ccording to Mr. Webster, a hullabaloo is defined as a great noise or excitement; an uproar, if you will. Here in NorthWest Crossing, we call it the best darn way to kick-off summer. This one-night-only-so-don’t-youdare-miss-it street festival is a party that has it all—toe-tapping music, thrilling bike races, mouth-watering food, tasty libations, kid-tested fun and more, all in the heart of NorthWest Crossing’s charming neighborhood center. We’re thrilled to welcome Grammy Awardwinning folk-rock duo, The Indigo Girls to the stage this year! Read on to learn all about the exciting stuff taking place at this year’s 7th Annual Hullabaloo! And this is just the first of many fun, family-friendly events taking place in the ‘hood this summer! Our sixth season of the Saturday Farmers Market unfolds the Saturday morning following Hullabaloo and we couldn’t be more excited about the organic growth naturally taking place with this soulful weekly event in our neighborhood. As one of the largest and most popular markets in Central Oregon, it just might become your summer Saturday
morning ritual (see page 10 for more details)! And why spend a beautiful Central Oregon summer evening indoors watching a movie? NorthWest Crossing’s Compass Park is again the host site of the popular NorthWest Crossing Munch & Movies outdoor cinema series, spanning four weeks in late summer (turn to page 13 to see what flicks are going to be on the big screen!). Add to all this triathlons, concerts in the park, home tours and we’ve got a jam-packed season sure to keep you grinning from ear-to-ear all summer long. In fact, the name Mosley Wotta is a play on words—we are all "mostly water,” no matter what defines our external casing. The Taste of the Season Weekly Recipe, back with tasty new dishes! Each week we will promote a recipe that features local ingredients from one or more of our Saturday Farmer Market vendors. Our goal is to share with our customers a new recipe that perhaps introduces a new food or technique, help support our local vendors, and have fun sharing ways to celebrate the fresh bounty available at our weekly market. Look for the “Taste of the Season” recipes on www.nwxfarmersmarket.com, and Facebook, as well as at the Information Booth each Saturday at the Farmers Market. To whet your appetite, below is a simple and refreshing recipe for a summer treat. Bon Appétit!
WATeRMelon-leMonADe ice pops Servings: 8 Ingredients: 2 cups (packed) finely chopped seeded watermelon ¾ cup frozen lemonade concentrate (half 12-oz. can), thawed 3 tablespoons sugar Pinch of salt Directions: Combine all ingredients in processor. Puree until very smooth. Divide mixture among 8 ice pop molds (each about ¼ to ⅓ cup capacity). Cover and freeze until firm, at least 4 hours and up to 5 days. With the waning of summer and the closing days of the Bend Memorial Clinic Munch & Music Free Music in the Park Series, the NorthWest Crossing Munch & Movies Free Movies in the Park Series picks up with new family-friendly festivities starting Friday nights in August. The event officially starts at 6:00pm with live performances by local musicians — with each night featuring a different musical guest who will double as the MC for the evening. Movies will begin at dusk and there will be a brief intermission. There will be dinner food, dessert, and kettle korn available from one of many restaurants on site. Relax in the park, under the stars in front of the Tetherow Lodges Dream Theater's 60-foot outdoor movie screen featuring recent favorites and one to teach a new generation about. Be sure to come early to find a good parking spot, and bring a coat as the nights can get chilly. We also recommend you bring a blanket to sit on or a low-backed chair, so it does not block the view of others enjoying the film.
