will be executed with focus and precision as well as grace and beauty. The dance floor is yours, and developing into the young ballerina you dream of is right around the corner. The strength of a Ballerina will be evident by the time this class is over! Jazz II

If you are ready to take it up a notch, Jazz II will be there for you. Even more attitude and technique will be a part of this class. More complicated combos and skills will build a dancer’s self-confidence as well as bring the team together. High intensity, showstopping, and fabulous are just a few words to describe this class. Tap II

Tap II will keep you moving and experiencing rhythmic movements. Here you will be sure to hit all the beats and create a one of a kind show each class. Designed for older students to continue developing their skills and trying new things every day. You won’t be able to leave this class without tapping those toes everywhere you go!
