Hey, everyone. I’m Ting and nice to meet you.

In my project, I want to make the space full of stories and layers through the intervention of designers. Therefore, I am focusing on narrative design, trying to dig out the stories behind the space and allowing the audience to experience the space from distinct perspectives.

Enjoying :)

TEA BATH

TEA BATH is a tea exhibit for two weeks in New York, cooperating with local Taiwanese tea shops and farmers to launch diverse activities and experiences.

TEA BATH will e ectively use tea as a raw material to transform it into various uses, such as tea pigments and tea composting. What is unique about this exhibit is that it will provide a platform for Taiwanese tea farmers to deliver their stories to the audience, helping Taiwanese tea branding spread to the world.

Madison Square Park, NY TEA BATH Exhibition 2022

Issue - Promotion of Taiwanese tea culture

The Taiwanese tea culture is very diverse. The stylized tea-making method and the randomly customized hand-shank tea are the same. It reflects the Taiwanese's unique "mix and match" gene, which is slightly capricious but full of vitality.

Intention - Work with THREE LEAFS

A communication bridge between the world and Taiwan's high-quality tea is established through brand promotion and sharing.

There are two forms of kiosk in this area, one is enough space for the audience to rest, and the other is used for dynamic activities.

In order for the public to understand how tea leaves are transformed into di erent uses during the event, several treasure chests will be installed on the tree trunk to arouse the curiosity of the public and open it.

MEMORY

MEMORY is an olfactory art exhibition performed on the High Line, "The Spur," for three months. MEMORY focuses on how to present the four seasons' fragrance of the High Line's bulbs plants through the installation. Then, when the audience experiences these, allowing users to understand better the appearance of the High Line bulbs through this installation.

The exhibit uses smoke to represent the invisible aroma in the installation. Through the transmission of smoke, the aromas will spread out, and people can simultaneously imagine the scents of the four seasons. Moreover, dividing the time of the day into four periods, people experience the aroma of di erent seasons in a day. In the smoke, what people think of through di erent scents may be lilies representing summer or da odils representing winter. Furthermore, the odors displayed through the installation directly bring out the experiencers' memory fragments, reminding them of the odors they may have smelled on a particular occasion.

MEMORY Exhibition 2022

In 1995, Rem Koolhaas put forward the concept of "generic city" (generic city), which refers to "a city environment with no di erence, no characteristics, and order quality." It clearly reflects the current situation of cities in the 21st century. In the case of specification, standardization, and international patterns pervading the world, is there still a di erent choice for the region that is about to develop into a city?

No definition, no assumption of crisis, no redemption, and a text analysis of the real context of the city. Space experience and discover the latent images of these cities, finally add a developer to the latent images to show the spirit of place (genius loci) that exists in every city.

Background

Under the trend of postmodernism, is the contemporary spirit of place really lost? Or is it reinterpreted in a modern form?

First of all, there are two reasons for the change of place spirit from modern times. The first is an urban problem. Modern architectural structures are regarded as "expanded houses." Multiple mixed functions are gathered in a volume. Public and private, fluidity and closure form a disorder of human scale. The second is an international style, where cultural language is formalized, translated into geometric forms and symbols, and continuously reproduced, resulting in the distortion of the essence of the object.

Landmarks and Opportunities

- 4 historical buildings of cultural assets, with the potential of the spiritual core divergence unit of the Meilun area.

-5 major religious sites as important nodes for local residents.

- 2 medical institutions provide residents with basic safety functions to provide a sense of emotional security in long-term residence.

- 8 schools show that there is a long-term and stable youth population flow in the district, which is helpful for cultural, educational and industrial cooperation, and has the potential for the development of a new era of life style.

Historical Development

Whose genius loci ?

With designers, local residents, and tourists as the three related groups, try to make cross-comparisons from a tripartite perspective to calibrate the places, activities and characteristics of the spirit of the place, and list the self-evident place image in Meilun area.

Potential Problems

Concept

Open space

The north of the base is an important node in the overall plan, with an open space set up as an entrance to introduce the flow of people.

Semi-open space

Around the building, the west of the base is a hotspot for people flow. I hope that it will be partly concealed and part of the wall will be preserved.

Private space

Use the existing height di erence to design the sinking space to reduce external noise.

Node:

Take the main meeting point as an important node space for viewing the characteristic images of the base.

Pavement replacement

In order to strengthen the integrity of the surroundings, and this road is tra c flow is scarce, so the pavement is replaced to reduce the speed of the tra c flow.

Planting:

Plant trees at intersections to provide people with safety when walking at intersections and have a visual sense of faint penetration.

Focus:

Attract the attention of the crowd with sculptures, mounds and large volumes.

Base image

The old Japanese house in the base is used as a platform for the surrounding elderly care area, child care area, and nearby residents to communicate, provide life education courses, story sharing, or hold event venues. New residents, can gather here to find places. In the site, part of the wall is broken in space, allowing the surrounding wind, water, air, and land to penetrate the building, linking each other, and through space compression, light, and shadow, mirroring interweaving the stone on the ground, creating a spatial interest, in the base The sinking space is designed in the southeast, where artists can hold exhibitions, events, etc. The space reflects the sky image through the patio, trying to convey the ordinary scenery that is often neglected in life. Viewing it from di erent perspectives can give various feelings.

How to get involved in the base?

A ected by the war at that time, Taiwan Fertilizer built many air-raid shelters, which were people’s longevity dreams of the past air-raid shelters. With the changes of the times, modern people paralyze themselves in all kinds of pastimes and disappear from perception. Therefore, as the image that takes place on this land, we hope to reinterpret the image, highlight the image in the base, and decompose the perception in the air-raid shelter. To construct spaces such as light and shadow, plantings, volume, and topography to give users new on-site images. It is also hoped that through sensory experience, the crowd will return to life and find the story of life.

"Every person is a node, and every space is a container for the node. The interaction between the node and the space forms a local settlement." Starting from this concept, it is hoped that people will be attracted to the Milun Laboratory. The continuous expansion, gathering and interweaving between people and the base, through the experiments of the surrounding crowd activities, the use of the field, the communication of the crowds and the formation of public space, the base and the city can metabolize the local images, creating a "new" with the base. The memory space, and these chemical catalysis, permeate the cultural and historical context of Meilun.

The area retains distinctive natural images and undiscovered and undocumented images of humanities. Through the analysis of the front texts, it is concluded that "mountain and sea" is the core development concept. Mountains and seas nurture settlements, memories, and special environmental structures. Using contemporary Taiwan's low-priced, ordinary building materials, and we try to construct the interaction and perception of the environment between humans and mountains and seas, continuing the surrounding landscape of the unique harbor.

Breaking up the original checkerboard movement of the town, entering the hillside field in a guerrilla manner, returning to the original nature of the natural place, trees, soil, sea, and objects also return to the scale of individual units, responding to contemporary loneliness and small groups.
