Nature of Project Tourist attraction

The problem now is the search for identity of the Filipino recreation into the landscape – what is fun and enjoyable for the Filipino? How would it appeal to the Filipino youth? And how would an amusement park tap the inner child of the Filipino, regardless of age? Taking into consideration that play is directly connected to leisure and amusement, present facilities lack the culturalsensitivity that address to the Filipino leisure patterns

Picnic Grove and Nature Park is located at Brgy. Sungay East, Tagaytay City and is owned and operated by the City Government of Tagaytay. The property has a total area of 18,497 sqm, or 18.5 ha.

The site is bounded by a national road to the north and existing circulation roads inside the site are limited. The rest of the area is used by pedestrian access. The Nature park area to the west is detached.

and aspirations. For instance, amusement parks, a core space that can trigger childhood memories are presently challenged. These types of park that exist nowadays have a general feel and spirit that is too western. This study aims to harness the full potential of landscape design and espouses the amalgamation of indigenous and native game cultures together with the present western technology trends and styles therefore creating a unique Filipino recreational landscape that would bring pride to their culture and identity through holistic spatial programming and creative amusement park design.

The site has a gentle sloping terrain coming from the north (8-15% slope) and goes down to moderately steep terrain in the southeast area. (15-30% slope). Water runoff goes directly southward.

Mature trees mixed with secondary growth proliferates the site especially in the steepest slopes wherein the roots of the trees help hold the soil to prevent erosion.

Hand drawn conceptual details were illustrated for an in depth understanding of how the unique attractions work.

As water gives life to an oasis, a fluid landscape that flows into the space and wraps around the existing structures dictate the form of the built environment. Not only does it define the shape of the development, but also the flow of circulation and relationship between the spaces within. Regarded as the best beach area in Hainan Province, the site in Yalong Bay is situated about 25 km east of Sanya City and 35 km from Sanya Airport. LOCAL PEOPLE

FLORA

The Dumagats

The site has a local community of Dumagats. ‘Dumagat’ which refers to the logical origin of its name “taga-dagat” refers to “sea gypsies”. They typify the outstanding negrito physical traits of dark brown to black color and curly hair.

Bonsai Forest

The site has an existing bonsai forest to the northern tip especially on the Puzo Rubo beach area. This floral diversity has been mainly associated with strong winds from the sea, and adds a very unique flavor the the site.

GEOLOGY

Bawac Shoals

The Bawac Shoals are a long stretch of coastline with Tidal pools - these are rocky pools on the sea shore which are filled with seawater. Many of these pools exist as separate pools only at low tide.

Puzo Rubo beach

FAUNA Whale sighting

The waters off Santa Ana are rich in marine life. The water is clean where it surges from the Pacific Ocean into the West Philippine Sea and beyond into the South China Sea. Marine mammals and fishes use this route around the Philippine archipelago for their annual migrations.

SM Mall of Asia Reclamation Project Metro Manila, Philippines Client SM Holdings, Inc.

Nature of Project Reclamation and Integrated Masterplan

Due to the size and complexity of the project, we leveraged our business lines of Design, Planning and Economics; Transportation; Environment; Water and Urban Development; and Geotechnical, to create a legacy world-class destination for the greater Manila region. The planning and design of the MDP was undertaken to address environmental, social, economic, and physical issues as well as aspirations for the local community. For instance, existing on-shore flooding will be mitigated through the project by re-establishing native mangrove habitats and providing buffer functions as a result of natural disaster events. The project will provide numerous jobs over a 40-year period in the construction industry to build roads, bridges, mass transit systems, parks, and private development buildings.

Completion date 2015

Site Area 660 Ha.

The project will be served by not only new vehicular bridges, but multiple mass transit options to allow for mode choice for everyday commutes. The emphasis will be on walking and cycling between destinations reducing the need for vehicular ownership. A waterfront promenade will extend along the entire length of the project, with multiple attractions. A large central park will be created as the ceremonial heart of the new development that will be able to sustain large crowds during regional Manila-wide events. At full build-out, the project will be the most dynamic destination in Manila, and follow the legacy established by Burnham over 100 years ago.

I am very fortunate to have the capacity to set foot in foreign land and experience its culture. Along with my compact camera, i try to capture as much photographs of landscapes and portraits. As they say, ‘if the world is book, those who do not travel reads only one page’.
