This resort, located at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, is ranked 14th in a listing of the 50 most popular golf destinations in the world. Los Cabos won the 2012 Golf Destination of the Year for Latin America by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. Four and a half Jack Nicklaus signature courses are open along this corridor, including the top-rated Cabo del Sol Ocean Course (1)- ranked 100 in 2011 in Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Courses in the World.” The course boasts five oceanfront holes, including the “finest three finishing holes in golf,” according to its designer. Also on the property is the Cabo del Sol Desert Course (11) by Tom Weiskopf. Mazatlan is on the northern tip of the Mexican Riviera. El Cid, the mainstay, is home to a Lee Treviño designed nine hole expansion for a total of 27 holes of playable golf. Puerto Vallarta is home to The Vista Vallarta Golf Club and its two championship courses, one by Tom Weiskopf (7) and ACAPULCO the other by Jack Nicklaus (6). he Cancun/Riviera Maya area attracts around three million visitors each year. For golfers, it offers a couple of vintage courses in and around the main tourism area and a host of new ones along the expanded corridor to the south. With over thirteen world class golf courses, it is now the most played area in Mexico - the number one golf destination in Mexico. It all started with the Pok-Ta-Pok course by Robert Trent Jones II, now called Cancun Golf Club that was part of the original FONATUR development in the 1970’s. Nearby, the Iberostar Cancun Beach & Golf Resort, formerly known as the Hilton, has an interesting layout with several views of Mayan ruins. On the bay side close to down town, you will find the Puerto Cancun (New) with its commanding high rise views of a wonderful Tom Weiskopf Golf Course. Just north of Cancun is Playa Mujeres Golf (16), with a Greg Norman designed course. From Cancun, go south to the Riviera Maya area on a modern highway. The first stop is the Palace Resort’s Riviera Cancun Golf Club (22) and a Jack Nicklaus designed 18 hole complex. Riviera Maya Golf Club (13) at Bahia Principe, located 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen has allocated 27 holes of Robert Trent Jones II championship design. A must play.

MERIDA/CAMPECHE

One of the hidden treasures in the Yucatán Peninsula is the area of Merida and Campeche on the Gulf of Mexico. Jack Nicklaus, has already made his mark in this wonderful part of Mexico with two new projects. Tres Marias (11), set out to be the best residential golf course in the interior of Mexico, has a great start with 27 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature golf, varying from tame to intimidating, host to several LPGA tour events and the Mexican Open. Bosque Monarca (New) has teamed up with Rafael Alarcon and Jay Moorish to build a great new course. Well known local designer, Enrique Valenzuela, has an 18-hole course which is now open called El Club de Golf Hacienda Erandeni (New).

Hearing the words “San Miguel Allende” brings warm thoughts of the beautiful colonial village, narrow cobblestone streets, grand plazas, boutiques, quaint hotels, and now of course, golf. Las Ventanas de San Miguel (New) is a Schmidt-CurleyNick Faldo-designed 18-hole championship golf course within an exclusive resort community.

Nearby, lakeside towns of Chapala and Ajijic are all considered the golf Mecca of Mexico’s inland destinations. They claim to have the largest collection of American expatriates living off-shore. ot all golfers seeking retirement, investment, second homes or condos are looking for golf course communities. After all, not all residents of golf course communities are golfers, but they do like to be near great golf in Mexico. Real Estate marketers seek out golfers as a desirable target group known for their higher net worth, premium spending for airlines, hotels, restaurants and real estate. Golfers tend to travel and love to play golf year round, which is something that Mexico offers. The fact is, today the economic balance in real estate has shifted from a seller’s market to a buyer’s delight, especially in the search for homes in the US. The Mexican real estate market should expect the same. Mexico has over $300 billion worth of build out value in the planning stage or in process of development. All of Latin America is aware of Mexico’s real estate growth as an investment opportunity with plenty of direct flights from Rio, Buenos Aires, Lima and Bogotá. MEXICO REAL ESTATE LOS CABOS Without a doubt, Los Cabos is the leader in the development of world-class golf in Mexico. This burgeoning resort area, located at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, has consistently rated in the top 50 most popular golf destinations in the world. Los Cabos’ climate and setting are perfect, like Palm Springs on the ocean. Los Cabos is composed of a 20-mile stretch of coast including Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. His crowning achievements are British Open Championships in 1986 and 1993. Norman became interested in the game of golf at the age of 15, when he offered to caddy for his mother during her regular mid-week game. Following the round, Norman borrowed her clubs and set out on his own. Just six years after first picking up the game of golf, Norman started his professional career. He would become the first player to surpass more than $10 million in career earnings. Norman’s aggressive style and charisma delighted fans as he was uniquely different than the other golfers of his time. Norman, who drove the ball incredibly high, long and straight is regarded as one of the best drivers of the golf ball.

As time went on, Norman became more involved in building businesses with his now famous shark logo and the Greg Norman brand. He currently has a variety of signature lines, including: golf apparel and accessories, wine , beef and his signature designed golf courses. In Mexico, his impact has been profound. Norman’s design of the El Cameleon at Mayakoba is the toprated course in the Riviera Maya, and site of the only PGA TOUR event in Mexico.
