REP STAGE PLAY READING ➤ Monday, May 1, 7-8:30pm All She Must Possess
By Susan McCully • Directed by Joseph Ritsch Presented by Rep Stage of Howard Community College
Columbia Art Center is pleased to host the Rep Stage’s rehearsal reading of Susan McCully’s play, All She Must Possess. As a member of the audience, enjoy viewing a rehearsal reading of the play by the actors. All She Must Possess centers on the Baltimore Cone sisters, Dr. Claribel and Miss Etta, daughters of German-Jewish immigrants. Instead of living tranquil, appropriate lives as respected Victorian ladies, the iconic duo voraciously collected art and curios from around the world. The unassuming Etta, often overshadowed by her sister, sat demurely among art and literary geniuses of the early 20th century while slowly amassing one of world’s greatest Modern Art collections. The play is a highly theatrical celebration of Etta’s extraordinary life.

➤ Monday, June 5, 7-8:30pm Ceramics Panel Discussion: New Technology in an Age-Old Art
Computer technology enables seamless, hands-free production of ceramic objects, allowing precision form and exact reproduction. But what is the downside to the loss of tactile interaction between ceramics artist and materials? Does smart technology further an artist’s reach or stand between artist and inspiration? When does handmade transition to computer-generated? Does it matter? Enjoy an evening panel discussion among recognized ceramics artists, including those exhibiting in Columbia’s 50th ARTrospective June exhibition in Columbia Art Center. For more information, please call 410-730-0075, email Art.Staff@ColumbiaAssociation.org or visit ColumbiaArtCenter.org. All events held at Columbia Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth.

HISTORY LECTURES ART STYLES REFRESHER: WHICH “ISM” IS IT? With Ann Wiker, art historian, artist and instructor for Johns Hopkins’ Osher program and Howard Community College During the Renaissance, artists made great strides in presenting realism in their artwork. The paintings from this time looked more like the real world and had believable depth and figures that actually looked human. With the introduction of modern art, the whole purpose of art changed; artists were no longer interested in using their canvases as a window to the world, but were instead focused on the canvas as a surface for their thoughts and ideas and feelings. As a result, there was an explosion of art styles: impressionism, Fauvism, expressionism, surrealism, Dada, minimalism and many more. What influenced the creation of some of these styles? What do the styles look like? Who were some of the artists practicing each of these styles? This course provides a refresher on the history of art styles.
