This week's recommendation ALBUM TITLE: Wreck Me ARTIST: Travis Collins RELEASED: July 2020 GENRE: Australian Country BIO: This is the 8th studio album from Australian country music singer-songwriter Travis Collins. Already an ARIA chart topper, winner of six Golden Guitar Awards and four CMC Australian awards, Collins is an established Australian country musician. This album was recorded in Nashville, Sydney and the Hunter Valley, and in some senses is a compilation of sounds and singles, rather than an album with a common theme. Legendary Nashville producer Luke Wooten, who has worked with Collins before, does help to bring it all together. WHAT TO EXPECT: Collins and his band are great live performers, so it is a bonus that they all feature here. Michael Cole (guitar), Scott Greenaway (bass) and Brad Bergen (drums) bring their guitar riff s and raw power, which combined with Collins’ high energy vocals and heartfelt lyrics makes you feel part of a crowd pleasing singalong. WHAT WE LIKE: The title track and opening number Wreck Me sets the country-rock tone, with guitar solos, thumping drums and an edgy Ozzie twang. Rainy Day, one of the fi rst singles released, is a much gentler track, where Collins pays tribute to a friend lost way too early. Damn Girl features guitars and a sing-a-long chorus. Girl Outt a The Country is reminiscent of Nickleback (Rockstar country-rock style). Make Up and Weekend have been out as singles for a while and both have that Keith Urban, commercial southern country “geett aar” sound. Desperado is one of Collins’ all-time favourite Eagles numbers, and he gives it his own twist. STANDOUT TRACKS: Wreck Me, Girl Outt a The Country, Desperado.
