Free Live Concert June 20th, 11am | Todd Habby Todd Habby will kick off the NorthWest Crossing Saturday Farmers Market with his signature Nuevo flamenco Latin group, Sola Via. One of the most sought after talents on the West Coast, Todd performs to sold out shows at national music festivals, theaters and concert halls.

Born in Northern California, Todd's musical influences came at a young age from his mother who taught him and six other siblings the basics of music and music theory.

At the age of 15, Todd received a guitar for a birthday present, not knowing that it would be a truly life-changing event.

Within six months, after hours of practice, Todd had formed his first band as the lead guitarist. Over the next three years, he delved into many opportunities such as live concerts, club performances, and even radio circulation of his work.

When Todd was 18, he was asked to perform with the prestigious Grammy Awardwinning artist Phil Driscoll. When he was 24, Todd was introduced to the sounds of Spain, which proved to be a truly momentous occasion in his musical path.

Attracted by the fiery passion of Latin music, this would mark a turning point in Todd's musical direction. With a growing love of Spanish music and the fortunate opportunity to travel abroad, Todd developed a unique style all his own.

From the riffs he learned as a kid listening to Eddie Van Halen, to the explosive sounds of the Gypsy Kings, Todd has combined all of his musical experiences to write and define a flavor of music indicative of Nuevo Flamenco.

Free Live Concert September 19th, 12pm | Curtis Salgado Join us for the finale weekend of the 2015 NorthWest Crossing Saturday Farmers Market featuring the tunes of Curtis Salgado.

Award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado sings and plays with soulful authority, never giving less than 100 percent. He plays each and every show like it’s the most important gig of his career. He recalls the time when his friend, the great chitlin’ circuit singer Buddy Ace, put on the show of his life, singing his heart out, making three costume changes, all while playing at a casual house party. Salgado was floored. “I was just there playing with my band, hanging out in cut-offs and a t-shirt, and there’s Buddy treating the gig the same as if he was performing at the Apollo,” he says. From that moment on, Curtis vowed that every time he got on stage he would deliver his very best shot.

Our market stage features talented local, regional and even international entertainers, with sounds that vary each week.

In addition there are musicians busking on the streets and sidewalks, including students from the Stringtheory from Cascade School of Music. Don’t miss our rotation of guest chefs serving up tasty bites, as well as other food, wellness and garden experts sharing new ideas and information to our market guests. Our popular Taste of the Season weekly recipe is back with 14 delicious new recipe ideas on how to use market bounty in new and unexpected ways. Each week a new recipe,

using ingredients from market vendors will be featured on our website and Facebook page (be sure to LIKE us to stay in the know!), as well as at the market itself.

Much of our market’s success is based on the enthusiastic and hard-working slate of farmers and vendors that serve up fresh produce, meats, cheeses, eggs, flowers, hand-crafted items and tasty food and drink each week. Taste of the Season Weekly Recipe: The Taste of the Season Weekly Recipe is back with tasty new dishes!

Each week we will promote a recipe that features local ingredients from one or more of our Saturday Farmer Market vendors. Our goal is to share with our customers a new recipe that perhaps introduces a new food or technique, help support our local vendors, and have fun sharing ways to celebrate the fresh bounty available at our weekly market. Look for the “Taste of the Season” recipes on the NorthWest Crossing website, and Facebook page, as well as at the Information Booth each Saturday at the Farmers Market. To whet your appetite, below is a simple and refreshing recipe for a summer treat. Bon Appétit!

INGREDIENTS For the Beets: 2 red beets, peeled and cut into 1/2inch cubes 1 small red onion, diced into 1/2-inch cubes 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon agave nectar Salt and cracked pepper to taste For the Salad: 6-8 cups chopped kale 2-3 cups cooked wild rice, kept warm 2-3 grilled chicken breasts, diced and kept warm Roasted beets (above) Balsamic vinaigrette 4 oz good-quality goat cheese, crumbled 2 cup raw or roasted chopped pecans PREPARATION For the Beets: Preheat the broiler. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients and toss to coat well. Place everything on a rimmed baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and broil until the beets are well browned and the onions are caramelized, 7–8 minutes. Keep a close eye on the cooking, because all broilers are different. Once the beets have browned, carefully cover them with another sheet of foil and continue to broil for 5–7 more minutes, or until they have softened slightly. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool to room temperature. (This step can be done ahead of time.)

For the Salad: Start by combining the kale, rice, chicken, and beets in a large salad bowl.

Drizzle in the desired amount of vinaigrette, and toss well to coat all of the kale with dressing. Serve with crumbled goat cheese and pecans on top.

Resident Buskers

As you wander our NorthWest Crossing Saturday Farmers Market you will bump into the vibrance of our three resident busking performers. The first station features Lino and his world guitar fusion blend, the second station features Miguel De Alonso, and his authentic Latin flamenco sounds, and the third station features youth musicians from Joe Schulte's String Theory class. The market is proud to support these young musicians! Please support all of our buskers by making donations to them if you enjoy their market sounds.

Central Oregon Locavore Market Center Spotlight

Central Oregon Locavore has created a weekly educational spotlight featuring a market vendor who will present education of their product and awareness in consumption and resourceful living. The Market Spotlight will take place each week between the live music sets (late morning). Often the demonstration will be accomplianied with yummy samples, so you won't want to miss out! About Central Oregon Locavore:

Central Oregon Locavore is a local, community-based nonprofit established in 2009, located near downtown Bend, serving both food producers and consumers throughout Central Oregon.

Locavore operates a year-round indoor farmer’s marketplace which features freshly harvested produce, organic grass-fed meats, free-range eggs, local honey, locally made value added products such as salsa, sauces, and many environmentally-conscious products for sustainable living.

In addition to ​the​marketplace, ​Locavore also​operate​s​a number of programs including Farm Kids!,Willing Workers on Local Farms, Edible Adventure Crew, Small Farmer Support Program,​ and farm-to-table dinners such as ​Meet Your Farmer ​Dinner Series​ and Community Supper quarterly celebrations. These programs serve to connect and educate community members to the loca​​l​​foodscape​​of Central Oregon and provide a platform for support and celebration.​ The High Desert Food and Farm Alliance (HDFFA) is dedicated to supporting a community based food system in Central Oregon. New this year to the market, HDFFA will collect fresh food donations to help augment non-perishable food items in the pantry system. Currently, there is a push by the Oregon Food Bank to increase the number of fresh foods available at regional food banks and to partner pantries by 50% over the next five years. In Central Oregon, HDFFA is partnering with NeighborImpact, to help drive this change.

Among their many programs, they operate the food distribution center for over thirty food pantries and shelves in the region.

The collection point at the NorthWest Crossing Saturday Farmers Market will also serve as a location for backyard gardeners to bring their extra garden vegetables. Please join us in supporting this very worthy endeavor for our community!

August 8th is Kids Day at the Farmers Market. The day kicks off with the return of the popular NorthWest Crossing Kids Crit, presented by Umpqua Bank at 10am. Participation is free and open to kids 11 and under, but pre-registration is required at the NorthWest Crossing Umpqua Bank store. The course is around the uniquely round Compass Park, located in the heart of NorthWest Crossing. Participants are grouped by age and prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each category. Free ice cream from Umpqua Bank provides a very cool and yummy finish! Â After the races, head down the street to the market where (for this special weekend only) a variety of bouncy houses await.

And, as usual, the petting zoo and pony rides are available to keep curious kids occupied. Stop by the Information Booth to get a Kids Day Scavenger Hunt form. Complete the hunt and return it to the Info Booth to receive a free prize!

MUNCH & MOVIES FREE MOVIES IN COMPASS PARK FRIDAYS AUGUST 21ST -SEPTEMBER 11TH Compass Park, NorthWest Crossing Drive With the waning of summer and the closing days of the Munch & Music Free Movies in the Park Series, the NorthWest Crossing Munch & Movies Free Movies in the Park Series picks up with new family friendly festivities starting Friday nights in August. The event officially starts at 6:00pm with live performances by local musicians - with each night featuring a different musical guest who will double as the emcee for the evening. Movies will begin at dusk and there will be a brief intermission. There will be dinner food, dessert, and kettle korn available from one of many restaurants on site. Relax in the park, under the stars in front of a 60 foot outdoor movie screen featuring recent favorites and one to teach a new generation about.

Be sure to come early to find a good parking spot, and bring a coat as the nights can get chilly. We also recommend you bring a blanket to sit on or a low-backed chair, so it does not block the view of others enjoying the film.
