UNDERSTANDING THE MEDIA ASSAULT ON MEXICO Before jumping in with how ridiculous the safety in Mexico topic is, lets first discuss “Mexico.” It is the misuse of the word Mexico that has blown this subject way out of proportion. Mexico is a country, and a very large nation at that, spanning nearly 500 million acres. Within Mexico, there are 31 states and within those states are scores of cities and towns. The majority of the world’s mainstream media however, seems to be either insensitive or oblivious to this fact. It is constant and unrelenting, as if every square mile of Mexico is unsafe. If an incident occurs in Mexico, most media outlets do not

emphasize the city and state of the episode. Instead, the fear mongers keep it simple, generalizing and typecasting the incident into one simple word, “Mexico.” It is not odd for people living in a mediadriven society, such as the US, to be concerned about traveling to Mexico, not while in an earshot of mainstream media’s relentless assault on Mexico. If I were still living in the US today, I would probably feel the same anxiety about traveling south of the border. The US media really is that good –its power and money are massive and its influence can move vast majorities of the entire world.

CABO IN RELATION TO REAL DANGER To understand safety in Cabo, one must first posess geographical knowledge of Mexico. The majority of Mexico’s physical area is actually safe. There are only areas, epicenters if you will, which should be respected as potentially dangerous regions. Knowing where Mexico’s danger zones are, in comparison to Los Cabos is key to understanding how safe Cabo actually is. The core of Mexico’s violence is drug related and takes place in the city of Juarez (pronounced hWA-rez) in the northern state of Chihuahua. Juarez is actually only two
like Juarez, lies a significant social divide too. The majority of the violence in Juarez and other danger zones near the Mexico-US border are associated with the trafficking of narcotics into the US. Unless you are planning to infiltrate Mexico and take a crack at the drug trade, then it is even more unlikely that you will find yourself in a violent drug related clash.
SHOULD YOU VISIT CABO? If you are reading this article here in Cabo, congratulations, you are in paradise. You are probably nodding your head in agreement while sipping a margarita, and looking forward to sharing this

miles from El Paso, Texas –yes in the US, and some 1,800+ miles (by car) away from sunny Los Cabos, at the southernmost tip of Baja. In fact, the US cities of Tucsan, Phoenix and Palm Springs are all far closer to Juarez than Los Cabos is. Not only is Los Cabos many miles from the core of Mexico’s drug violence, but Los Cabos is, historicallyspeaking, a very safe group of cities in the equally safe state of Baja California Sur. Beyond the substantial physical separations between Los Cabos and violent hot spots
article with your skeptical peers that warned you of dangerous Mexico before you came. If you are not here, then you will have to decide that for yourself. As for me, I have lived here for nearly six years now and have absolutely no plans to leave any time soon. Before Cabo, I enjoyed life in Boca Raton, Chicago, Del Mar, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Oshkosh and beyond, and I can honestly say that I feel just as safe or even more so here in Los Cabos, Mexico –home sweet home.

BUSSES MEXICO ALONE!
“I feel more comfortable in [Mexico’s] bus terminals and destinations than I would in the United States.”
T
he first adjectives that come to mind when you meet Maxine Van Slyke are genteel, soft spoken and demure. She might even be called “a bit prissy” and “quite particular.” However you cut it, she is no vagabond, gypsy or backpacker and hardly the type of person you’d imagine has been exploring Mexico and Latin America on buses for the past six years, but that’s exactly what she’s been doing. At seventy-one Maxine is securely ensconced in a comfortable retirement. She owns a lovely house on a quiet golf course in Bend, Oregon, and pays periodic visits to her only child, a daughter who lives in Sacramento. Ms. Van Slyke had a career in Human Resources in several federal agencies in several different states including Alaska. This last fact may have something to do with how she began her ongoing odyssey.
20
HOLIDAY 2010 | CABO-SOCIAL.COM
Six years ago, Maxine had a free ticket on Alaska Airlines and wanted to use it to visit San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico. However, the closest Alaska would take her was Guadalajara which is almost two hundred miles away, too near for another flight, too far for a shuttle or cab. No passenger train runs to San Miguel these days, but buses run everywhere in Mexico. Maxine was wary. She’d heard that some Mexican bus drivers are disappointed matadors out to exercise their machismo on the open road, and others build such elaborate shrines to the Virgin of Guadalupe on their dash boards that they can’t see through the wind shields. She had visions of passing on blind mountain curves and plunging into bottomless canyons. But she asked all the travelers she knows about busing around Mexico, and “no one who had
ever done it had any reservations; everyone who had reservations had never done it.” In addition, there were no reasonable alternatives, so Maxine steeled herself and bought a first class ticket. Needless to say, the trip was a revelation. Maxine compares the Mexican first class bus to a European tourist coach, complete with reclining airplane seats that have foot rests, air conditioning, a clean bathroom, movies that passengers can listen to with earphones, cold drinks, a perfectly adequate box lunch and a professional, more than adequate driver. Ms. Van Slyke’s first bus ride was so successful that she has taken many more. She started with a short trip to nearby Guanajuato and on to Zacatecas. Later she traveled from Morelia around Mexico City to Taxco. She also explored the southern states of Yucatan and Chiapas and visited the remote and beautiful Mayan ruins at Palenque. In 2008 she traveled by bus from one end of Ecuador to the other and took a separate guided trip following “the volcano trail” from Costa Rica through Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala. In Guatemala she was once stranded alone on a remote boat dock in Lake Atitlan waiting for a water taxi. That is about as untoward an event as has happened to her in her wanderings and as luck would have it, it was in “one of the most beautiful places” she’d ever been. This past winter she was back in San Miguel de Allende and then went on through Mexico City to spend a few weeks in Oaxaca. But has she ever traveled by Greyhound in the United States? She crinkles her nose. “These buses aren’t very nice, are they?”
Maxine boards bus in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Evolve or Vanish
SO WHY TRAVEL BY BUS IN MEXICO?
In addition to being clean and comfortable, Mexican buses are cheap. A first class ticket, for instance, from Oaxaca to Veracruz, a trip that takes seven hours, costs about thirty-three dollars; the average cost is about five dollars per hour of travel. It’s also a way to truly experience the Mexican culture because it’s the way many Mexicans travel. And it’s safe. Ms. Van Slyke says of herself, “It isn’t that I never take risks, but I want any risk to be an informed, educated one. Riding buses in Mexico is not high risk unless you make it so.” To avoid that happening, Maxine has rules for anyone, especially single women, traveling by bus in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
1 Dress conservatively. Don’t wear flashy jewelry. 2 Wear a money belt under your clothing. 3 Limit and lock luggage. 4 Travel during the day. The daughter of a friend of Maxine’s was on a night bus in remote Chiapas that was stopped and robbed by banditos. Also, animals are occasionally encountered on Mexican roads and are hard to see at night as is the scenery. 5 Make hotel reservations so you don’t have to depend on cab drivers to find a room.
Elusive
6 Make liberal use of guidebooks and the internet to plan your trip; know where you are going. 7 Be flexible, open minded to new experiences and ready to adapt or change your plans if you want or need to. 8 Learn some Spanish. Even a little will do; when she started her bus travel, Ms. Van Slyke spoke virtually none. Now she is a constant student (it is one of the reasons that she goes to Mexico) who describes her proficiency as “not good enough” or “intermediate,” but she is quick to say that a few well chosen words or phrases will get you through.
The most common question Maxine gets is, “Aren’t you afraid of drug violence?” Her answer is direct and logical, as is she. “Not really. I feel more comfortable in [Mexico’s] bus terminals and destinations than I would in the United States. Occasionally I check internet maps for areas of drug violence, but most of my travel is in southern Mexico rather than on the border. It’s a big country.” And she points out that virtually no ordinary American citizens on vacation in Mexico have been killed. So what’s next for Maxine Van Slyke? She has rented a pretty apartment in a quiet, flower filled courtyard in Oaxaca for the winter of 2011, to continue studying Spanish and to further her love affair with Mexico and the Mexican people. Her eventual goal is to winter in Campeche, an off the beaten track UNESCO World Heritage City and seaport on the Gulf Coast that she found in her travels, and work there as a volunteer English teacher. Knowing her, I’m pretty sure she’ll do it, and if she does, I think I know how she’ll get there.

Now that “The Hills” has finished it’s run, Patridge has teamed with legendary producer Mark Burnett to produce a new reality series, which will introduce fans to her family, and show a different side of her life. Patridge, an aspiring actress, made her debut on the big screen last fall in the thriller “Sorority Row.” Other films include “Into the Blue 2” and “Honey 2.” Patridge also tested her hand at comedy, appearing in an episode of the Fox sitcom “Do Not Disturb,” and a skit on “MAD TV.” Last summer, Patridge

made headlines as she steamed up TV screens in a commercial for Carl’s Jr. And this July, Audrina unleashed her inner supermodel, as she became this fall’s “Bongo Girl.” With her strong commitment to her career, Audrina enjoys every possible opportunity to relax and unwind in Los Cabos, Mexico. As you will learn, Audrina enjoys Cabo’s closeness to LA and frequents our community so much that she is practically a “local”.
When and where are you happiest? I am most happy when I’m on the beach with my friends and family, relaxing and enjoying life. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being stress free, phoneless, surrounded by the ones you love – good music, good scenery, good food and no set schedule! Which living person do you most admire? I admire my father – he is my hero and is such an amazing person. What is your greatest fear? Anything that has to do with paranormal activity freaks me out! What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I am a people pleaser! I always want to make sure everyone is having a good time, sometimes at my own expense. I have to work on saying “no” more frequently. What is your greatest extravagance? I recently bought a Chanel surfboard for $5,000! Hopefully one day I’ll actually use it.
Bongo campaign ads were shot by famed photographer Tony Duran
Which words or phrases do you most overuse? I catch myself saying “oh my gosh” a lot! I also say “geez!” and “really?” I tried to wean myself off the word “like,” I used to say it in “like” every sentence -a bad habit I picked up from being on The Hills. Which talent would you most like to have? I would love to be musically talented – able to pick up any instrument and play it. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I would not be such a worrywart! What is the quality you most like in a man? A good sense of humor! A guy can be extremely handsome, but if he doesn’t have a good sense of humor it’s just not gonna work! What is the quality you most admire in a woman? I find it amazing how a woman’s body can create and nourish another human being. That is beautiful! I also love how intuitive women tend to be.
. Audrina in Cabo, 2009
What do you most value in your friends? Honesty and trust. What is your motto? I think James Dean was onto something when he said: Dream as if you will live forever, live as if you will die today. What is your secret talent? Hmmm… according to a funny quiz, I can write with my nose! In real life, I am double jointed in my shoulders and thumbs. I don’t know if you’d call that a talent though! What super power do you wish you had? I would love to fly – then I would never be late for anything! If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would live on a tropical island. What is your favorite junk or pig out food? In & Out burgers, or pizza with ranch (and I put a little Tapatio in my ranch)! Yummmy! What is your favorite dessert? Vanilla ice-cream and fresh berries. How often do you visit Los Cabos, Mexico? I love Cabo! So far, I have been four times this year. I love to go when I have a long 3 or 4 day weekend, because it’s such an easy trip from L.A. Where is your favorite place to stay in here? I usually stay at Casa Dorada – it’s close to town and lively! If I want to stay away from town, and be a little more isolated I stay at Las Ventanas. Favorite bar in Los Cabos? My favorite bar is definitely Baja Junkie! I love Jon and Krissy. It’s really fun, and friendly – and the food is great! Favorite nightclub in Los Cabos? That would have to be Pink Kitty. Favorite Restaurant in Los Cabos? I love La Golondrina. Favorite things to do in Cabo? Definitely water activities!
CELEBRITIES LOVE CABO Newlyweds, Jennifer and Adam Archuleta, enjoying the moment on the beach at Esperanza in Cabo San Lucas this past March. Their wedding was planned by Infinity Weddings Los Cabos: www.infintyweddingscabo.com. Photo: James Creighton
JENNIFER ARCHULETA
(AKA JENNIFER WALCOTT) Jennifer’s resume is broad; she was in “American Pie Presents Boot Camp,” “American Summer” and has also appeared in a variety of television shows, calendars, and magazine covers, such as Muscle and Fitness. But what put Jennifer on the map was her Playboy Playmate feature as Miss August 2001. This past March, Jennifer’s last name changed, when she married NFL safety, Adam Archuletta right here in beautiful Los Cabos, Mexico. It is a new chapter for Jennifer and she is excited to start it as Mrs. Jennifer Archuletta. Cabo Social caught up with her to learn more and get her take on Cabo, Mexico.
What time do you start your day each morning? Three days a week I start my morning at 4:50 am, so I can go to a Mommy’s boot camp any other day it starts at 7:00. My son wakes at 8:00!
What trait do you most deplore in others? When people do not take responsibility for their actions. On what occasion do you lie? When I don’t want to hurt someone. But a lie is a lie and if I tell one, I usually come clean… it will always catch up to you big or small. What do you most dislike about your appearance? My breast implants. What is your favorite journey?
Life, because you cannot plan it, and most of what happens is a surprise and out of your control. What is your greatest regret?
Trying to grow up to fast.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
My son.
What is your current state of mind?
Peaceful.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

What is your favorite junk or pig out food? Chips.
That we lived in the same state.
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what would it be?
What is your favorite dessert? I would rather eat fries.
An astronaut. I have always been fascinated by space.
How often do you visit Los Cabos? Once a year at least.
What is your favorite holiday? What is your most treasured possession?
When did you last visit Cabo? And, when are you coming back? This past March. Maybe next year, same time for our anniversary.

Favorite place to stay in Los Cabos? Esperanza.
What is your greatest fear? Is not having enough time in my life to do the things I feel I am here to do.

Favorite Los Cabos nightclub? Squid Roe.
What historical figure do you most identify with? Mother Teresa.
Who are your favorite writers?
Khalil Gibran and Wayne Dyer.
Favorite thing(s) to do in Cabo? Lay out and jet ski.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? Perfect happiness to me is for the people in my life to be healthy. May sound cliché, but you can have money, a great job, etcetera, but if someone you love, or if you yourself are ill, nothing else matters.
Which living people do you most admire? My parents. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? That I can never compliment myself.
Easter.
My heart. My abs.
Support.
Who is your hero? Me. I have had to save myself quite a few times. What do you prefer, an iPod or Blackberry? Or other? iPhone but I’m sick of technology all together.
What do you LOVE about Los Cabos? The people and of course the beautiful beaches. What do you want to be remembered for? My heart of gold.

IT’S ALL ABOUT CALORIES
daily fitness and/or weight-training program will work best if planned around these numbers.
INVOLVE THE WHOLE FAMILY
Whether you are losing or gaining weight, it all comes down to calories. The law of thermodynamics is that simple –calories in, versus calories out. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. If you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight.
GET MOVING
Play a game outside with the family after a meal. Start a new family tradition and take a brisk walk every day –at a speed you would walk if you were late to catch the bus. If you have bad knees or other sore joints, swimming or water aerobics are a wonderful alternative. Another fun and overlooked exercise is dancing; turn on some good music and dance for an hour –make sure everyone builds up a good sweat.
Keeping a food log with a calorie count is essential if your goal is to lose weight. Without a food log you’re simply guessing how many calories you’re taking in. Utilizing your food log like a pro is as simple as finding out your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), which indicates the number of calories your body burns at a normal resting rate over a 24-hour period. A qualified health educator or practitioner can obtain your BMR, then assist you in attaining your ideal body composition for optimal health and wellbeing. Your
Exercise is the best tool to help you burn extra calories and loose weight. If you exercise for 30 minutes a day, try increasing it to 45 minutes. If you exercise three times a week, increase it to five times a week. If you have an elliptical, stationary bike, or treadmill, dust it off and put it in front of your TV or radio for some entertainment while you exercise.
You can lose 10 pounds a year by burning an

THE BASICS Or, if you are looking for something more basic, pushups and jumping jacks should not be overlooked; both are great strength builders and calorie burners!
AND OF COURSE, WE ALL LIKE TO EAT Now that you know how to move, let’s talk about food. Whether you are looking at losing, gaining or maintaining your weight, food counts for 70% of the game. If you’re going to indulge, make sure it’s the very best food you can buy and not simply junk. Always choose quality over quantity. LA Chef Heidi Swanson publishes amazingly delicious and nutritious desserts at www.101cookbooks.com. Savor each delicious mouthful by eating very slowly, put your fork down between bites, or make it a game with the kids to see who’s going to chew the most per bite. You will not only teach them the value of connecting and appreciating the taste of food, you will all end up eating less too. Avoid grocery shopping when you’re hungry –you may end up buying more of what you don’t need.
EAT FIRST Never arrive at a party or a social function when you’re hungry, especially if food is being served. A half hour before you
leave, grab a healthy snack. When you arrive at the party, socialize instead of hovering over the food table. Focus your energies on making conversation with others rather than on food. Conversation is calorie-free.
DON’T SKIP MEALS Don’t skip a meal to save room for traditional holiday meals. That could lead to over eating and a bigger craving for dessert.
BALANCE ALCOHOL INTAKE For those who indulge, alcohol is loaded with calories and tends to increase one’s appetite. Again, it is the quality of the drink that is important, not the quantity. Drink at least one large glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you ingest –this will help you reduce your consumption, while staying well hydrated. Your head will thank you the next morning too. Favor red over white wine, for its heart-
healthy properties. Avoid high calorie sodas by substituting them with club soda, or try a dry martini or a shot of good quality tequila instead. Go ahead, have your favorite drink, but take small sips, make it last longer and you will take in fewer calories and feel healthier at the same time. And of course, don’t forget to drink responsibly. A NEW CABO STANDARD
T
he Cabo San Lucas dining scene has improved a great deal over the last year, with the advent of many new restaurants and menus, and the newly opened Flavor is leading the pack. Located on Marina Boulevard, smack dab in the middle of Cabo San Lucas, Flavor is the creation of Barrett Masso of Tulsa, Oklahoma –born and raised.

Barrett Masso
Masso first vacationed in Cabo in 1997, continued visiting often and in more recent years; he began dabbling in Cabo’s lucrative real estate market. In early 2009, Barrett was faced with an opportunity that his entrepreneurial instincts could not pass up, “I have always been fond of good food and dining and in Cabo, I saw a lack of design,
are equally divine, as is the wine list. As you look around, the open-air space continues to reveal itself. You cannot help but notice the particularly thick Canariensis palm trees, chisel-cut granite tables, contemporary paintings; the details of which are carefully highlighted with dramatic lighting. Several of Flavor’s most popular include: octopus mango ceviche, with ginger, habanero, lime, cilantro, onion and garlic, served with oven-baked plantain and corn chips ($12). Moroccan braised lamb sliders, with plum tomatoes, goat cheese, purple
“THE DREAM WAS A PLACE WHERE MEMORIES ARE CREATED.” quality food and service –it was an opportunity knocking.” Soon after, Masso, along with his partners, began constructing Flavor. From the outside looking in, Flavor is impressive, but stepping in is even more remarkable. Upon entering, Flavor’s chic, alfresco design begins to unfold. A beautiful under and backlit onyx bar (and lounge area) is in the front, an ideal place to meet for drinks and enjoy Flavor’s tasty ceviches before a night out. Be sure to try their very special infusion drinks; your choice of Vodka (with mango, chili and ginger), Rum (with pear, cinnamon and vanilla) or Tequila (with pineapple and spearmint) are fused in giant glass jars, for weeks before serving, shaping a refreshing and delicious blend, with what seams to be an innocent proportion of alcohol. But watch it, the fusion drinks at Flavor sneak up on you. The cocktails on the extensive drink menu
design attributes is a cunningly designed fire pit, which is more of a reflective waterwall, adorned with fire. And as if the visual sensations were not enough, Flavor heightens one’s audio pallet too, as modern electronic lounge music resets the chi of its patrons. Mark Farina fans (for those in the know) will be in auditory paradise. Topping Flavor’s aesthetic appeal is a menu flavorful enough to stand on its own. Working with Barrett, Executive Chef Douglas Wodja designed a Mediterranean based menu, showcasing timeless staples while simultaneously integrating culinary themes from around the world. Quality over quantity is Flavor’s focus, offering 20 to 25 carefully thought out menu selections. A collection of distinctive ceviches, delectable plates (designed to share), delicious entrées and yummy deserts await you at Flavor; served with
potato fries dressed in truffle oil and parmesan cheese ($20). A grilled to perfection Angus slider is also available. Frenched chicken breast, with apricot couscous, asparagus and rosemary pan juice ($20). Flavor has achieved its vision, in more ways than one. Flavor’s website (www. flavorcabo.com) sums it up best, where Masso shares, “Some of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in my life were created while sharing a meal with those I cared for. The great food and drink, the music, the lighting, the service, and the occasion all set the stage for the moments we shared and the memories that were created. The dream was not to just create a place to get a good drink or bite to eat, but more so a place where memories are created.” Reserve today! Call 624 143 5501. RESTAURANT REINVENTED GREENBERGS, ON THE MARINA
I
n October of 1997, David Greenberg and his partner Jim Sutter opened the very first Senor Greenberg’s, Cabo’s first “Mexicatessen”, a deli and diner, with Mexican flair. They served old-fashioned shakes, egg sandwiches, pancakes, New York style sandwiches and more. Greenberg’s did well, attracting a following of locals and visitors alike. For years Señor Greenberg’s grew, with the opening of several additional locations in central Cabo, and a brand name that everyone knew.
Greenberg’s new Ahi Tartare
Richard Sweeney A decade later, the tourist and local palate began to change. People began craving more sophisticated culinary fair. Señor Greenberg’s started to loose its momentum, and some of its customers too. David Greenberg took notice, “Faces began to disappear. I just wasn’t seeing some of our regulars who had been coming here for years.” David set out to reinvent his restaurant and accommodate the upgraded tastes that people desired. His first step was opening an all-new Cabo San Lucas marina location within Plaza Puerto Paraiso. This newly renovated restaurant would soon become Greenberg’s only location, allowing David to focus. Featuring a far more contemporary design, this new Señor Greenberg’s had a hipper theme, that of a contemporary eatery and cosmopolitan sports bar. Consecutively, David went about closing the other three Greenberg’s locations. With everything condensed to the new (and improved) marina location, David quickly overhauled all departments of his restaurant. Much was fazed out and eliminated, such as delivery. Only the things that made sense stayed. Reaching high, David contacted celebrity chef Richard Sweeney, who many of you may recognize from season five of
the television series, Top Chef. Greenberg’s Executive Chef Julio Cesar and Sweeney spent months bringing passion back into the Greenberg’s kitchen. What’s new on the menu? A lot. The Asian Beef Salad is delicious, with juicy Asian marinated flank steak, bell peppers and red onions, served on a bed of arugula and topped with sesame dressing. The Deconstructed Pizza is served
new momentum and is regularly busy, especially at lunch and dinner. Plus, David is beginning to see some of his old customers again. “The food is totally different now. I stopped eating here years ago, but my friend suggested I try it again,” says Paula, a reborn Greenberg’s customer who travels to Cabo regularly. Paula was not alone. Numerous tourists and locals were equally pleased with the atmosphere, overall service and the food. “I didn’t believe it,” said another Greenberg’s customer of the past, “but I decided to try it again and, yeah! I’m a big fan of the baby green salad and the Poblano soup.” I too am a new fan of Greenberg’s. My wife and I enjoy Greenberg’s for lunch and dinner often. We do think breakfast can improve, but David agrees, “I’m working on that. We have revamped lunch and dinner, now we are working on the breakfast menu.” That sounds great David. And if breakfast turns out like the rest of the menu, then it looks like you will be seeing more of us. The new Greenberg’s slogan could not be more appropriate, “Try Greenberg’s again, for the first time.” Casual and fun, Greenberg’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (8am to midnight). Live music is a recent addition too, call for details and reservations: 624 144 3805 or visit www.greenbergscabo.com.
“TRY GREENBERG’S AGAIN, FOR THE FIRST TIME.” with sides of roasted garlic, creamy goat cheese and tomato concasse, which you spread atop freshly baked Parmesan flatbread. Other popular temptations are the Sliders and Paninis, served with garlic fries. The menu goes on, with new fresh soups, delightful salads, mouth-watering entrees and yummy desserts. Armed with a new and top of the line restaurant, a retrained staff and a fresh menu, David made one more change –no more “Señor”. Yep from here on out, it is just “Greenberg’s”. Recently, it is obvious that David’s hard work has paid off. Greenberg’s has established

HOLIDAY INDULGENCES A MODEL’S PERSPECTIVE
BY CRISSTY SANTANA
Los Cabos is home to some of Mexico’s (and perhaps the world’s) most extravagant luxuries. With the holiday season here, I asked some of Cabo’s top models,

$20k Bottle Service “The ultimate Los Cabos gift would be a bottle of 4L Clase Azul Ultra for me and my crew, at PK’s best table in the house.” –Javier Arregui Pink Kitty was created with Cabo’s jetset crowd in mind, and has established itself as Cabo’s best bottle service club. Case in point... Clase Azul Ultra is an ultra-premium Extra Añejo, made from 100% Tequiliana Weber Blue Agave, double distilled, and aged a minimum of three years in heavily charred, handselected, Sherry Oak casks. This unrivaled Tequila is one of the finest ever produced. The decanter is a spectacular hand-made ceramic display, taking approximately 40 days to produce. The medallion is a hand-made pure Silver "Ley .925" by renowned artist Leon Fernandez, hand painted with pure Platinum paint by artist Tomas Saldivar, and a label of 24K Gold. Topped with a Pewter cap and stored in a fine wooden case hand-made by the awarded artisan Fernando Tanaka. If that is not enough, along with the bottle comes a set of gold Agave cufflinks (for gentlemen) and a golden agave pendant (for ladies). Perhaps the most unique feature is that there are only 10 of the $20,000 usd 4L bottles in the entire world! And Pink Kitty Nightclub owns one of the 10. If Tequila is not your thing, Pink Kitty also offers a 6L Moet for $5,000 usd, a 3L Cristal for $10,000 usd, and for $25,000 usd, you can be one of the world’s few to enjoy the coveted 6L Cristal. Reserve your table at Pink Kitty Nightclub, along with your $20,000 usd bottle of Clase Azul Ultra at 624 157 9423 or visit www.pinkkittycabo.com.

TWINS OF THE CEREMONIES
AT CABO’S SEXIEST ANNUAL CHARITY BALL
The twins explain:
ARE THERE PRIZES FOR THE CONTEST? “Of course. The ‘Pimp of the Year’ will win $750 dollars and the ‘Ho of the Year’ gets $1,500 dollars.
HOW DO YOU WIN? “By getting paid! This is how it works... Everyone who attends the event will receive several Pimp Cash bills. [Pimp Cash is like Monopoly money –it is fake money just for this event.] It will be your job to give your Pimp Cash to those you think deserve it most, such as the guy in the funkiest pimp costume, or maybe the sexiest pimpette. You can give all your Pimp Cash to one person, or spread them around. At 2am, whoever has the most Pimp Cash, is the winner!”
WHAT IF I RUN OUT OF PIMP CASH?

lorida’s queens of erotica, the Kamila Twins, will be two (of four) sexy mistresses of the ceremonies at this year’s 12th Annual Cabo Pimp N’ Ho Charity Ball this October 23rd at Pink Kitty Nightclub. This year’s Pimp N’ Ho offers a new and
fun twist to the ever-popular costume contest. “This year, the contest is 100% interactive,” says one of the twins. “And the best part is, all proceeds raised from the costume contest will go to a very important Los Cabos charity.” How will the contest work exactly?

“That is the best part. At the event, you can buy as much Pimp Cash as you want. The cost is only $1 dollar for each Pimp Cash, and 100% of all Pimp Cash proceeds will be donated to charity.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE BUY PIMP CASH? “It is designed to make the event fun and social. If you see a girl and you think she is hot, you can use Pimp Cash as your hook to talk to her. People will be having fun, perhaps doing ‘anything’ to earn some Pimp Cash too :)”

SAVORY HOLIDAY TRADITIONS
T
hanks to migration, immigration and tourism, our little fishing village of Los Cabos has been growing leaps and bounds, including the area’s culinary arts. Cabo’s new dining scene offers foodies Japanese, French, Mediterranean and almost anything in between including past and present traditions from around the world and Mexico alike.
Jewlery Talavera Pottery Embossed Iron Wood Pewter Textil Souvenirs Pharmacy Coffee Shop Therapeutic Massages Real Estate and much more...
Whether you’re a local, a snowbird or a vacationer, at times we all crave home-style comfort foods from our past. For me, nothing hits the spot like a “belt popping” Canadian (and American) holiday turkey dinner. Lucky for us, the traditions of American and Canadian holiday dinners have recently migrated to Cabo for the winters. So if you’re with us in Cabo for the holiday season, you may be excited to know that many establishments throughout Los Cabos are serving up your festive favorites. Here are some of Cabo’s most popular holiday dinner venues: For the past seven years, Habaneros Gastro Grill and Tequila Bar (page 1) has been serving some of the juiciest Turkey you will ever eat, for both thanksgivings and Christmas. What to expect: Roasted Butternut and Cinnamon soup, creamy garlic mashed sweet potatoes with ginger, apple and fine herb stuffing, turkey breast,
turkey thigh, sage gravy and Gran Marnier Kissed Cranberries. Finish off your feast with Creamy Pumpkin Cheesecake and the perfect complement; an extra aged (Añejo) tequila from a selection of 110 different tequilas. In Cabo San Lucas, Baja Cantina (page 29) and Baja Brewing Company (page 4) also serve outstanding turkey feasts for the holidays. From comforting traditions to tasty new sensations, the culinary delights found in Los Cabos are sure to please everyone. Buen Provecho and Happy Holidays. -TADD CHAPMAN
