Prismatic A collection of poems By Shiloh
Happy Happy, an ear to ear grin that you can't help smiling back to Happy, like a dog stretched out on his back in the grass As the rays of the sun shine down on him Happy, the smell of a new book That reaches your nose as you excitedly open it for the first time Your mind hungry for its words, feelings and memories Happy, listening to your favorite song on repeat Happy, scraping the cookie dough batter out of the bowl And straight into your mouth Happy, the feeling of hot sand beneath your toes And the sound of the crashing waves filling your ears Happy, staying in your pajamas for an entire day Happy, kids pounding down the stairs on Christmas morning Happy, the crisp air encompassing me, stinging my cheeks Happy, blowing out the candles and making a wish Happy, falling asleep to the sound of raindrops Beat, beat beating on the roof Happy, like heat lightning dancing across the sky on a summer night Sending a shock of exhilaration up your spine Happy, it’s more than just a feeling. It’s a memory.

Lady In Waiting Staring off into to space My sweaty-palmed hands clenched together Gripping tighter and tighter Frenzied figures flashing past Slinking through the wings And bumping into me in their hast Hushed voices surround me. http://vocaroo.com/i/s0D78U5OQ4Jv I close my eyes as tight as I can, trying to concentrate My mind an old record player Replaying the steps over and over and over again The sound of my heart beating rapidly is all I can hear, Drowning out the loud bursts of music filling the air I'm restless with nervous energy Jumping up and down and pacing Back and forth Back and forth through the dark. I look over to the audience and a wave of dizziness suddenly comes over me I stumble back like I was just punched in the stomach, hard I'm frozen in my stance Humming the tune flowing from the stereo positioned feet from me Is all I can do to keep my mind off, what seems like my impending doom I feel the heat of lights creep up my leg As I inch closer to the edge of the wing. I tighten my ponytail with one hard pull; Take on last deep breath and force a smile As I take my first step into the bright lights and face the audience All of my doubt fades away And my true smile comes through.
Fall: The Period from the Autumnal Equinox to the Winter Solstice Hauling fleecy jackets and silky scarves out of depths of your closet. The days get shorter and the air gets crisper Vibrant leaves dance through the sky The breeze manipulating them as though there were strings attached to their stems Swaying them side to side And up and down Before making their spiraling descent towards the ground Landing on those who had fallen before them. Fields of wild flowers desperately reaching up towards the sun Before the frost takes over. Pumpkins gigantic and miniscule And everything in between Painted hues of rich orange Candles illuminating their insides, Light peeking through the carved holes. Strolling through corn mazes for hours And feeling the hay beneath you scratch your hands and legs As you watch the captivating scenery flash bye. Little fingers greedily snatching handfuls of candy Long into the night. Gazing up at the sky, You see a never ending canvas splattered with the most dazzling colors imaginable Hearing the leaves crunching under the weight our your feet As the heat of the latte you are holding Spreads through your fingertips and all the way to the heel of your palm Tall trees tower over you As you squint against the wind roaring at you with all its might Leaving your nose and ears cold to the touch, An unmistakable cherry red. Animals retract to their nests, holes and caves Preparing for months of slumber and cold Where the only comfort is the small amount of sunlight shining through the clouds Barely thawing the freeze. http://vocaroo.com/i/s0bMkkt6f17B
