GREENORE PORT, IRELAND Expanding Ireland’s only privately-owned port which provides a dual gateway to the UK and Ireland

Described by An Bord Pleanála (Irish planning authority), as one of Ireland’s “critical infrastructure assets,” Greenore’s location by the Dublin-Belfast economic corridor and just 15km from the M1 motorway means the port can serve as a dual gateway to both Ireland and the UK. The port provides marine and logistical support services across various industries such as agri-feed, construction, renewable energy, livestock exports and manufacturing. In 2015, the port owners, Doyle Shipping Group’s (DSG) strategic development plan outlined the requirement to improve existing port infrastructure. This expansion included an extensive port dredging project to make the port accessible to 10-metre draft vessels and an upgrade to the existing quay wall and landside facilities including livestock areas. In 2015, (DSG) commenced the €12m port improvements enabling Greenore to compete with other major Irish ports as the Republic’s only deep-water port outside of Dublin Port on the East Coast of Ireland.
The Brief DSG appointed Ayesa to provide a range of engineering consultancy services which included the outline design and to manage the procurement and construction phases. Our marine engineers provided the preliminary design of a new 140-metre quay wall and quay deck, site and deck infrastructure and supervised the significant dredging of the berth basin to -7.5m CD (chart datum). The design enabled increased dredge depths and berth pockets, and upgraded landside infrastructure, vastly improving port facilities for customers. Our services included engineering design, procurement support and contractor administration. Our team secured the necessary statutory consents (planning & foreshore), managed the tendering and procurement of a contractor, negotiated contracts, provided IFC drawings, independent CAT III analysis and supervised construction to deliver quality and safety assurances. As project managers throughout all phases, we 12
delivered a high quality and durable solution with an emphasis on value throughout the project lifecycle. We acted as the Employer’s Representative and co-ordinated the Project Supervisor Design Phase (PSDP). Our environmental team conducted the ecological and environmental reporting for Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protected Areas (SAC/SPA) to ensure compliance with foreshore licence conditions.
“As Project Manager for the client, we can help ensure value and efficiency at all phases, enabling collaboration and integration across teams.” AYESA LEAD PROJECT ENGINEER
