During the past three years, the oil industry has among other things been severely affected by an extremely low oil price which has caused projects to be cancelled or postponed and it has overall resulted in a low level of activity. Also, Blue Water’s Oil-Gas Division has experienced the consequences, but the recent months seem to indicate that the times are changing. “The oil price is going up and the situation seems pretty stable, creating positive trends in the market. We can see that our clients in the oil industry start investing again which means increased activity for us. If we look ahead, things look good as we have recently won some good contracts and we are participating in many tenders”, says Thomas Bek, Global Director of Blue Water’s Oil-Gas Division.

Efficient organisation In recent years, the Oil-Gas Division has worked at adapting the strategy and organisation to the future market. Several offices have been affected by cutbacks due to lower activity. It is, however, important for the division to maintain an efficient organisation with offices at the key locations of this industry: among other places in Houston, Singapore, Dubai and Baku. “Many of our clients operate at several locations throughout the world and it is of vital importance for our service that we are able to provide the transport and logistics services requested by the clients. Therefore, we have spent the past year

adapting and strengthening our set-up and we expect that our clients will benefit from the fact that we are ready to handle their assignments now that the level of activity is increasing”, says Thomas Bek. Blue Water’s global network of offices is working closely together for servicing our clients. In addition, the company has a wide range of special in-house competencies: engineers, IT developers, experienced project freight forwarders as well as a number of quality, safety and environmental specialists. Blue Water is in the process of executing the company’s biggest project ever, the scope of which comprises project management of a transport assignment for TCO in connection with the extension of the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan. And other major projects are in the pipeline: Our Houston office has just won a big contract. “We see an increasing demand for complete project management where we, due to our wide experience and expertise, are capable of controlling the entire logistics part for our clients. We still have a big job ahead of us, but it is encouraging to see how the market is picking up again". We can see that our clients in the oil industry start investing again which means increased activity for us.

TRAINEE GRADUATION

Trainee graduation September marked the graduation of 24 trainees from Blue Water’s Scandinavian offices. They are all part of the first team, who have completed Blue Water’s own academy profession programme in international transport and logistics. 18 trainees will continue in Blue Water Denmark after their graduation. Some have completed their trainee programme in Norway and Sweden where a few of them will continue their career. Blue Water has made it a priority to find and develop future talents which means that our trainees have to work long days as well as prepare schoolwork. During the school periods, focus is on

the theoretical level and our trainees are given lectures by teachers from the Business Academy and by Blue Water’s own experts – including Claus Bo Larsen who has decades of experience within customs handling. “All trainees have given what it takes to become the best. We focus on creating the troubleshooters of the future by making the education relevant through involvement and examples and cases from the freight forwarder’s everyday life”, says Pernille Sigvardt, HR Business Partner who is responsible for the trainees in Blue Water.

Welcome to 48 new trainees A new chapter has begun for 48 new trainees who participated in Blue Water’s introduction week in Esbjerg. Here, we had strong focus on involving everyone in making the week a valuable and educational experience. Among other things, the trainees were asked to prepare questions to an expert panel consisting of Carsten Steffensen, Global Head of Reefer Logistics and Per Holm Nørgaard, COO General Cargo.

“The introduction week is vital for making sure that the new trainees will have a good start. In particular, we focus on the social aspect, teambuilding and workshops about career, values and ambitions. We had a great week, where the new trainees, particularly during the questions session, proved that we have some of the brightest minds in the business”, says Pernille Sigvardt.

Indonesia's first

wind farm project Blue Water has from July to November, on behalf of our client Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, been involved in an inte resting project of supplying transport and logistics services to an onshore wind farm in Indonesia. “Our part of the project included six shipments consisting of blades, hubs and nacelles for the 30 turbines as well as general cargo. The heaviest component was a nacelle weighing 107 tons.

The blades were loaded in Qinhuangdao in China, nacelles, hubs and general cargo in Bilbao, Spain and port of discharge was Pare Pare in Indonesia, a first time event for Pare Pare port. The project was carried out in a perfect teamwork between Blue Water’s offices in Esbjerg, China and Singapore and proceeded on schedule”, says Sebastian Stackelies, who was the Project Manager at Blue Water Singapore.

PORT SERVICES & AGENCY

Preparing for renewable energy

Done in record time Blue Water Brest acted as agents in connection with a subsea operation at more than 50 metres' depth At the end of August, Blue Water Brest was once again nominated as port agents by our client Sabella – French specialist in subsea tidal turbine energy. Sabella was to replace a so-called submarine connector at the end of the export cable connecting the tidal turbine D 10 to the shore on the Ushant Island in the Fromveur Strait. The cable is lying on the sea bed at a depth of 55 metres. To manage this delicate operation, Sabella’s team embarked the MV “Olympic Taurus” of Olympic Subsea ASA, Norway, chartered by Mojo Maritime France/James Fisher Marine Services,

an operator specialised in subsea installation for marine energy technologies. The new connector was installed by another long-time client of Blue Water: MacArtney - specialists in this kind of subsea cable connectors. The operation was performed in record time and without a hitch. “Sabella’s tidal turbine D10 is undergoing optimisation and reinforcement work in Brest and will be reinstalled during the coming winter. We very much look forward to working together with this splendid team again”, says Mogens Nielsen, Director in Blue Water France.

The port of Brest is preparing itself for marine renewable energy and in this respect, Blue Water have been assisting as port agents. The preparations consist in upgrading the quay areas to adapt them to marine renewable energy. “This upgrade will hopefully attract major players from the offshore indu stry. With our experience and years of involvement in challenging projects, we are ready to provide all operators with the best services within offshore wind”, says Marianne Girardin, Marine and Renewables Manager at Blue Water Brest. The region of Bretagne owns the port of Brest and after some time of planning, it was decided to invest in the future and construct a 400,000 square metre area. The upgrade includes a new heavy load quay for large components to the renewable offshore industry. For this project, Blue Water has acted as port agents for several coasters arriving in Brest with so-called sheet piles. In total, the region will be investing around 220 million euro in this project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Port logistics for Horns Rev 3 Blue Water has been awarded the port logistics contract for the Horns Rev 3 Offshore Wind Farm by Vattenfall. An exciting challenge lies ahead. “We have worked together with Vattenfall on several projects and look forward to continuing the good working relation we have built. For Horns Rev 3, our experienced staff will provide many of our core services and ensure a high level of quality and safe operations throughNo. 119

out the project. Horns Rev 3 means a lot for the local companies in Esbjerg and is also important for us to be a part of”, says Klaus Odby, Manager Port Agency at Blue Water. The scope for Blue Water will include stevedoring, warehousing, terminal hand ling, project agency and general logistics surrounding the project. Horns Rev 3 Offshore Wind Farm is located 25-40 kilometres off the west

coast of Denmark and will consist of 49 of the so far most powerful turbines in the world. They will have a total capacity of 400 MW, equivalent to the annual consumption of 425,000 households. The installation of foundations will commence in 2018 and the entire wind farm is expected to be running at full power in 2020.

Global freight contract Worley Parsons won a five-year contract for Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCm) services for BP- operated assets in A zerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Having passed a prequalification stage, Blue Water Caspian were invited to submit a tender which was successfully evaluated by Worley Parsons and their client BP. “We are very pleased and proud to have signed a three-year contract for Global Freight Forwarding services. The scope includes international freight from worldwide locations to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, export freight from these countries, customs clearance, warehousing services, packing, stuffing at origin and destination. We look forward to working closely together with Worley Parsons to deliver the best services and logistics solutions to our client”, says Fina Garber, Managing Director of Blue Water Baku.

Breakbulk Americas Again this year, Blue Water representatives from all over the world participated in the Breakbulk Americas exhibition in Houston, during which we had the opportunity to present our new stand and explain our existing as well as potential clients about our global services. The visitors were particularly interested in the model ship that we had brought with us from the TCO-project, for which we will deliver 20 specially designed Module Carrying Vessels (MVCs) to Kazakhstan. Brent Patterson from our Houston office participated in a panel discussion concerning the current situation of the logistics industry. We met a lot of suppliers and clients, and we look forward to additional, interesting meetings at Breakbulk Europe in Bremen in May 2018.

Blue Water France has handled all logistics services for a project for NFM Technologies facing traffic, administrative and weather challenges. The task included the transport of 16 components – cutter heads, shields, reels - as well as forty 40’ containers from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to Fos-sur-Mer in the South of France. All shipments are for a used tunnel boring machine. “The first challenge was to reach the site in Riyadh to collect the cargo. Also, a lot of road restrictions made the collection difficult”, says Lionel Guilbaud, Blue Water’s Project Specialist in France. Furthermore, the customs procedures turned out to be a bit comprehensive and challenging. Finally, Blue Water’s stevedores had to work in 44 degrees centigrade in Dammam – and so the challenges continued. “As the elements arrived in Fos-sur-Mer, we transshipped the cargo from the master vessel onto a river barge. It can be a difficult manoeuvre as the weather may also be a determining factor. Everything went as planned though”, says Lionel Guilbaud. At the end of October, the 40’ containers arrived in France.

the beach, they were brought into the port of Lowestoft and considered unfit for further use. The pipes were then cut into 218 sections. Dutch Marine BV was responsible for the recovery and cutting of the pipes. In Lowestoft, Blue Water handled the loading operation together with the local crane company Wavetrade and received big support from ABP (Associated British Ports) as well. The pipes had to be removed swiftly from the quay area, which had to be used for other purposes. Due to the tight deadline, which had to be observed, the pipes were loaded onto three coas ters and transported to Aalborg within two weeks. “It was a challenging assignment as we had to move three shipments within two weeks. But we succeeded in finding a good solution with Scot Line”, says Søren Lassen from Blue Water.

Project with many challenges

With three shipments within only two weeks, Blue Water handled the transport of 218 plastic pipes (PE) from England to the plastic recycling company Aage Vestergaard Larsen in Denmark “Within a short time frame, Blue Water managed to solve this exceptional assignment. It was a complete success due to competent employees and a well-run organisation”, says Tommy Jensen, Logistic Coordinator at Aage Vestergaard Larsen. Originally, the plastic pipes were towed by tug in a configuration, consisting of six 485-metre pipes and one section of 315 metres, from Norway to Algeria where the pipes were to be used as cooling water inlet for a power plant. Unfortunately, a container vessel collided with the pipes in the North Sea resulting in four pipes breaking in halves. As a result of the incident, four pipes washed ashore on the east coast of England outside the city of Lowestoft and some pipes were floating around cau sing a danger to navigation. Blue Water is also developing its cruise activities in the port Kalundborg Port is in charge of the 330,000-square metre port expansion – 50-metre quay area and a water depth of 15 metres. The project aims to develop the local business sector, generate employment and ensure that the port is adapted for future requirements of the growing

The expansion is welcomed by Blue Water. “With decades of experience of deve loping cruise activities, we can offer our services within turnarounds (passenger and crew change), terminal handling as well as additional services to the cruise ships. The new area will be a unique turnaround opportunity for Baltic cruises as well as for cruises along the Norwegian west coast. The cruise industry is growing and so are the ships. port will become a more attractive location for the cruise lines”, says Hans Chen Braas, Manager Port Agency & Cruise, Blue Water Copenhagen. Kalundborg Port is situated near Copenhagen, the airport and the motorway network. Therefore, the port has a strong position in the cruise market believe Blue Water, the port itself as well as the third partner in the project – German PWL Port Services. The new port area is expected to be up and running in the spring of 2018.

Optimised logistics In 2015, Blue Water Miami signed a global contract with an important cruise client covering logistics services for their products by air and ocean freight to cruise ships around the world. The contract included a commitment from Blue Water to help the client optimise their logistics set-up on a global scale. “In January this year, the client asked us to do an analysis of their logistics set-up in Asia, which materialised into a request for setting up a distribution centre in Busan, South Korea with pick and pack services including direct ship delivery in South Korea and Japan. Despite the political situation between China and Korea, we expect Busan to become a central point for home porting and provisioning of cruise ships in the future”, says Kasper Diaz Sommer, General Manager, Blue Water Miami, who is happy to announce a newly

awarded subcontract covering this scope in South Korea and Japan. Our Singapore office has handled the process of identifying the right partner in Korea: Zodiac Solutions, whom we have worked with on project logistics for se veral years. “Our many years of experience with Cruise Logistics, combined with a Control Tower set-up with one point of operational contact co vering the global arena, was the reason why Blue Water was awarded this contract”, says Clarence Loh from Blue Water Singapore. The first container under this contract arrived in Busan at the end of June and first shipment was successfully delivered on 5 September to cruise ship “Costa Neo Romantica”.

REEFER LOGISTICS

A great evening with clients In October, Blue Water participated in the Anuga exhibition in Cologne, Germany. For Blue Water’s Reefer offices, Anuga is a key event and during the exhibition, representatives from Rotterdam, Brest, Barcelona, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Esbjerg, Miami and Sâo Paulo took the opportunity to renew, strengthen and build relationships with customers and suppliers. On Saturday evening, we held our annual reception where almost 200 custo mers, suppliers and partners contributed their share to a brilliant evening. Among the many subjects discussed, door delive ries in Angola, booming exports to South America and the positive expectations for 2018 were recurring themes. With over 160,000 visitors and 7,000 exhibitors, the Anuga exhibition once again proved to be an important event for Blue Water’s reefer offices.

REEFER LOGISTICS

FL: The Danish Ambassador in Iceland Mette Kjuel Nielsen visiting Blue Water’s stand. Behind her you can see Andreas Nøhr Vestergaard, Assistant Manager at the embassy. Next to the ambassador are Bent Rasmussen and Rasmus Krohn Elkjær from Blue Water.

Fast deliveries of fresh fish to Europe At the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition & Award in Iceland, Blue Water Hirtshals presented its transport solutions for fresh and frozen fish. A service focusing on transit time and quality “We had a good talk with the Danish ambassador in Iceland Mette Kjuel Nielsen. We informed her that by weekly departures we can swiftly transport fresh and frozen fish by RO/RO vessels from Iceland and the Faroes to Denmark in close cooperation with Smyril Line. And via our reefer terminal in Padborg, we distribute the fish

throughout Europe. Mette Kjuel Nielsen already knew a little about Blue Water, and told us that we had provided transport solutions to the embassy on previous occasions”, says Rasmus Krohn Elkjær, Assistant Manager at Blue Water Hirtshals.

Focus on quality Over the years, Blue Water has built special know-how on transport of fish from both the Faroes and Iceland. By air freight in particular, large quantities are being transported to Asia. And by RO/RO vessels,

reefer trailers are rolled directly on board the vessel and rolled off upon arrival in Denmark. This shortens the transit time, which is an important factor for the quality. “The transit time is vital when transporting reefer products. Also, the cold chain must remain unbroken, which will ensure that the quality is maintained during transport. As an additional initiative for ensuring a high quality, we use ultramodern temperature-controlled trucks so that the products remain fresh”, says Rasmus Krohn Elkjær.

Expanding global reefer services At Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg, a central department with international experience within Reefer Cross Trade is located. This department handles its own clients as well as supports other Blue Water offices and clients all over the world. “The purpose of establishing this centralised Cross Trade group was to deliver better service and to meet our clients’ needs in markets where we are not re presented. The group consists of an international team who has solid knowledge of

No. 119

the global reefer market. Therefore, we are able to follow the trends and changes and help the clients with adapting their transports for the development”, says Frank Madsen, Global Director Reefer Logistics.

Global strength Initially, the Cross Trade department consisted of two employees. Within the past couple of years, the team

has handled increasing volumes and today the team consists of six colleagues each having their own area of responsibility and knowledge of specific markets. On a global scale, Blue Water has a strong position within reefer transport by air and sea freight and a strong position has also been built within European road transports of temperature-controlled cargo.

Gazelle nominee In Norway as well as in Denmark, companies can be nominated as a gazelle company. One day in September, Blue Water Oslo received a letter with the heading: Congratulations – your company is on this year’s gazelle list. There are certain criteria that a company must live up to before it can be nominated. One of them is a doubling of the company’s turnover during a four-year period as well as a turnover of minimum one million the first year. The Gazelle prize in Norway is presented by H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon. We cross our fingers for our Norwegian colleagues and congratulate them on the nomination. Gazelle companies in Norway as well as Denmark are rewarded due to their growth.

Clean water by Hippo Water Rollers Blue Water’s Aid and Relief team has transported 400 Hippo Water Rollers to the Marshall Islands. Now, the locals can collect 90 litres of water at a time and minimise the physical strain. A Hippo Water Roller is a barrel invented for making water collection simpler for third world countries. The barrel can contain up to 90 litres of water and can be pushed or rolled by use of a handle. This way the physical strain will be minimised compared to carrying buckets or other containers as the locals are used to do. In October, the 400 Hippo Rollers arrived at Ebeye in a container. Ebeye is one of the minor islands of the Marshall Islands and is located a six-hour flight east of Australia. The transport was handled by Blue Water’s Aid and Relief team from Billund. “The assignment went exactly as we had planned. It was great to see the hap py faces of the locals as they received t h ei r H i p p o Rollers”, says Marina Kongstedt, Freight Forwarder in our Aid & Relief team.

Flexible investment Blue Water Copenhagen has invested in new flexible Libner trailers to their road department. These trailers are designed to transport part loads, full loads as well as containers. Blue Water has already more than 1,200 curtain and reefer trailers on the European roads and with this new investment, we aim to improve the service. “With the flexible Libner trailers, we can take full advantage of our trailer fleet and optimise our service towards our clients”, says Lasse Franzen, Assistant Manager Road in Blue Water Copenhagen. Through this new investment, the road department wishes to work closely together with the Sea Freight department in supplying the increasing demand for road transport of containers between Sealand and Germany. “We experience a great demand for

short transit times and increased fle xibility. The new trailers will strengthen our capabilities for fulfilling our clients’ needs. They facilitate trucking of two 20’ containers or one 40’ container at a time – directly from point of collection to the quayside or the other way around. Our service will result in a time saving of up to ten days compared to the current feeder solutions in the market”, says Laila Teilhof, who is responsible for Sea Freight in Blue Water Copenhagen. The trailers are purchased on trial for a period. If they show good results, we will evaluate and increase our fleet of this type of trailers. The drivers of the custom-designed trailers have received in-depth training and been approved to deliver goods in port areas.

Logistics to the Sailing WC 2018

Logistics to the Sailing World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark next summer must be 100 percent under control. Blue Water will take care of this. The event is going to be one of the world’s biggest sailing events as more than 1,500 yachtsmen from almost 100 countries will be visiting Aarhus at the same time. This places heavy demands on the logistics services. ”A sailing event like the Sailing World Championships involves gigantic logistics challenges and due to the short duration, everything needs to be in place within

short time. Blue Water has more than 40 years of experience within this field. The company has a strong global network and knows Aarhus very well. We are therefore very pleased with this partnership”, says the Manager for the Sailing World Championships Klaus Natorp. Before and during the event, the yachtsmen are offered transport of their equipment to/from worldwide destinations by air, sea, road and courier. Also, we offer to handle local customs procedures, transport to/from the event area, receipt and shipment of parcels as well as storage. December 2017

Vintage aircraft across the Atlantic In August, our Overseas department in Esbjerg received an inquiry for transport of a vintage aircraft, from 1944, from the US to Denmark. The client arranged the packing himself into a 20’ DC container. To help us, we had involved our colleagues in Chicago, who have substantial expertise in import to and export from the States. “It turned out that our client had bought the aircraft from a private person who was not registered with the US Customs and consequently had no export licence. However, our colleagues succeeded in helping him to obtain such licence, so that shipment of the aircraft could take place without delay”, says Teddi Dahl Holm, who was the Coordinator of

the project at Blue Water Esbjerg. “This is just an example of the exci ting projects we are involved in. We have extensive experience within regular sea freight, but also with the more challenging assignments, and we often assist with anything from ordinary freight to import of cars and special projects like this”, says Teddi Dahl Holm.

Aid to hurricane victims After hurricanes IRMA and MARIA struck and left thousands in need of help, Blue Water has assisted humanitarian and aid organisations in bringing aid items to the Caribbean region. Thousands of tons of aid kits and aid materials have been distributed to those in need. “Together with our agents in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, we loaded a barge with different kinds of aid

items. The barge set out on a three-week voyage to bring aid and assistance to the many families in the region”, says Johnny Mortensen, Head of Blue Water’s Aid & Relief department. The aim was to provide aid to Barbuda, Antigua, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, St Martin, Turks and Caicos, which were some of the worst affected islands.

Special transports in Hirtshals In Hirtshals, Blue Water has built comprehensive expertise within special transports of large components to the Faroe Islands. One of the office's latest assignments was the delivery of a 30-ton transformer on behalf of Følsgaard A/S, to the Faroese power supply company SEV, in cooperation with Smyril Line. “The transformer arrived at the port of Hirtshals and was by rented crane lifted on to another trailer. Our own stevedores made sure that the cargo was rolled safely on board. Finally, our terminal workers performed lashing and securing of the cargo. The transformer was delivered in Havnardalur on the Faroe Islands where it will be installed and connected to the electricity grid”, says Jan Nørgaard from Blue Water Hirtshals. At the moment, our Hirthals office is in the running for being nominated supplier to other major projects next summer.

Growth demands space

Popular career exhibition At the career exhibition in Herning, the eight graders from the town’s primary schools were introduced to their future training and educational opportunities. At Blue Water’s stand, the trainees from our Herning office told the visitors about the working day of a freight forwarding agent. “We welcomed around 250 visitors. Our trainees did a great job introducing Blue Water and the educational possibilities that we offer as well as the possibilities No. 119

of an international career in our organisation. It was a great day and hopefully we have encouraged some of the young people to make the right choice for their future”, says Fin Hüttel, General Manager at Blue Water Herning.

The office facilities in Billund have been extended by 300 square metres due to progress in the activities and pressure of business in general. But part of the reason is also the twofold increase in the number of employees over a period of five years. Today, the office employs a staff of 38 compared to 18 in 2012. “With the refurbished facilities of almost 1000 square metres, we can provide better working conditions for our employees. Also, we have created a basis for further growth”, says Rene Lindhard Rasmussen, General Manager in Blue Water Billund. Our colleagues in Billund handled the re moval of office furniture themselves and over the weekend, IT managed to make everything ready for Monday morning.

Together under one roof in New York As we have had two offices in New York (New Jersey) for the past several years, it was time to relocate to bring the staff together under one roof as well as increase our warehouse space. We moved to our new location just down the road in September, with more warehouse space to better support our current and future operations. The building has been remodeled to fit our needs and requirements, and we have spent several months working with the landlord and contractors to make the space our own. Coordination of the work in preparation of the new space was handled by Cyndi Lawrence and Leanne Manetta. All employees assisted in the move, and it has come together nicely.

New IT Director In October, Blue Water welcomed 41-yearold Jan Dalgaard Andersen as the company’s new IT Director. Jan comes from a position of Director in DSV’s global IT Management. Zero incidents is the target On the latest course, the participants simulated different types of accidents. The course was organised together with AP Services and PEAK Safety, who have years of experience with first aid courses.

In addition to the first aid course, Blue Water is in the process of rolling out a Safety Awareness programme for Management as well as for many other colleagues from the different offices. Here, the participants are trained in safety culture as well as in the importance of intervention to ensure safe working conditions at the workplace. The efforts made by Blue Water within safety, courses and training contribute to achieving a workplace with zero accidents.

With our experience and know-how, we have good possibilities of contributing positively in several links of the logistics chain”, says Henrik Mørch. With his competencies within logistics and supply chain, Henrik adds further interesting business opportunities to Blue Water. Henrik lives in the northern part of Sealand with his wife and their three children and spends his free time playing hockey and squash as well as skiing.

Dublin Manager: Rhona Linehan Established: 1978 Employees: 7 Primary activities:

»» International transport by Sea and Road »» Transport of Refrigerated Cargo »» Transport of General Cargo »» Customs Clearance »» Veterinary Clearance »» Warehousing & Packing »» Deliveries & Handling Blue Water Shipping Ireland was established in 1978 as two separate offices – one based in the city centre for the Sea Freight department and a second office and warehouse in Coolock for the Road Freight department. In 1998, the offices joined together in the heart of Dublin, but as the business expanded, the team moved to its current location in Clonshaugh in 2008, with the warehouse facilities close by. The Sea Freight team of four specialises in transportation of Refrigerated Cargo world-

wide. The main cargoes carried are frozen meat, fish and poultry as well as dairy products - all are deep sea shipments to destinations like the Far East, Africa, America, Australia and New Zealand. The office provides all services for the export from Ireland, not only the sea freight but also customs clearance and issue of waivers and certificates required. We also specialise in import of food products into Ireland and deal with customs and veterinary clearance on the same”, says Rhona Linehan, General Manger in Blue Water Ireland.

The three colleagues of the Road Freight team specialise in transportation of General Cargo to/from Scandinavia. The opening of our new depot in Taulov, Denmark has, however, opened up new opportunities for covering deliveries further afield in Europe, based on Blue Water services and delivery options provided by Taulov. “We are a small office, but a busy one, and we always welcome a challenge and look forward to all enquiries for transportation of cargo”, says Rhona Linehan.

Walking for a good cause In October, Federal Business Centers, the business park where Blue Water’s New Jersey office (New York) is located, sponsored their fifth Annual Fun Walk to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. It was a one-mile walk where employees of local businesses came out to walk in support of a great cause. Federal Business Centers made a donation to the American Cancer Society on behalf of every person who walked. It was a beautiful day, and five of the Blue Water staff members joined in the walk.

Gymnastics team on tour A team of travelling gymnasts from Aarhus, Denmark recently returned from a fantastic and eventful two-week tour of Florida, USA. The team is a show team of boys and girls from both the artistic gymnastics and the jump disciplines. The participants are from seven to 16 years old. The combination of the two gymnastics types and the age composition make the team unique. For this tour, Blue Water sponsored the freight of the team’s gymnastic appliances.

Blue Water NEWS

23 Norwegian Blue Water colleagues spent a weekend together on a hiking adventure in one of Norway’s famous mountain areas Jotunheimen and the Besseggen Ridge. Early in the morning, the troops gathered before departure. Even though no competition was mentioned, one might suspect some of the Blue Water hikers to compete for being the first one to cross the mountain. The young ones started with a bang, but were overtaken while enjoying their lunch. When everyone had reached the mountain top and admired the scenery,

they all continued to the cabin for good vibes and local beer as well as delicious local dishes with reindeer, fish and elk. Some walked back to the bus the next morning, however, those who had stayed up late the night before took the ferry. The bus ride back to Oslo was conveniently more silent than the bus ride from Oslo. The Norwegian mountains showed themselves in the most favourable light that weekend. The sun was shining, there was hardly any wind and the hikers felt great.

BLUE WATER SPIRIT

The Foreign Minister visited our Copenhagen office It was an educational and exciting experience when the Danish Foreign Minister, Anders Samuelsen, visited our office in Copenhagen, where we hosted a debate about trade agreements, freight volumes and growth. Both our colleagues and clients seized the opportunity to get at close range of Anders Samuelsen who willingly answered their questions involving topics like free trade agreements with Canada, Vietnam and Ghana, the strong economy of the Czech Republic, Brexit, wealth in Europe and the positive results from many years of aid to developing countries.

Cultural meeting point Nuuk Nordic Cultural Festival 2017 took place over one week in October. Jubilees Silver Priscilla D’Souza

16.03.93–16.03.2018

On 16.3.1993, Priscilla D’Souza/Blue Water Dubai started her Blue Water career involved in customer service/secretarial duties. Over the years, Priscilla has with great enthusiasm and hard work developed her competences and is today the Manager of HR, Administration and Finance in Dubai. A job she performs to perfection. She has for many years been the back bone of the Dubai office. Priscilla is a very caring person and she is never afraid of lending a helping hand, also when it comes to personal matters. No wonder that she is well-liked among her colleagues. Priscilla loves spending time with her family. She is the mother of three grown-up sons who have blessed her with grandchildren. In addition, she is involved in charity. Priscilla’s other interests include travelling and music. Priscilla has on several occasions visited Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg, Denmark and she has now learned to pack warm clothes and boots when she is travelling to this (cold) part of the world. The first time Priscilla visited Denmark was in the winter time. She had to go out and buy herself a pair of boots as she arrived very smart and elegant in her high-heeled Dubai shoes, and soon her way of walking looked like Bambi on thin ice. A spectacular sight which Kurt Skov, in particular, will never forget and

sometimes reminds her teasingly. When Priscilla does the cooking, the food is really hot and spicy. When we in this part of the world would use four cloves of garlic in a chicken casserole, Priscilla uses ten times as much. If it is too spicy for us Danes, she will just add some lime juice. Priscilla likes to taste new and different food. We once took her to an old Danish inn where she had rye bread with salted herring and smoked dab with a glass of aquavit. Nobody dares say that she is picky.

Jubilees department at the Odense office. At that time, Søren already had a truck driving and freight forwarding career from other transport companies. Søren’s absolute field of expertise is Scandinavia, but his knowledge of road transport is in general very comprehensive. Over the years, his colleagues have regarded him an oracle as his knowledge goes beyond what any normal person knows. He is a principal factor in the deve lopment and success of the Scandinavian traffic at the Odense office. Søren was for a number of years manager of this team along with being responsible for the Domestic department in Odense. Since 2015, Søren has focused on Business Development Road for Odense, but he has also participated in the cross Nordic cooperation with the other Nordic traffic managers. According to his colleagues, Søren is a nice and fun guy, but also very clumsy. He knocks over the glass on his table so that his keyboard does not work anymore or he shows his talent for football (or lack of it) resulting in a destroyed office lamp the next minute. He has even managed to fall into a bathing pool during a summer party. Søren loves music and plays electric guitar in a band. His other hobbies include cycling and badminton. But best of all are the family holidays (to destinations that are not too hot) with his wife Jane and their daughters Natascha and Nicoline.
