What I Learned Knowledge Gained: Jacob Metcalf is a graduate of Texas A&M who took the Dme to come and talk with us as a group to give us his story and advice on his experience. He was quick to let us know that choosing the companies that offers more money isn’t always the be`er opDon.

Building ConstrucDon Science Program

Detailed InformaDon Hiang the high points: o

Choosing the right career path and job posiDon that fits you.

o

Learning the company and the people you may work for before hand.

o

Developing friendships and finding out your compaDbility with employees.

o

Finding the company that appreciates you and the work you do.

o

Know that the money should not be the deciding factor in choosing the right job for you.

Building ConstrucDon Science Program

Freshmen Knowledge you should know as a freshman: o  Take the opportuniDes to internship or co-‐op any chance you get. o  Learn from each company and what you like or don’t like about them. o  Find a company willing to invest in you and your future. o  Ask the companies where they see you in the next 5 years. o  Build relaDonships with each company and friendships.

Building ConstrucDon Science Program

Finding An Exit Strategy Exit Strategy: An exit strategy is finding another company to work for just in case something goes bad with the company you work for now. o  When is the best Dme to start looking for your next job? -‐ The first day you are hired.
