rom being named “Guitarist of the Year,” to winning seven “Best Album” awards, to eight Billboard charting albums, Johannes Linstead has become recognized internationally as one of the best selling guitarists in the Instrumental, Jazz and World Music genres. 2015 has already been a great year for Linstead, a master of the Latin guitar. His latest album, Midnight Rhumba, recently won “Best World Album” and the “People’s Choice Award” in the OWMR Music Awards based in the UK. Midnight Rhumba has also charted in the Top Five for International Radio Airplay and in the Top Ten on the coveted Billboard charts in the US. Known for their high-energy concerts, Linstead and his group often have audiences up on their feet dancing, clapping their hands, and shouting out “Olé!” They regularly perform at many prestigious performing arts centers and music festivals, including the famed Catalina Island Jazz Festival in California. When asked what his favorite songs to perform live are, Linstead responds, “Some of our favorite pieces are from my latest album, Midnight Rhumba. “Calypso Island” which, as the title suggests, is very Caribbean sounding, and “Radio 8 • BWD Magazine • www.bwdmagazine.com
Argentina” which captures the magic and romance of Argentine tango. From my previous album, Tales of a Gypsy, we enjoy the grooving “Swaying Palms” and “Bella! Bella!” - A gypsy jazz piece in the style of Django Reinhardt. The Cuban inspired “Coconut Girl” and the reggae-influenced “Rico!” from my Mistico album are also crowd favorites.” As you can see, Johannes Linstead draws upon many different cultures most of which he has personally journeyed to, from Spain and the Mediterranean, to Cuba and the Caribbean. “I travel around the world sharing my music, and each of my compositions is like another tale to be told. I feel like I am following in the footsteps of the original gypsies who traveled wherever they wanted and spread their music, culture and art as they went. I also think of planet earth as one world and all of the inhabitants as one people. The nomadic concept of ‘no borders’ represents the kind of true personal freedom that I - and the gypsies - have always appreciated.” The gypsies in Spain were the first to develop the passionate Spanish guitar sound which evolved to become flamenco. The rhythms eventually traveled the Caribbean and Latin America where it mixed with African and even indigenous influences. Born and raised in Canada to European parents, he now spends part of the year living in Canada near Toronto, and
the other part in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. When he was a child, his father, who passed down a passion for Latin culture, took the family on numerous trips to places like Spain, Mexico, South America and many islands in the Caribbean where he developed a deep love for tropical rhythms as well as tropical weather. Now Johannes, who has been to approximately 25 countries, travels both for pleasure and to perform concerts in such diverse places as India, Cuba and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
tion promoting holistic living and ecological awareness. When not on tour he conducts yoga and music retreats in the Dominican Republic.
Linstead has eight previous best-selling albums under his name — Sol Luna Tierra, Kiss the Earth, Guitarra del Fuego, Zabuca, Mediterranea, Cafe Tropical, Mistico and Tales of a Gypsy. Most of his albums have risen high on the prestigious Billboard New Age sales chart and are regularly Top 10 on various radio airplay charts. His music receives acclaim and strong sales from the Smooth Jazz, New Age and World Music audiences, but it is best described as guitarra latina, or “Latin guitar”. While his guitar-playing has a Latin focus, Linstead is inspired by music from all around the world and from many different eras. He regularly works with top musicians from many different countries and cultures. “I enjoy inviting diverse musicians to perform on my recordings. It’s like adding exotic spices that give the music a unique flavor,” says Linstead. Linstead is also a very spiritual person which is expressed not only in his music, but also in his lifestyle and reverence for nature. aricor and Lillie Jackson are a husband and wife duet singing under the name of SoulDirection1. Zaricor and Lillie are also ordained ministers that work with the homeless.
Zaricor and Lillie Jackson met in an unusual way. After the passing of Lillie’s husband she attended one church as Zaricor assisted a pastor in another. Somehow, God brought them together through a young homeless man; of which, they were both working with. Zaricor and Lillie worked together in finding him a place to stay, safely off the streets. Giving him a chance for a better future. This renewed their vision to not only help the homeless but to sing as well. Zaricor and Lillie are singing at many churches throughout the Los Angeles’ area. This is their first venture in trying to reach a larger audience. They strongly believe that all lives matter. Zaricor and Lillie have done many things over the years such as: Host Café Style Christian events and having their own cable access program for 12+ years. For thirteen (13) years; under the direction of the late Tommy Jacquette - a nationally recognized community activist, they were the planners and hosts of the Gospel Concert for ‘The World

Zaricor and Lillie’s work with the homeless community; in low income areas. Zaricor and Lillie released their debut album titled, “To The Least Of These”. The music on this album comes from their many experiences; out in the streets, with the homeless. We dedicate “To The Least Of

The “Straight” Truth
(shave it all off) it is certainly taken for granted and probably the most abused part of our body, other than our feet. How about the hair on our feet?
A “Marvel” for Women
1.
All you need to do, is go to a big popular beauty salon to see how important hair is to women. Walking around with plastic caps on and goo all over their heads like some action hero, right out of a Marvel
Comic book. I’m sure they think that they will be on the next cover of BWD Magazine. Their hair is straightened out, pasted down, colored with deadly chemicals, kinked into corkscrews, fluff to a bushy centerpiece like Howard Stern or cut the devil out of it for some unusual sex act, they have it all. 14 • BWD Magazine • www.bwdmagazine.com

Men are far less conspicuous with their hair but their vanity to hide baldness with shaving all their hair off is like Tom Cruise who is short, to wear flip flops and bend over to look less short! How can
shaving all your hair make you look less bald? Of course they then counterbalance this with shaving all their bodily hair off to look sexier. I hate to tell you guys, but nay not so and all that time using No-No makes you look like a skinned wiener which may not be too far from the truth. Toupees are out and only call more attention to that dome that you are trying to avoid contact with. Maybe you should wear a sign saying, “Look here” and be sure to wear sun glasses to avoid eye injury from that reflected sunlight. Just as an aside, you can treat baldness early with grape seed extract (not biotin) and saw palmetto because of its antitestosterone effects.

MONTHLY ‘TIPS’ COLUMN
Conclusion and Bottom Line! In my opinion with everything in life including your hair, is to take what you get and don’t try to make it something that it’s not. Yes, groom it and take care of it but don’t go beyond reasonable boundaries and make yourself look more ridiculous. Brunette is brunette, frizzy is frizzy, bald is bald and hair is hair and work on your intelligence, manners and livelihood instead. I guess that our emphasis on superficial things are the reason why but at that level, nothing of substance will result. Try this antithesis, “To be or not to be, that is the question”! PS: This is from a man who is married to a woman who colors her hair. Vanity what can I tell you. Just don’t tell anyone, OK!

Rashaun Will

n an industry that has evolved so drastically over the years, there’s one artist in particular who has remained consistent while resisting the industry trends. Often times, these trends have sacrificed an artist’s originality, leading to a generic commercial formula. This musical prodigy has evolved in becoming one of the greatest artists to date. Remaining his authentic self in his admirable career catapulted his success as an artist while captivating his audience. Well established with other natural gifts and talents such as wisdom and discernment, he refuses to compromise his personal character and passions for any industry trend. This is Rashaun Will. Beginning at the early age of 11, Rashaun was exposed to numerous cultural and sociological influences that contributed to his success as an international recording artist. Hence, allowing him to stimulate his own unique musical composition. These influences include his biological roots growing up in New York City, while being surrounded amongst other well renowned musicians. Rashaun began mixing his own melodies with an antique Yamaha keyboard, saxophone, and a trumpet. Moving forward, he began to produce tracks for several local artists throughout the years and touring with others in the industry. He learned on a first hand basis what it took to become a successful performer. 24 • BWD Magazine • www.bwdmagazine.com
Compelled by his talents and capability to influence others through music sparked his determination to begin his own career in music encompassing the broad horizons of New York City. Rashaun’s first album debuted in 2002, “Who Am I?” With his release of this album, he was able to sell an unprecedented 10,000 copies without the help of national distribution, retail management, neither in-store support. Impressing the likes of many fans, Rashaun also earned the opportunity to open up for major artists around the nation, has been featured on 100’s of mixtapes, magazines and nominated in the category of “Most Original Solo Artist” at the 4th Annual Underground Music Awards. Upon this recognition, “Patience is a Virtue” was produced in 2005, which exemplified vintage freestyle techniques that Rashaun had acquired earlier in his career. Rapid acceleration of Rashaun’s talents reach substantial heights in 2013 led by his first single “I SHOW OFF” produced by Grammy Nominated & Former NBA Star, Maurice Ager, which landed 182 in the top 200 national radio charts in its first week with 568 spins, peaking at 128 and landing 36 on the top 50 indie chart by week 3. Additionally, in 2014 he exploded onto the European Charts in the Electronic Dance Music Category with his hit single,
“JLT” (Just Like That) collaborating with world renowned artists Nils Van Zandt and Sydney Housen. His song debuted at number 8 on iTunes while peaking at number 2. “I want to give a new meaning to the definition of ‘a diamond in the rough,’ he said, stating, “This is what it takes to maintain a career without sacrificing your artistic integrity.” Rashaun will be the first to admit, “I’d rather be known as an overachiever that takes creative risks than someone that follows the same lines or lyrics as everyone else does.” Due to his perseverance and tenacity, along with his wide range of expertise in the field, Rashaun launched his own record label in 2014 (Numbers Don’t Lie Inc.). Now a CEO, consecutively managing his own livelihood, Rashaun released his first album off the label, “I’m So Necessary” in 2014. He is now a world renowned international recording artist with a diverse audience including the United States branching out to the United Kingdom and Europe. His passion exudes in every arena of his life and each destination he travels to perform. He is loved by the masses. His creativity runs majestically and he continues to leave others inspired with an influential message throughout his endeavors. Well respected from countless genres in the music industry, his humility remains. Rashaun will be the first to tell you “I don’t look for any co-signs or brag about the praise I get from my industry peers, God is the only co-sign I need.”
