FIVE TIPS TO (DRUG-FREE) MIND ALTERING MUSICAL EXPERIMENTATION

LEARN THE RULES; THEN BREAK THEM!

chat show hosts offering bins full of cash to record the moment we get fork-lifted out of our homes through the massive hole in the wall that used to hide the shameful wallpaper inside our bedrooms and collection of My Little Pony dolls. So before we reveal our shameful secrets of too many late nights and eBay purchases under the influence of a fresh credit card and appalling decorating skills, let’s talk expanding our minds within musical composition. Such as telling you to…”

Whether Rap or Rock, Blues or Drum-n-Bass, chances are any artist worth a lick of spit knows their creative field fairly comprehensively; the verse goes here, the bridge goes there, so on and so forth. So mess things up and see what happens; who says

the chorus has to come after each and every verse? Why not throw it in right at the beginning, followed by the huge build-up lead normally kept for the bridge, before quietening things down to become more open and sparse? This simplest of swapping around of structure lends more gravitas to the lyrics when the vocals kick in, creates a consumptive mood of closeness and slight suspense; breaking back into the chorus will make it sound louder, more impassioned and full of emotional feeling and weight. Record each structure as you normally would, then cut-n-swap each individual chunk of sound about and see what happens. Even if you stick to the ‘tried and true’ rules you write by it’s still worth experimenting with the structure as this method of composition helps bring out and highlight any weak parts within the song you may have missed, and can polish up accordingly.

got it at an invaluable price and continues to see it pay him dividends on a daily basis through the skills, talent, and insight in finding the five spot in the flawed, the money in the mire. From his beginnings in the east village of Manhattan to the living room of every house in the world Joe started out refurbishing and re-homing fairly everyday accoutrements; lamps, furniture, and a smorgasbord of various fine art and unique collectables that passed o’er the door-mat. With two fellow partners lending their learned eye to the business, Joe’s schooling in antiquing and auctions was further bolstered by taking himself to the very heart of the market itself, his face appearing across Long Island and throughout the boroughs running stalls, shops, anything and practically anywhere that bought him even one single step closer to the possible untold fruits that lay in the hands of those wishing to pass them on. Being a native New Yorker, Joe grasped the nettle and applied himself to the heady task of storage reclamation and re-appropriation; though the possibilities may appear limitless with what the next purchase may have brought him, the reality of spending what could be a significant amount of money on what could turn out to be a duck in a dog suit meant Joe was only ever one bad buy away from seeing his financial security turn into a seemingly fiscal frivolity. Separating and merchandising antique and higher end items in flea markets in Manhattan on weekends to maximize profit and service both ends properly.
