Jack-O-lantern Vokaroo
We walk through the rows Looking for the perfect one One catches our eyes We twist the stem until it snaps And take it home in the back of the truck We stick in the knife and cut the top To reveal the smells and sights The goop is dug out with all the seeds A cruel face appears the way we please Out in front illuminating the night As kids in disguises get their candy Under the full moon with warm crunchy seeds We love the time of Halloween

I walked out onto the airstrip Approaching the black car sitting in position I shut the door take a deep breath I turn on the engine my heart beating to the chug of the motor and the spin of the prop I gain speed starting at a running pace into a race car now the vehicle bumping on the asphalt Then smooth it felt like a roller coaster my stomach dancing around It’s a breathtaking sight out the windows of the rolling hills and winding roads The land is now being swallowed up by the big cotton balls in the sky Cutting through above them now I wish it could be true as I wake up in my bed my dog snoring at my feet someday I say
Mr. Mickles Pickles Vokaroo
Mr. Mickles is my neighbor He has a garden He grows pickles Not any flowers or apples at all Just pickles and pickles grown green and bumpy He sets up a stand to sell all his produce Like pickle pies and jellies which nobody buys The only customers are maybe the flies But if any eat all of them die He doesn’t care we hate his pickles Everyone loves them at the state fair One pickle he grows in-between them all One he calls Martha very big and tall He adds some concoction and hopes she’ll grow And keeps an eye out for the crows At the fair people stare At the massive pickle a blue ribbon on its side With Mr. Mickle smiling with pride
