We are confident that, as you attend the program and benefit from the resources and atmosphere of Brigham Young University, you will have a rewarding and uplifting experience that will strengthen your resolve to achieve these aims

Advice from Longtime Education Week Attendees

• Mark first- and second-choice class preferences for each hour.

• Bring a light sweater—some classrooms are cooler than others. And wear comfortable shoes!

• Carry a small notebook or tablet for class notes. Rather than trying to write down everything, write the things that are most meaningful to you.

• Expand your interests and take advantage of new learning opportunities by attending one or two classes each year that you would not typically choose.

• Visit with the people around you. It’s a good way to get to know good people, and they may recommend great classes you might otherwise miss.

• Avoid restroom lines by using facilities in buildings and on floors where classes are not held.

• Ask a friend or family member to drop you off at BYU each day. If this is not possible, save time by parking west of the stadium and taking a shuttle.

• Ride the rapid transit Utah Valley Express (UVX). See rideuta.com for details.

Classroom Etiquette

The following guidelines show respect and courtesy for everyone and provide a pleasant atmosphere during Education Week.

• Remember to silence your cell phone before class begins.

• Please follow the directions of the hosting staff—they help maintain the order needed for a successful program.

• Remember that classes are first-come, first-served, and saving seats is not permitted.

• Position your name badge so the hosting staff can readily see it.

• Other than water, please do not eat or drink in the classrooms. (The Marriott Center is the exception.)

• Lectures may not be recorded or broadcast

• Ask questions or make comments only when invited to do so by the presenter.

• Refrain from asking presenters about their published works. The BYU Store carries items recommended by presenters for Education Week students.

• Please do not leave class early or applaud after testimonies.

Thank you!

We hope you enjoy BYU Education Week.

Performances at SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre Fiddler

on the Roof

Monday and Tuesday, August 19–20, 8:00 p.m.

Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince, songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and bookwriter Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, this universal show is one every person should see in their lifetime . . . more than once!

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy, and sadness, and enjoying iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man”, and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.”

Directed by Kurt Elison. Music Direction by Christian Wawro. Choreography by Olivia Keating. Produced through arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Various ticket options are now available through the SCERA website, scera.org.

*BYU Education Week shuttles do not run to the SCERA Theatre. Participants are responsible for getting themselves to and from SCERA Theatre performances located at 600 South 400 East, Orem, Utah (in the middle of SCERA Park).
